Interested in hearing what others do. My partner and I used to do it every day during fertile window. This cycle I'm thinking of trying EOD as I've heard you can have too much sex.

Thanks!

Oh dear, I don't know. We don't get the chance to do it every day anyway and I'm worried we'll get the wrong days!

I heard the same as you though, that you need to build up some reserves as it were, not sure if it's true or a load of nonsense Smile

KnitterNotTwitter · 23/03/2012 09:34

I've posted this before but we aim for 3x per day when TTC...

Basically we aim for 3x per day from the end of my period until the window of fertility has definitely closed. This takes into account unexpectedly early ovulation and means we're not caught out if that makes sense.

3x per day also requires you to think imaginatively about sex... squeezing in the third is the challenge - we found that morning, straight after putting DS to bed and then our bed times were the best - spaces them out through the day - again increasing the chances of success!

I think that the too much sex worry is where the man has low sperm count - if he's not making much in the first place then 'diluting' it by lots of sex is a bad thing.

I've always taken the view that sperm for my DH at least is produced on a demand basis - more sex leads to more sperm being produced. So to ensure that I'm awash with the buggers it's lots of sex for us :-)

chipsandmushypeas · 23/03/2012 09:47

Couldn't do 3x a day as we both work long hours and DP is very tired after work so once a day was hard enough. On the weekends we did it twice a day.

The supply and demand idea sounds right.

Oh My Good Lord, three times a day?

DP would also faint if he read that Grin

But good for you, if you can!

Chips, shall we retire for a well earned sherry and leave her to it Grin I'm not sure I could cope with a baby on top of all that lovin'

Flightty · 23/03/2012 09:53

No offence Knitter Grin

I'm in total awe.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 09:56

It's a long time ago now but EOD worked for us, Twice. Smile

Happilymarried155 · 23/03/2012 10:13

From what I have read having swi every other day is enough, if you are doing this from after AF until you have ovulated then you won't miss your fertile window. If you know when you ovulate then a couple of extra days around that time wouldnt do any harm!!
3x per day would not be possible for us either-if that's what you have to do il never get pregnant!!!! :(

chipsandmushypeas · 23/03/2012 10:19

My DP would faint too, he doesn't have a high sex drive, he's a couple times a week kinda guy. He can step it up around ov as he's desperate for a baby.

sparkling that's great!

happily yes, I was thinking of every other day starting from day 10 - 18. Don't worry, I know plenty of women who got pregnant from doing it once in the whole cycle.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 10:22

This was 13 years ago now but I had read some article that some women may ovulate more than once a cycle, so the EOD carried on from end of one AF to start of the next, just to be sure. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 10:24

Now I have confused myself re AF. Anyway DS1 took 2 months and DS2 first month of trying. I appreciate i was lucky but thought I would share if it helps. Smile

KatAndKit · 23/03/2012 10:47

Every other day between days 10-18 is fine. Men can only produce so much of the stuff no matter how much demand there is. In general, if you are having sex three times a week throughout the month you have the best possible chances. If you have more, all well and good, but above 3-4 times a week isn't going to improve your chance of conception although you might have a lot of fun!!

KnitterNotTwitter · 23/03/2012 10:50

I know that we're unusual - don't worry :) I think DH likes the challenge :)

KatAndKit · 23/03/2012 10:52

Is he missing it now you're diffed or glad of a rest?

chipsandmushypeas · 23/03/2012 10:55

Yes it was helpful sparkling thank you! It's taking us a but longer as I was on the depo.

katandkit thanks for replying. I was thinking once opk turns positive to rev it up a bit too

I just worry we'll miss the egg if we don't do it everyday, but then it becomes a chore and not very sexy, which then puts pressure on DP.

I just want to have nice fun sex but get the egg too, is that so much to ask?!

How long did it take you to fall knitter

ChairOfTheBored · 23/03/2012 10:59

Three times a day?! Good Lord! I admire your (and DH's stamina!)

I think our attempts at every other day have startled DH, three times a day and one or other of us might do ourselves a mischief...

chipsandmushypeas · 23/03/2012 11:01

I reckon my DP would cry if I said we have to do it three times a day Grin

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 23/03/2012 11:05

I would have galloping cystitis!

RightUpMyRue · 23/03/2012 11:05

Stopping at CD18 is no good if you don't OV till day CD20 or later. If you want to time the SWI it's important to know when is the right time for you not what is the average day of OV for other women because we're not all average and the actual day of OV can vary from cycle. It's also important not to only go by what a cycle tracking website or app says as they only work on the average dates from previous cycles and, obviously, can't see what's happening inside your body so you could be timing it all wrong. Your CM and tempature is the most accurate way of knowing when you are OVing.

TCOYF says, if there are no issues with low sperm count, to SWI every day you see EWCM or if not EW then at least wet or lubricative CM. Every other day throughout the rest of your cycle.

KatAndKit · 23/03/2012 11:08

Every day is so much pressure to put yourself under though. I like sex as much as the next person but if i felt I had to do it every day it would quickly become quite joyless (not to mention Ariels point about the cystitis!)

It is true what you say though about stopping at cd18 only being average. But why stop at all just because you think the fertile window is closed? Just get in the habit of having sex 3 times a week. If you do it when you are probably not fertile, it does actually make it easier to get enough in during the fertile window.

RightUpMyRue · 23/03/2012 11:23

It does become a bit of a chore during that week-10 days of doing it everyday but when you've been relaxed about it and tried to enjoy it all and not timed things and you're still not PG after a year, for me, it's time to get more focused and determined!

Every other day or a minimum of 3 times a week is a good, relaxed way to go but very few of us, after month after unsuccesful month can stay relaxed and not look into it a bit more.

FriendofDorothy · 23/03/2012 11:31

Three times a day? Fuck me! I would be knackered and my hips would probably be out of joint!

ElephantsAreMadeOfElements · 23/03/2012 11:36

I only ever got pregnant on cycles when DH was away so we only had sex once, close to ovulation (which does make me wonder whether we had slight male factor issues). All the cycles of EOD, nothing.

Flightty · 23/03/2012 11:55

Hmm. Getting a bit more hopeful now, DP has been away since the beginning of the week and I'm supposed to ov this weekend. so you never know.

Squirrel77 · 23/03/2012 13:04

Three times per day! Wow!

We have been doing it every second day or every day during the fertile time. Last cycle we did it every second day from about a week before ovulation, then every day O-2, O-1 and O itself. Still recovering Grin

I should add that I am charting and temping and mucus-hunting so we can pinpoint it properly - I don't ovulate until day 23-25 so doing it around day 14 would not be of any assistance! I personally think charting is invaluable, especially if you don't have textbook 28 day cycles.
