Going into month 6 of trying for a 2nd child. I fell pregnant with DS after just 3 months, so I am finding it all a little disheartening. I was wondering how long it took others to concieve again in relation to previous pregnancies.

2nd pregnancy was'nt planned...........ended up with twins

heavenis · 02/02/2006 16:32

Ds1 4 months
Ds2 1st month

KeepingMum · 02/02/2006 16:33

First month with ds
6 months with dd (frustrating as thought it would happen as quick as first time - though had only just got periods back from bf'ing so might not have been o'ing)
First month this time - bit of a shock for dh as I had managed to persuade him that it would take as long as for dd and he was hoping for a shagfest!

katierocket · 02/02/2006 16:34

we've been trying nearly two years for no 2, I fell pregnant with DS first go and there is nothing technically wrong with either me or DP - very depressing.

Moomin · 02/02/2006 16:37

3 months with dd1; two years for dd2 (she was a binary cell division exactly one year ago!)

[hi katierocket. am still keeping fingers & toes crossed for you. x]

chickenwings · 02/02/2006 16:37

8 months for first, as soon as I came off the pill for second.

Good luck.

jenkel · 02/02/2006 16:50

2nd not planned, 1st was through IVF

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/02/2006 16:51

ist attempt - off pill 25th Dec, pg by 17th jan!

1st took 4 motnhs!

Blossomhill · 02/02/2006 16:55

Both of my children were "surprises"

Ds I got pg after about 6 months (wasn't trying at all but wasn't being careful either)

Dd literally it was after having unprotected sex once . ds was 10 months when we found out.

Calista · 02/02/2006 17:19

Straightaway with both of my boys. Like VVVQV I had v clear signs of ovulation. That was until I went on Depo for 18 months... last injection last May and virtually no bleeding since. We are ready to try for no.3 but my body has other ideas it seems! Grrr.

katierocket · 02/02/2006 17:28

thanks moomin, that's really kind of you.

Steppy1 · 02/02/2006 17:50

..one delightful attempt after the Queens Golden Jubilee celebrations- (and no we didn;t call our DD "Lizzie"

LIZS · 02/02/2006 17:51

ds 1st attempt, dd took 4 months

Good luck pinkmagic1

jane313 · 02/02/2006 18:20

first time lucky for 1st child. 7 months then a miscarriage for second. Looking into secondary infertility problems now.

mszebra · 02/02/2006 18:33

Baby1: 5 months of being careless.
Baby2: One-off lapse in birth control.
Baby3: Took a whole 2 months (when I was well past that mystical age 35 mark myself, too).
Have to say... most people I know have conceived quicker after first baby.
But you know how it is, no guarantees in this business.

dd took 7 months

ds took 2 months!

jane313 · 02/02/2006 18:50

pinkmagic1,if you are over 35 after 6 months the dr will do some blood tests and maybe refer you to a consultant. Otherwise its a year.

be careful with ov kits/persona etc as these only measure whether you get the hormone surge that indicate you are ovulating. It does not always mean an egg is actually released. I had +ves on ov kits but blood tests showed I wasn't ovualting.

Twiglett · 02/02/2006 19:15

2 months for first

2 years for second .. secondary infertility .. needed clomid

do NOT let a GP tell you well you already have a child OR you are too old for treatment on NHS .. it is bollocks .. they can do all the tests and refer you .. but you may have to pay for any treatment

if I had accepted GP's opinion (expressed twice) then I would not have had DD .. and I had two appointments at assisted conception unit with consultant plus one round of clomid (cost about 60p) .. so for the sake of a couple of blood tests don't accept it

hornbag · 02/02/2006 19:39

2 months for 1st
6 months for 2nd

Lonelymum · 02/02/2006 19:45

Ds1 maybe conceived first time, maximum was 3 months (I am not sure we got the timing right the first 2 months).

Ds2 conceived first time, one act of intercourse (the only one for months on either side so I know exactly when it happened!)

After that it went downhill a bit:

Dd took 2-3 months I believe and ds3 took over a year on and off (ie not trying every single month, but most months).

Mercy · 02/02/2006 19:53

dd - about 4 months of not really trying, ie, not planning around fertile times etc

2nd pregnancy - 1 month (early miscarriage)

ds - 1 month again

And I was almost 37 when I conceived dd, so you just can't tell how, when or where.

Latz · 02/02/2006 19:53

3 years for dd
still trying for No 2 - after just over a year
starting to think I've missed the boat
37 and my cycle and periods have gone to pot - my age apparently

ionaming · 02/02/2006 20:48

1 month for first....15 months (so far) for number 2, but still not pregnant
