Thought I would take the plunge and start the June thread! I won't be getting my May BFP as my cycles are sooooooo long. Who's. With me?

OP posts:
OpenMindedSceptic · 22/05/2012 13:37

kickingup why is everyday dtd not good?

I also don't trust the ov sticks. I will finish this pack and that's it. No more sticks. I hope that in my case the surge is too short so it is not picked up, rather than not ovulating at all- I don't even want to think about the latter.

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 13:40

The swimmers don't have time to recoup properly. Giving them a days break gives them time to regroup, restrengthen and sort themselves out.

Too often means they are weakened and slow
Too little means they are weakened and slow

So apparently 2-3 days is optimal.

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/05/2012 13:57

OpenMinded DTD every 2-3 days is also NHS advice in their handy patient fertility guide I was banging on about after I saw GP on Friday...

Also, something like 1 in 5 women may have PCOS. So even if you've never been diagnosed and you only have one or two symptoms but it's taken you longer than a few months to get pg, this could possibly be you. And if it is, OPKs won't work for you anyway in all likelihood! Just sayin'

Now girls, let's all get SWI and get a nice 1st June BFP on here!! It's sunny at the min, seems like maybe a good fertility booster, all the vitamin D and skin on show?? Wink

(Plus I feel smug since I lost about 4lbs due to tummy bug from hell lol - at least I look skinny!)

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:00

No littlemis

1 in 5 have polycystic ovaries - that means that they have the syndrome but they don't have cysts. They don't have an increase in testosterone, they don't have irregular AF and they don't have issues with falling pregnant.

1 in 10 women may have the syndrome and even then, if you have regular AF and no pain and no male hormone etc etc, then you may not have issues falling pregnant.

This is one of those where everyone has it and it's badly diagnosed with no one actually understanding what it is.

It's like depression - everyone has it when they're a little bit sad.

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:02

Having been diagnosed with PCOS - the syndrome WITHOUT the cysts (which doesn't cause me any harm) and depression - I am ok saying that without causing too much offence :)

OpenMindedSceptic · 22/05/2012 14:09

thanks kicking good to know.

littlemiss please don't scare me with PCOS, for now I'd rather believe my surge is too short!

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:15

I have only ever picked up a smiley face twice in about 10 months. But I get EWCM and the friendly spotting and the bang on regular AF and the short AF so there is no indication whatsoever that I am not OV on time.

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/05/2012 14:16

kicking - just repeating what dr told me, and have to believe that she is pretty much an expert in the area judging by the incredible number of fertility medicine certificates on her wall!

openminded - just don't get worried about the OPKs, that's all i'm saying! some months you might miss the surge, or they might not work for you in general, but shagging all the time is a pretty much tried and tested method for getting upduffed!

Pinkie29 · 22/05/2012 14:24

whenshewasbad

I take my sticks to work aswell haha! Always 'pop to the shop' around the same time everyday Grin

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:26

Hey littlemiss

Totally know what you mean. I posted a link on a thread to an NHS article where they explain the difference between the syndrome and the polycystic ovaries.

My gynae was also a fertility specialist and I've been seeing her since I was 16 years old so I guess I will go with her and you go with your doctor :) No harm in that.

I am just not going to worry about something that I have no control over. The way that the deal with polycystic ovaries is to pop you on progesterone or the pill (if they're not huge - else you need surgery).

I had a couple cysts when she diagnosed me with PCOS for the first time after my fibroids myomectomy and she popped me on the pill and they went away after 3 months. She then said that if they come back, I go back on the pill but until they grow and release more testosterone and random hormones, I have nothing to worry about and they won't stand in the way of my falling pregnant.

I had internal scans every 3 months for 3 years after my fibroids and with the PCOS, every single time (including my last one in January this year when she checked after my anovulatory cycle) she proclaimed my uterus and my ovaries perfectly healthy with no reason to not fall pregnant.

I believe her. She helped me immensely and when I needed proper medical advice, she rung me from my home country when consultants in the UK were giving me advice that had me nearly killed twice...

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:28

Otherwise - littlemiss and I completely agree about the OV and the surge being short and DTD EOD :D

Let's see if we all fall pregnant skipping the sticks and DTD EOD?

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/05/2012 14:30

That's great kicking, hope she helps you out and you manage to get your BFP soon. We have our own pcos / ttc thread over here if anyone is lurking btw!

