A friendly, supportive thread for those of us who are taking a bloody long little longer time than average to conceive.

OP posts:
mrsden · 12/04/2012 09:30

Wow, kitty congratulations! I really have made a bus thread. How are you feeling today? Has it sunk in yet?

philbee they might want to repeat the test because it's normal to have a month every now and again with no ovulation. But if you're not ovulating that's good news in some ways if that's the only problem because the gynae told me that ovulation problems are the easiest to fix. I think they usually check if there's a reason for not ovulating (pcos, thyroid, weight etc) and then might try something like clomid.

pout maybe the purple doesn't look so bad now you've got used to it? I agree accesorizing is the way to go.

lady those dreams sound very positive. I also had a dream about being with a toddler last night, it must be a sign!

lisa well done on getting the bloods done. I hate having mine done, they always struggle to find a vein.

beryl you're right about it making us stronger. I do think we'll be much better equipped to deal with a baby knowing that we have waited so longer.

wine I hear you on the exhausted front. I cried myself to sleep the other night, for no particular reason other than I'm not pregnant. Poor DH probably thinks I'm losing it but it feels good to have a good cry and let it all out.

I'm not really a superstitious person but I really wanted a 2012 baby rather than 2013. Crazy I know. At this rate I'll be lucky to get a 2014 one so I shouldn't worry. My Chinese friend tells me that all her married friends have been desperate to have a baby in the year of the dragon. But I'm sure snakes are lovely too!

Morning all! Thanks for the wishes. Have a busy day planned so that should help with the mentalling.
philbee Sorry for arrival of AF Sad I was just wondering if you've been temping? Sorry if you've said this recently, I'm on my phone which means I can't post and look back through. My first test was done on day 23 because day 21 was on a saturday. It still came back low because I only ovulated on day 21 that month and he said it was probably 'in the early rise'. The next time they asked for the test to be done 7 days after I knew I'd ovulated. Which was actually about day 28. That one showed that I had ovulated. I'm still not convinced my prog is great after that point but I do think the timing is crucial. I'd ask for a retest if you can.
wine sorry you're feeling glum. It is one hell of a roller coaster and the frustration of this situation must be so unbearable. Wish this next apt would hurry up and get here! Xx
ladygee your toddler dream sounds comforting to me albeit disappointing in the morning. I think you're right to take it as a good sign that mentally you are subconsciously fighting this battle with positivity. It will come true I'm sure of it.
joy crappiness having to use holiday for treatment. I have set holidays so that fills me with panic. As Lisa said, could you take off sick?
gin GOOD LUCK with the transfer. Hope there's no bleeding today xxx
Have a good day everyone xx

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/04/2012 11:25

Morning ladies. You lot have been chatting so much! I had a very busy day at work yesterday then out secret hobbying so no time to post, though I did try to read a bit!

gin best of luck for today, hope it all does well. Massive Easter Egg vibes for you :)

Sorry about the poor result frannie but it was quite early I suppose? Happy birthday Thanks. I wouldn't worry about the age you have just turned. I didn't even start TTC till a year after that - although I guess that might not be so comforting to you, come to think of it!

ladygee I think your dream is a good sign! I don't let those kind of "visions" in very often, but when I do it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, which confirms how much I want this. But it's always tinged with just a little bit of panic or sadness, in case it never happens. I try to fight that feeling, and hang on to the warm glow instead. What's the expression? Dream like you are going to live forever, and live like you are going to die tomorrow. Keep dreaming - they'll come true for us all :)

philbee sorry that AF got you. It never gets easier. Agree with frannie that are you sure you were tested 7 days post OV? Mine was due to be done on a Friday based on normal cycle lengths. I figured out that I ovulated later that month, so changed it to the Monday which was exactly 7DPO and got a very good 55 result. Dr congratulated me on timing it so well . I'm also of the impression that there are things that can be done for poor/no ovulation, so don't lose heart, but I too get very cross when they read things out over the phone with no explanation. I'm still no closer to actually seeing my results Angry.

