Thought I would take the plunge and start the June thread! I won't be getting my May BFP as my cycles are sooooooo long. Who's. With me?

OP posts:
LittleMissSnowShine · 19/05/2012 16:45

lol @ winkle - i've been nagging DS about having a few beers at the weekend, and he doesn't drink at all during the week. i always knew it would happen one day...i've become a nagging wife!!

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 17:03

I thought temp charting was the only way to know that you'd ovulated?

LittleMissSnowShine · 19/05/2012 17:39

In my Zita West book she's quite anti-temp charting because temp can be affected by so many diff factors, alcohol, having a cold, using an electric blanket, broken sleep etc. so she doesn't think it's v reliable and since women tend to really make sure to dtd when they're OV and not as much before or after, if your temp indicates you're OV and your temp is unreliable then you could be dtd at completely the wrong time. Zita W uses an example of a healthy woman with cycles that were regular and of a fairly normal length who was actually OV on CD6 every time and they only discovered this thru observing her CM...

So i know that using temp alone is prob not too reliable but i thought temping in conjunction with using opks or observing CM or something would have been good. But apparently NHS guidelines think not. Something to bear in mind if anyone else is thinking of paying a visit to their GP!

RIBS · 19/05/2012 18:02

I would've thought so 2. Particularly as a positive opk shows the surge, not actually the ovulation. U could have a surge but not release the egg. Temping shows uv actually released the egg.
It does have 2 many variables tho, getting up with dd at 5am screws with it, and a hundred things more, so does sleeping in, chance'd b a fine thing.

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 18:16

Gosh it's a wonder that anyone gets pregnant isn't it?!

Currently doing the winkle Grin

dreamydays · 19/05/2012 18:18

littlemiss - sorry you're feeling rough - low alcohol "to avoid harming a developing baby" - anything on whether alcohol actually affects fertility? In other words is it only during the 2WW (or even post implantation) that alcohol is really an issue, or is it also when ttc? They can advise on levels for fertility for men, so why not for women?

I'm not a very big drinker but have glass in hand right now so it would be useful to know whether I'm supposed to be counting them!

KickingUpQuestions · 19/05/2012 18:23

temping does show the increase of temp but by then its already too late!

also the lh surge may only last 3-4 hours so that's out

i think the best thing is shag eod isn't

dh is keen:D

KickingUpQuestions · 19/05/2012 18:40

It doesnt apparently effect the baby for the first 6weeks and it doesn't effect your fertility.

they say abstinence because of what heavy drinking does while pregnant.

a glass or two wont hurt

LittleMissSnowShine · 19/05/2012 19:07

dreamy - yes first 5 weeks or so you don't share a circulation system with the baby so what you ingest doesn't go straight into them. So basically having a couple of drinks while ttc / 2 WW isn't harmful in and of itself. I think women are advised to cut out or cut back on drinking for other fertility issues, such as weight since alcohol piles on the lbs and if your BMI is high u might find it more difficult to get pg. Also if you have PCOS alcohol isn't great for your insulin levels and since they are already out of whack it's best to avoid making them any worse...

yay winkle, afternoon winkling, can't remember last time we managed to fit in an afternoon one, go you!!

still feeling wretched here, freezing cold (tho the heating is working again and is on high), sore head, throwing up etc. if I didn't know this was only CD7 and DS hadn't just been ill last few days i'd swear i was pg, felt just like this from around week 6 - week 13... a preview of what i can look forward to Wink

FloweryBoots · 19/05/2012 20:51

Very envious of all of you doign day time nookie! Day time sex always the best in my opinion (especially since mine nad hubs body clocks are far from coordinated, so middle of the day we actually both feel awake). Barely ever do it these days though. In fact thought we could give it a try today during DS nap, but Dh wasn't up for it and sent me off to bed for a nap instead so I was'perky' later! Have to wait for the football to finish. We've got an enormus pizza on the way so might feel a bit too stuffed for dtd, oh well, I'm sure we'll manage Grin.

Interesting about the alcohol thing for women. Just read that bit about not sharing a circulation system for the first 5 weeeks to DH as he is ademant I should now not drink at all since we're into second half of the cycle and he a) wan't accept I can still have a small glass of wine b) tried to claim mother and baby don't share a circulation system at any point in pregnancy. Err, what does he think placenta and umbilical cord are for?! Hmm And we've had one baby already. Clearly he needs further educating, and he was all about reading books on it all alst time.

hellokittydrivesmenuts · 19/05/2012 20:55

hey girls just thought i would pop by for a hello. I am officially on june thread the dreaded Af arrived today so am going to feel sorry and eat choc and start a fresh tomorrow!!!! Hows everyonr going? sticking with the good baby making plans? intresting read regards temping i was going to start with that this month as usually use my cheap ovulation sticks, now unsure as to what to do? anyway loads of baby dust sprinkles for all xx

tedmundo · 19/05/2012 21:16

Hi kitty, sorry the bitch witch to you. Come join us for some bright pink June bfps.

Stressing about the ovs on cd6 .. I have loooong AF. No way up for shagging til about day 8 or 9. I get nice dark opks so surge is happening then surely..? And 2 days later get ov pain.