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/05/2012 14:30

PS) isn't everyone thinking how much easier it would have been to get pg when you had just met your OH and you were jumping on each other all the time, or before you had a job, or if you didn't have friends?? lol

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:31

Yep and you littlemiss :)

I have a good feeling about ditching the science and just humping like rabbits!

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:33

I have no friends!!! We've only just moved back to the UK so we've completely started with no friends.

And the 26th is our six months of being married.

And I think that if we all looked back carefully, there would be reasons why our bodies decided to not grace us with a baby. I am sure we can find a fair few reasons. I try do it that way so I don't get too down on myself...

Pinkie29 · 22/05/2012 14:42

whenshewasbad so in sitting here on the crapper and just got a v dark line and a smiley face!! Only on cd16 it was cd28 last time! Hoping the vitex has worked its magic GrinGrin

Now to make up with dp lol!

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 14:51

What is vitex?

Pinkie29 · 22/05/2012 15:11

Have a read kicking Smile

babyandbump.momtastic.com/trying-to-conceive/4508-agnus-castus-success-story.html

Basically it's supposed to help regulate long cycles (my last two were 43 days) and help you ovulate. I got it off eBay 1000mg tablets and take 2 a day but they sell the exact same in holland and barrett

Pinkie29 · 22/05/2012 15:11

Forgot to add its often called Angus castus

wilderumpus · 22/05/2012 15:18

kicking you said that you should be very fertile because of the nature of your cycle - what are the characteristics of a fertile cycle? hope i have one!

can I say it is too hot? :)

Pinkie29 · 22/05/2012 15:27

Kicking - bit more of a science explanation reliableinfertilityanswers.com/vitex-for-fertility/

I'll be much happier if i can get a normal length cycle, if I'm oving now I should have a period by day 30 whoop!

KickingUpQuestions · 22/05/2012 15:31

Not too hot - it's gorgeous!!

They say that regular cycles (whether 21 - 40 days) is a good thing. My cycles are 28 days long nearly exactly and have been for years.

Also - cycles that last about 7 days is another good sign. It means you've more than likely ovulated.

I had ovulation spotting (noticeable - I guess you only really notice when you look for it?!) for a few months. Apparently, OV spotting is an indicator of fertility.

Basically - when you don't ovulate, your cycles are longer. They are not regular and they are heavy and painful. So an indication of ovulation is regularity, less pain, less heavy and not the ones that go on and on. My gynae said an ovulatory cycle (one where you don't ovulate) means AF will be longer than your own personal "normal" cycle.

You know - my SIL has had scans every few months because they found cancerous cells in her uterus a couple years ago. She's had the D&C done every 6 months to ensure those cancerous cells don't come back. My brother had mumps in his testes as a child and his testicles didn't drop properly so he had surgery when he was about 5 or 6. These (one would have though) together would have made it fairly difficult for them to conceive.

It took them two months. I believe our bodies will do anything to fall pregnant. And if something in there doesn't think we need a baby - maybe we need to adopt or whatever - it will do it when the time is right. We need to trust more in nature and stop trying to influence our bodies.

We have no influence. We have no control. We have no say.

We need to....reellllaaaaaaxxx :D
Remind me on 14 June :D

RIBS · 22/05/2012 15:58

I agree with everything you've all said. Your body is designed to do this. Unless theres something seriously wrong. I think its just waiting for the perfect baby for you. I think its taking me so long is that the MMC treatment I had left me in such a state my innerds were pulled at so badly trying to remove the "tissue" and I lost loads of blood -it was barbaric and painful. I think my body has needed the time to get its self back to "normal" so I could conceive.

Iv also ditched the BBT thermometer and the ov sticks. HURRAH!! EOD for us. CD7 today - so here we go. I also think ive maybe stopped DTD too early, around 2 days after +opk. So I think we'l keep going til BFP this month.

I do think they have helped me understand how my body is working tho, but I feel confident enough that the clomid's working so i will ovulate and have a chance of catching the golden egg!!

winkle2 · 22/05/2012 16:16

It's nice to see we're all so positive today!

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/05/2012 18:08

Let the sun shine, let the sun shine, the sun shiiiiine Wink

DS has to work late tonight but hopefullu we'll still manage to dtd, not doing great this month after my 3 day puke-A-palooza but tis early days and going to get on the case!!