mrsden I guess I hadn't given too much thought to what year the eventual baby would be born in. At this stage, I really don't care what the birth date is, so long as there is one! Well, I'd rather it said 12 or 13, than 14 or 15 or 16 Hmm

Hello to wine kitty joycep artemis beryl pout nellie lemon lisa and everyone else I've missed :)

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/04/2012 11:29

Oh I forgot to say that technically AF is late. According to average cycle it is due today, however I think I may have OV'd a day later this month, so really not due until tomorrow. No spotting so far, which is unusual for me, but it has happened once or twice before and I definitely did NOT get my hopes up and start POAS only to have them dashed again so I am not optimistic.

Anyway I was having much fun with Secret Hobby last night and a baby would so not be convenient right now Wink.

eurochick · 12/04/2012 11:29

I'm sorry to hear about the painting problems. I once bought a colour called mochaccino that was lilac when put on the walls. Whoever heard of lilac coffee? Stupid Dulux. Anyway, I had bought that because I really didn't want magnolia. I ended up having to run out and panic buy...magnolia. Because my parents decorating team were ready and waiting and I didn't have time to think about it. It was dull but at least I didn't end up with a lilac living room.

We have decided to switch clinics to the private one for our IUI. We would have to go there next cycle anyway as the NHS one is moving, so we might as well switch. I spoke to them this morning and they were so lovely about timing. They also include a pre-ov scan in the price, which should give us more than 24 hrs' notice of ovulation (which is probably all I would get with the ov sticks). So all in all, I feel like it gives us a better chance of hitting the right time.

Artenmis interesting. That is Mr euro's favourite (not mine at all though). So we end up using it a lot for ttc cos after all he needs to come and I don't. I can't say it has given us any success though!

Philbee if you are not ovulating, Clomid is usually the first port of call on the NHS I think. I second what frannie said though - was the test done at the right point in the cyle (should be about 7 days after ov or 7 days before your period started if you are not sure when you ov).

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/04/2012 11:35

Cross-post euro - that sounds positive about the clinic change, you sound more comfortable in some way? Fingers crossed it works out for you.

I have traded up in paint these days, and did our dining room in Farrow and Ball. It is absolutely lovely, the colour has such a depth to it

lisacn · 12/04/2012 13:18

just a quickie from me, at work in an open office Grin

franniehappy birthday for today, remember its just a number :)

gin good luck for today x

hello to everyone else

mrsden · 12/04/2012 13:24

I love F&B paints, the extra cost is worth it because the colours are so lovely and the paint goes on the walls so much easier that you end up using less. But, I can't get F&B here and the paint you get is like water, it sort of runs down the walls as you try to paint it on. And they love orange and terracotta colours for walls, so it's hard to find nice colours.

Tell me more about the shoulders and legs thing. Do you mean his legs on your shoulder or the other way round Confused

OP posts:
MuddyWellyNelly · 12/04/2012 13:33

I assume the other way round mrsden. Mr Nelly and I use this a lot. He kneels, I lie on my back with my legs on his shoulders. Quite lazy of me Grin. Hasn't got me pregnant though.....

Oh, I appear to have started spotting. Sludge-gate starts again.

mrsden · 12/04/2012 13:37

ahh, well we do that one a lot. And it hasn't worked for us yet. Darn, I thought there was a new way I didn't know about that was going to be the secret answer.

Boo to spotting nelly.

OP posts:
BerylThePerilous · 12/04/2012 13:41

I second you on the F&B paints, MrsD; they?re so nice. I was a paint mixer for a while (one of my many stop-gap jobs, which also includes ? a particular favourite ? punnet-packing) and vowed to only use those paints when I got my own home. That day is fast approaching ? fingers crossed we are exchanging today? and a whole new world of paints and soft furnishings will open up!

Anyway, I just wanted to say good luck to gin for today. Thinking of you!

