Thought I would take the plunge and start the June thread! I won't be getting my May BFP as my cycles are sooooooo long. Who's. With me?

OP posts:
KickingUpQuestions · 12/05/2012 10:46

The biggest reason for a delayed AF with no BFP is an anovulatory cycle. Unless you go to A&E and get them to do a blood test. It would pick up hcg so if was an MC they would pick up hcg.

It felt better for me to know it was a blip in ovation rather than a chemical pg or a MC.

I am not torturing myself. AF due tomorrow and had BFN this morning so am giving up on May

wishfulthinking1 · 12/05/2012 14:46

Hi all-
Well, I'm managing to get my hopes up and my negative realistic DF is warning me to be cautious but AF was due today (was expecting an appearance last night) and still no sign (I'm practically holding my breath with nerves everytime I go to the loo!!)

On the downside I don't feel pregnant (I guess I don't know what I'm expecting- bit I don't feel nauseous and boobs arent sore or tingly at all) Though I have had AF type cramps since Tuesday pm but no bleeding- so, the plan is still to stay cool yeah right and pick up a test on Monday after work if AF hasn't shown up- id be cd31 and I average 28 day cycle. I'm going to try my best not to run screaming and waving arms in the air to nearest pharmacy today or tomorrow. If I'm pregnant I'll still be pregnant on Monday and there were a few early bfp's that turned to bfns on the may thread and I could see how sad it was.

Question - in the unlikely event that AF has not shown up on Monday and I get a test should I test Monday (as soon as I get home) or wait till Tuesday for FMU?

X

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/05/2012 15:14

wishful - oh how, exciting! fx for you AF stays away! I think as long as your pee is concentrated (yellow!) it doesn't matter all that much whether it's FMU, esp if AF is well and truly late. So hold in the wee for a few hours, don't drink too much water and then take the test when you get home - and get a two pack to be sure!

I've been looking after DS on my own today cos DH is away so don't think i'll be heading down to a&e for a blood test or anything, unless things get really bad. I did phoned out of hours doc tho and she said that if i had a bfp last week - even a really faint one - then it prob has been a chemical preg and i'm just going to have to wait it out with painkillers, hot water bottle and ideally bed rest for next couple of days. It's my friends birthday tonight tho so i'm a bit Angry at not being able to go but i feel like hitting the town for drinking in crowded bars mightn't be a great idea, don't want to end up a bleeding, fainting mess!! At the minute tho, it's still just spotting and some cramps tho i'm sure sure heavier bleeding will appear in the next 24 hours. Only poss risk is that it could possibly be ectopic but it's fairly unlikely to be that ((fingers crossed))

KickingUpQuestions · 12/05/2012 15:41

Not sure if this will help but my ambulatory cycle in Decembe made AF 10 days late. On xmas eve - 9 days after AF was due, we had a very faint BFP. Christmas day i started to bleed. Sore as anything.

We landed up going to the hospital and they did a blood test and found no trace of hcg in my system. It meant there was definitely no pregnancy.

We were sad but consoled that there wasn't a pg.

My gynae said an anovulatory cycle makes the length of your AF (not actually an AF) longer. So she warned me not to be surprised or concerned when i bled for a few days longer than normal

xx

KickingUpQuestions · 12/05/2012 15:45

Anovulatory in place of ambulatory

stupid phone

redstrawberry · 12/05/2012 16:15

Wishful that's so exciting! Fx crossed for you! Testing on Monday shud be fine as long as you drink less fluids.

Hope you feel better littlemiss. Kicking hoping you have something to smile about at Xmas this year x

Did some winkling this morning not getting too hopeful.
I'm on the tube with 3 pregnant women and trying not to look at the bumps Envy
Is it me or do they just seem to be everywhere whilst we ttc?

KickingUpQuestions · 12/05/2012 16:21

They are everywhere!!! All shapes and sizes and ages and here we are...

I got BFN this morning and am due tomorrow so i reckon i reckon am out. The box said 98% get positives the day before. Sad dot com... :(

wishfulthinking1 · 12/05/2012 19:59

The waiting is so hard!!!

