How unlikely is unlikely...

Blush too embarrassed to ask anyone in real life so thought I'd ask mumsnet...

Ok, well period normally as regular as clockwork.... Was due on thursday, no sign as yet. If I am pregnant it would be a 'ahem' splash pregnancy... As we have done stuff in the vicinity but not full penetration(this month)... (not ttc... Was waiting until the autumn for that, but not using contraception on this occasion either)...

So while I know it's technically possible... It's very very unlikely...right??

Flightty · 29/04/2012 14:39

Well, depends what you mean by 'in the vicinity' Grin

Can you be more specific as to how close the spermies got to your entrance?

Sarcalogos · 29/04/2012 14:44

Oh bleugh wish I hadn't started this now...

It is possible that a little sperm got up there on a finger....

LimeLeafLizard · 29/04/2012 15:00

Well it is possible, particularly if it was the right time of the month. Do you have any sticks to pee on? if not please rush to buy one and then post back here so nosy people such as myself can find out

Sarcalogos · 29/04/2012 15:03

No sticks to pee on... Also said 'fun times' took place about a week befor period was due.... So think its probably to early to test....

Don't know what to think right now.... I'm sure its my over active imagination...

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 29/04/2012 15:26

It is possible, but the odds are incredibly low I'm sure I read once it's about a million to one?! Even when you dtd at the right time there's about a 25% chance and a week before your period is due is quite late. Definitely POAS so you know for sure but I wonder if it's more likely you ovulated late - have you been stressed or ill?- or maybe you've had an annovulatory cycle. Most women have one or two in a year where you just don't release an egg. When I've had them, my period is a couple of days late. Hth put your mind a ease a bit!

Pipbin · 29/04/2012 15:28

Not wishing scare you but I have a friend who got pregnant that way.

pickles35 · 29/04/2012 22:43

I know someone who did as well!

eurochick · 29/04/2012 23:17

Me three. With their accidental third. Her hubby has had the snip now!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 30/04/2012 08:30

Based on the ^above evidence, it's clearly possible -and the timing of the 'fun times' I'd suggest you POAS 14 days from the fun times to get an accurate result.

Sarcalogos · 30/04/2012 09:05

Oh Help! Still no AF, convinced myself it must be all in my head last night, not so confident now. Guess I will POAS at the end of the week if still nothing...

OP posts:
LimeLeafLizard · 30/04/2012 09:26

Oh go on, POAS today! Hope you are OK... will the timing work out well for you if you are pg?

Sarcalogos · 30/04/2012 09:41

Timing is dreadful... Meant to be hiking in the alps in August, also have a meeting today about whether or not ive got a promotion (interview last week), if I haven't, less disappointing I guess, but if I have... I feel guilty already.

OP posts:
LimeLeafLizard · 30/04/2012 11:55

oh dear. Could you still go to the Alps and keep the hikes a bit shorter if you are tired? Or are you planning a big expedition? To me, a hike lasts about 3 hours, but SIL would class this as a stroll. For her a hike involves climbing equipment, skis or a kayak!

Don't feel guilty at work, it isn't like you planned it, and they should give you the promotion regardless, if you are the best person for the job. How long have you been with your employer?

Anyway don't worry just yet, AF could arrive. Not that I am helping, asking you all these questions, sorry! (just want someone to be pg even if it isn't me)

Sarcalogos · 30/04/2012 12:44

Hiking thing is all organised am supposed to be in charge of teens- I'll be a bloody liability if I'm pregant I think. But then to be honest I have no idea what it feels like to be pregnant/how tired I'd be/what I can realistically expect to do...

Been in this job about 9 months, had confirmation of some extra responsibility just now and got a meeting later on about the other (more money!) promotion, I'm trying not to feel guilty, but I'd be pissed off if I was my employer. Not planning on doing anything silly like telling them today, because the chances are still pretty remote.

Still no AF but am going to the loo endlessly to check (good job I'm pretty much unsupervised in my role, the amount of MN and loo breaks I'm taking today).

(thanks for replying to my mad ramblings am still a bit panicked!)

OP posts:
LimeLeafLizard · 30/04/2012 18:51

Well, don't worry too much about hiking or job just yet, after all AF will probably show soon and you'll feel a great surge of relief and perhaps a tiny bit sad, too.

I wouldn't tell your employer until after you've had a 12 week scan... there is loads of time to make that decision if you need to.

No worries I always follow 'threads I'm on'.

Sarcalogos · 30/04/2012 20:33

Didn't get the job. Have been sobbing all evening. Am I a saddo or is it hormones.

Bloody hell I better be a saddo, I'd never cope with a baby at this rate.

(still no AF)

OP posts:
HaveALittleFaithBaby · 30/04/2012 21:20

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job :( Don't beat yourself up. Sounds like your nerves are in tatters and your hormones are all over the place!

Becksharp · 01/05/2012 17:05

I conceived DS2 this way...it definitely can happen!

LimeLeafLizard · 01/05/2012 17:07

Sorry to hear about the job... it is normal to be disappointed so don't beat yourself up about it. Can you ask for some feedback as to what you could do developmentally so as to be more likely to get a promotion next time? I used to work in HR, and although we didn't give detailed feedback as standard, I'd always have taken the time to talk things through if someone asked.

Meanwhile, why don't you POAS and then at least you'll know either way and can either stop worrying or start adjusting. Sometimes not knowing is the worst, iyswim?

Take care x

Sarcalogos · 01/05/2012 17:35

Thanks for the sympathy ladies. I did get some feedback (most of it nonsensical, but boils down to me having strong (good) ideas about some things and not being forceful enough about others), boss has offered to do some 'career planning' type chatting with me to improve things in the next few weeks, so I guess they can't be fairer than that (even if they did give the promotion to someone who's been 'acting' in the role badly, total liability for the last year).

Still no AF, getting marginally excited as well as terrified now. DH has started to believe its also a possibility, and is rabbit in headlights terrified supportive.

Am trying to wait til Saturday to POAS as I think I'd rather get a definite answer than a negative but be worrying about it being too soon to test.

OP posts:
LimeLeafLizard · 01/05/2012 21:21

Glad you got some feedback, sounds like they are trying to be fair to you (even whilst making Hmm hiring decisions).

Well you're more patient than I am with the whole testing thing. I go through dozens of the things at least one a month.

Sarcalogos · 01/05/2012 21:45

I'm seriously tempted! But I haven't got any and I'm working tonight till 11pm and then all day tomorrow, and don't got anywhere near a shop on my normal working days so practicalities are helping me restrain myself!

(still no AF starting to think even if I'm not pregnant I should see a doctor, being this late is just odd for me, when would most people get worried?)

OP posts:
pickles35 · 01/05/2012 22:11

How late are you? I have been really late the odd time and even convinced myself I was preggers one month, good used to the idea and then was almost quite gutted when it turned up.

Sorry about the job. I think weve all been there. Last time I didnt get a job I howled all night.

Sarcalogos · 01/05/2012 22:49

Phew, glad it's not just me howling all night then Grin

OP posts:
Sarcalogos · 02/05/2012 14:59

Hmmm so still no AF, been nauseous all day (but that could be fear/all in my head), also things taste funny (same).

Rechecked my dates as was panicking it all really was in my head.... Turns out I had done them wrong ...but I was actually due last Wednesday not last Thursday, so am now officially a week late.