BerylThePerilous · 12/04/2012 13:43

Sorry, nelly, I didn't see you message... Boo hiss to spotting!

poutintrout · 12/04/2012 14:00

Just want to pop on and wish frannie a happy birthday. I hope that you are suitably spoiled today Grin

Will catch up properly tomorrow. I had my pre-op thing today so DH is home and I am supposed to supervise help him put up the spare bed frame. Joy!

Waves to everyone else. x

whatmess · 12/04/2012 14:18

Happy Birthday Frannie.

I'm still lurking as you can see. Hope no one minds. Phil I'm another one who agrees with Frannie, however I would add that if your cycles are very irregular or extremely long, then it is possible that you are only ovulating occasionally or possibly not at all. I don't think you can tell for sure until you speak to a specialist. Your GP should refer you to a fertility clinic. I had the same, day 21 test was inconclusive and cycles long and very irregular. A scan showed polycystic ovaries, but there is treatment available and in my case it seems to have been successful.
Because the appointment wait can be so long, I would be eager to start the ball rolling asap.

whatmess · 12/04/2012 14:23

Just to add. I was not offered clomid and instead offered a Lapparoscopic ovarian drilling (diathermy) and hysteroscopy. I think it depends on your circumstances, although I'm not sure what those are and or the consultant.
My best guess is that clomid would not have made any difference as my ovaries where blocked by the cysts that had formed.

If the operation had not worked, clomid was on the cards but only after three months of trying with just the holes drilled into my ovaries. Worked first month.

This doesn't appear to be the norm though.

GinSoaked · 12/04/2012 16:22

Hi All! Just a quick un from me. Will catch up properly tomorrow when more with it!

We has 2 little embies transferred this morning! One was 5 cell grade 1 and the other 9 cell grade 2. I opted for sedation for it, so it was all fine! They gave us a little pic of the fluid with them in in my womb :) The dr also told me that I have a couple of ruptures in my fanjo wall - presumably from the EC....Apparently I have a delicate vaginal wall.. Explains the smear test pain I guess!

Thanks for all the good wishes. You is a lovely bunch of ladies!

And happy birthday frannie xx

minipie · 12/04/2012 16:58

Just popping on quickly to say belated congratulations to kitty - yay! happy birthday to frannie. and gin hope that your embies stick!

Exciting times in the LTTC camp! like whatmess I am still lurking too, this thread is too good to leave properly...!

izzybizzybuzzybees · 12/04/2012 17:31

I lurk as well! Is there a grads thread for us somewhere??

philbee · 12/04/2012 18:06

Thank you all. I don't know anyone IRL who's going through this, it's so reassuring to have you to ask!

ladygee - I didn't explain properly. I was calling to make a GP appointment for tomorrow and just asked them to check whether results were in. So she did know that I was coming in anyway. But yes, bit odd really, as they are sensitive sorts of results, and I've been pretty down about it today without being able to ask questions (except to you of course!).

Thanks frannie, muddy and whatmess. I don't think they did test at the right time tbh. I have a dead on 28 day cycle, have done for about five months and even before it only ever got one day out. But I've been ov testing and if I ovulate it's on day 18. So it's a short luteal phase, which I thought might be a problem. When I asked to have the test I told the GP all this and said I thought I'd need the test later, maybe day 25. She insisted it was 7 days before my period was due, not 7 days after ovulation. So it probably was too early. Grrr. Will ask for retest tomorrow.

frannie - happy birthday! Hope your day was ok and you feel that your wisdom is growing! I haven't been temping, no. I think I'll start though, as that should give me another idea about whether I'm ovulating. Should also mention that DH hasn't been for his test yet, despite it being OVER A MONTH since I asked him to make an appointment. Hmm.