Question: what is a chemical pregnancy? And when does the risk of one end? (is it something to do with testing early? My resolve is weakening- boots in town is open tomorrow- I think if AF hasn't arrived by tomorrow morning then I'll have to go to get a test! AF will then be 2 days late and I'll be cd 30- is it reasonable to just get an ordinary test then? And which one should I get? I've never bought one before- are the expensive ones more reliable?
X

Pinkie29 · 12/05/2012 20:07

Strawberry - defo everywhere when ttc! Walked past a woman in Asda yesterday who looked ready to explode!

Wishful - I think a chemical pregnancy is getting an early positive ie before af or just after but then getting your period, calked chemical because if you hadn't tested you wouldn't have known, I've suspected a few in the past when not ttc but who knows

redstrawberry · 12/05/2012 20:21

Oh no Sad gutted for you kicking!
Maybe it's still early? af not shown up yet?

RightUpMyRue · 12/05/2012 20:51

wishful it's estimated that 75% of pregnancies end before they've made it safely to the uterus and implanted deeply. Usually we would know nothing about it and just assume we were having a normal AF and in a sense we would be because it really isn't rare, it's almost normal. Very sensitive tests, which can tell you 4 or 5 days before your AF is due, can pick up these fertilised eggs making you think you're pregnant.

However, most of them would never make it to the womb to implant and grow into a baby because they have abnormalities or are "wrong" in some way so wouldn't grow normally even if they did reach the uterus and implant. If they did manage to it's likely the body would later abort them soon.

It's heartbreaking and indescribably disappointing and is one of the pitfalls of early testing.

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/05/2012 21:19

wishful - everything Rue said! But at the same time, if it's taking a woman a fairly long time to get pg, knowing that you can 'chemically' get pg can be important cos it shows that you are OV and your OH's swimmers are doing the biz, but that something is going wrong which is stopping the blastocyst from implanting or it implants and doesn't stick. Early testing which shows a bfp picks this up and it can be useful for drs in determining what they can do for you to give future pgs a better chance of 'sticking'.

But, as Rue said, 75% of potential pgs do end up this way so it's not uncommon and the upset is a def pitfall of testing too early - I'm living thru it this month! If I hadn't have taken that stupid test last weekend i would just be bitching that AF was very late rather than feeling a bit down tonight...but of course I'd also be out propping up the bar with a few friends and risking having a massive bleed in a trendy bar with a long queue for the ladies. So on balance, I'm prob glad I know!!

If you do feel like u really need to test early use a First Response Early Response test, they're the most sensitive but they're pricy!

KickingUp - Sorry about your BFN :( Not over til AF arrives, hang in there...

Strawberry - Haven't had that yet, I guess cos i've only started ttc again but kind of half-dreading the first time a friend, cousin, colleague, someone tells me they're pg. I know I'll be happy for them but it is hard when it's something you really want too and u don't have much control over it...

More cramping and spotting has gotten a bit heavier, so I'm going to go ahead and call it AF and call today CD1. Dr told me to be prepared for bleeding to be fairly light at first and then heavier later on tonight or tomorrow if this is an early mc, so I guess i'll just keep an eye on things. Tried to have relaxing bath - DS not sleeping tonight, no idea why, and nothing will do but he sits on the toilet right beside the bath chatting to me in gobbledigook and splashing cups of water on me and throwing all his toys in the bath with me lol

wishfulthinking1 · 12/05/2012 21:29

Haha- doesn't sound like a completely relaxing bath snowshine!

Another question- sorry! When does early testing become just testing? AF was due today so if I test tomorrow will that still be early? What is the recomended wait for testing? X

jaquelinehyde · 12/05/2012 21:34

AF well and truely arrived today Sad

On the plus side I now know that I am ovulating and having periods as normal so onwards and upwards Smile

CD1 it is then.

LittleMissSnowShine · 12/05/2012 21:56

Wishful - The day your AF is due is - to my mind - the day it stops being early to test. First Response tests can show a BFP up to 6 days before your AF is due (tho only for a fairly small percentage of women admittedly) so THAT'S testing early! But the results get more accurate with every day that passes. So if your AF was due today and it hasn't shown, then testing tomorrow is very restrained! many of us would have been poas two days ago

jacqueline - CD1 for me too! We can be cycle buddies...kinda, tho unless your cycles are crazy long like my last two have been i don't think we'll be testing on the same day. Sorry about AF Sad... but new cycle here we come!!!