Utterly fed up with not being pregnant. I feel something missing all the time. Like a part of me has got lost. I really wanted to be able to be past the dreaded 12 weeks before the due date for the baby I lost. This is the only month now that this can happen.

Bloody football...

FloweryBoots · 19/05/2012 21:32

Hey Ted. Sorry you're feeling down. I've not been there, so can't imagine how you feel, but sending hugs your way.

Surely there is no way you could OV before AF finished? Or really are our boodies so loopy we could be doing that? I hadn' realised my AFs might be considered long but I would count them as about 6 days, but wouldn't err 'risk' dtd before day 8 or 9 probably as it still a bit, hmm, well, gunky Blush.

I've jsut done a brief bit of googling about alcohol while TTC and everything I could find said even in pretty small amounts in can affect fertility. LittleMiss, where did you find that info? (And hope you adn your dc are feeling better!)

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 19/05/2012 21:43

Hi Ted sorry you are not feeling too good right now.

Have been reading all the posts re drinking and ttc and am worried now. Went out with dh (just got back and he is catching up on football) and I have had quite a few cocktails. Really not a great idea at moment.

PS dd is at grandparents so being well looked after.

tedmundo · 19/05/2012 21:58

Oh god I am sorry to be such a misery. just read a few funny threads in classics to cheer myself up. I hurt my sides on the Easter Bonnet one.

right, given myself a big slap and will look to future only from now on. including DTD as soon as the penalties are over! Didnt manage any nookie this afternoon (well done winkle on that score) but will chalk up another Sesh later.

drinking and TTc is an odd one. I am not a big drinker but am a consistent drinker. About 4 or 5 nights a week I will have a glass. but this month have cut right back. I don't really expect it to make much difference but does make me feel a bit more in control....

toobreathless · 19/05/2012 22:05

Hello Ladies!

Popping back in, can't quite believe this thread has almost 500 posts & it's only mid May.

All this talk of weird ovulation days has really lifted my spirits. DH is away Monday to Friday so we have little choice about when to DTD.

CD 22 here. Anyone else on the 2ww?

FloweryBoots · 19/05/2012 22:08

CD 19 here, so just about. (Although intending to get in another few sesions just in case!)

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 22:11

Hubs is on his 9th can of Fosters!

He's celebrating west ham being promoted. Any excuse!

toobreathless · 19/05/2012 22:20

Excellent floweryboots it's nice to have a buddy! Also trying to get extra sessions in here. The earlier posts about ovulations days have inspired me!

Pinkie29 · 20/05/2012 08:07

littlemiss that's very odd about nhs saying not using bbt to see if you ov?? Literally it's the first thing that comes up
On google Confused

hellokittydrivesmenuts · 20/05/2012 08:48

Hope your feeling better today Ted.
LOL winkle i know that one we celebrate having beer so its tough to break that cycle - ' ooooo beer in fridge- rude not to i guess?'
x

tedmundo · 20/05/2012 10:46

mornign all, yes thanks kitty loads better today. Just on a downer for awful, selfish reasons and feel ashamed of myself. best friend (pregnant) so happy for her, I truly am, but at a birthday party yesterday I found it all a bit much. ho hum. over it now. If this takes a few months I am going to have to toughen up.

@ floweryboots and too breathless .. Not too long now. At least some of the 2 ww is over. Count down begins.

Having lots of cm, no more has been pink tinged since yesterday though. I am guessing ov should happen on Tuesday by my usual cycle. Night off tonight and a sesh on Monday and possibly Tuesday as well.

If we throw enough darts at the dart board, surely one should hit the bullseye??

@icequeen .. On May thread you mention a bit of blood today.. Implantation??!!

hellokittydrivesmenuts · 20/05/2012 12:03

Ted- def not selfish it is the hardest thing wanting something so badly and every month being a rollercoaster ride and made even worse when you have loved and lost :-( so do not feel guilty, its normal to think why me! I always think well they could of told me a bit better than they did every time i hear about another pregnancy lol its human you are geniunely happy for anyone its such lovely news but equally its HARD very very very HARD.
xxxx

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 20/05/2012 12:14

Ted don't feel bad you are not selfish at all.

Am also having a night off dtd, dh and I had far too many cocktails last night and I have a bit of a hangover. Thank goodness the opk said no surge yet. Think o day should be tomorrow as cm is starting to go ew (sorry if tmi).

wilderumpus · 20/05/2012 13:40

ted you aren't selfish at all chuck. If it helps i feel the same. I am not jealous or anything like that, but their happiness is so evident and 'out there' (as in, a bump) it makes me remember what I lost and the grief is intense and heartbreaking at times.

too and flowery am on the 2ww too (i think). Should be about 6dpo. BUT am in the post-mc WTF month so who knows as I started the opks later than I would normally due to still getting post-mc BFPs (which I still have :() Might still be up to ov but had all the usual signs and pink tinged EWCM last weekend so am going with that as when I ov'ed for now.

This waiting is so very HARD. Want to get to 8dpo so i can start legitimately symptom spotting :).

lowered caffiene intake and did get boozy on friday but won't till I know am not pg now :)

Do you guys generally act like you're pg when on the 2ww?