Anyway, thanks again everyone. I will see what the GP says the next step is tomorrow. Presumably if they'll give me clomid it won't hurt to try it anyway. And hello lurkers! I don't see why you shouldn't lurk here!

lisacn · 12/04/2012 19:03

teu thought you might be a mainlander Grin were you affected by the earthquake where you live, I had friends who couldn't go to work, but they all live out in the burbs, the after shocks were hardly mentioned here, it is sad that the cathedral will go, hope you haven't run out of marmite, DH was hoping to make a killing by sending the english stuff Hmm

mess can I ask if you had the hysteroscopy?? I got an email to say my presciption has been sent but if I want to have the hysteroscopy first that was fine Confused I really don't want to go down that road but now wonder if it is worth trying with the drugs next month Sad I'm normally phased by procedures so I don't know why I just don't get on with it!!!

nelly sorry about the spotting but it could be late implantation bleed, I had it with both my preggies nobody else bloody does in fact the first time I had spotting CD27 and the second time I had spotting on CD26 and it carried on for a week and my hcg levels kept going up. Don't want to give you false hope but you never know :) oh and is your secret hobbying line dancing??

gin that is great news, you just rest up and let mini gins get settle in, you could have twins Wink

mrsd Grin Grin Grin just thinking about his knees over my shoulders, that might be the new secret way

euro glad the clinic sound nice and helpful, it takes some of the stress off you wondering

lady it was artemis who first said it, but I really cab relate, I have to make sure DH has eaten and seen the news before I can pounce, hope you are feeling better

beryl not sure but usually the blood tests only take a day or so, I know with my hcg ones they took only 3-4 hours, i'll give them a call tomorrow if I write it down to remind myself I'm starting to wonder if dementia is catching :) if so i'm screwed with my job

philbee I think someone suggested temping, just make sure you get the right kind of thermometer, I got mine from Amazon its called babymad Hmm I also have a cbfm too,not that I am obsessive have you tried OKP's you can get some cheap ones off Amazon too, sorry if I am just repeating what other have said

A big hello and waves to everyone x

whatmess · 12/04/2012 19:36

Lisa yes I did have the hysteroscopy and it showed stage 2 endometriosis which the consultant burnt off with a laser as well as showing that otherwise my uterus was in good condition.
Unfortunately I can't really advise as to whether you should go ahead with it or try the drugs first, except to say the op itself was really straight forward and quick. And if I hand't have had the belly button infection, it would have been virtually pain free after two days. But if I also think the key bit for me was the ovarian drilling. Although I'm glad the endometriosis was dealt with, that in itself shouldn't have stopped me getting pregnant. Mind you mine was only mild to moderate.

lisacn · 12/04/2012 20:15

mess thanks they think that my lining is thinnish because of the scars, although after my last ERPC I had 2 normal periods and then they started to get lighter, I think and do some others on the pred thread think its down to the steroids, this is why i'm not in a hurry to have it done, might go with drugs first

kittysaysmiaow · 12/04/2012 21:38

Aaaargh just wrote a bloody massive post and then my laptop randomly decided to switch itself off. I lost it all and I was right near the end!

My dinner is ready now so will just say quickly, gin YAY for your lovely two little embies Smile and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Frannie. And Nelly I am hoping AF stays away.

Back soon!

MuddyWellyNelly · 12/04/2012 22:51

Haha kitty glad to see you eat as late as me :)

lisa I do tend to get spotting anyway so I'm fairly sure this is just the pre-cursor to the usual. Sometimes when it starts I do get this kind of Meh haze over me, where I just think "oh what a bloody surprise, here's my period on it's way again, following it's completely regular and predictable pattern"

Hooray for the 2 embies gin here is hoping they stick! Did you get any for freezing or is it too soon to tell?

izzy there was this thread from some time ago - don't know if any of the newer grads have started a different one though?

I promised myself an early night and it's not happened. Off to bed now though.

TeuchterWahine · 13/04/2012 00:57

lisa Not as affected as some but still out east. No sewers Feb to Jun was fun. House is cosmetic only, but the backyard is a right off. Nice 4.6 yesterday lunchtime, woodframe houses fair wobble! The cathedral is sad but having seen it, I don't think they had another choice. I don't think many people like the UK Marmite here, shame on them. I have my stocks so A-OK Grin
Very best of thoughts gin
Forgot to say hi to purple yesterday, sorry.
