A friendly, supportive thread for those of us who are taking a bloody long little longer time than average to conceive.

OP posts:
poutintrout · 03/04/2012 17:58

x-posted with you ladygee
I so hope that your appointment is productive tomorrow and that you and your DH come out feeling more buoyed up.

My LP seems to change each cycle too. Shall I get the big ledger list out and mentally add that to the TTC worries?!

Oh FGS about AF silly bugger games. She truly is a bitch.

Am a bit shocked that someone can be upset because you haven't asked about their bump, in a text as well!

GinSoaked · 03/04/2012 18:11

Hi ladies, just a super quick message from me to say congrats mini that's fab news!!

And please can you add me to the messages about meeting up?

Ta and hello to all. Will catch up properly tomoz

BerylThePerilous · 03/04/2012 18:55

Hello everyone,

Do you mind another newbie joining you? I stumbled across your thread a few weeks ago and it has cheered me up no end. There?s nothing quite like finding out you?re not alone, despite non-virtual evidence to the contrary: I don?t know a single person in real life who has had difficulty ttc (or, more accurately, who has admitted to having had any difficulties). But the trouble is I?m just as bad? I haven?t told anyone (apart from my mum) that we are actively trying, let alone that we are encountering problems. My lovely OH suggested we break the taboo by talking about it with our friends but the thought of it makes me cringe!

But I don?t mind sharing with you ladies: ttc #1 11 months, me 34, dp 39. Once upon a time, about 5 months in, we had two lines ? twice! But we were using those early response, super-keen tests and, before she was officially due, af arrived and it was all over before it had begun. Some days I take comfort from that and think at least it means it?s technically possible. Other times I feel so useless that I am sure the tests were false positives. Mostly I?m left feeling robbed ? those two days when I had my two lines were so happy and carefree. If I?m ever lucky enough to see them again, I know I?ll be beset with worries. Mind you, I?d take that over af any day? So we bought a CB fertility monitor a couple of months ago and I discovered that I ovulate quite late and my lp is a measly 9 days. Some serious googling research later, I bought a load of vitamin B6 and agnus cactus to address the issue (which I took for one month before ditching). Yesterday we went to the gp and have set the ball rolling. I?ve got to get a day 21 blood test done but the clinic isn?t open on Saturdays, which is when day 21 falls this month. Do you think day 23 will be ok?

This is my first post on MN and I think it?s quite a long one? So let me just add my congratulations to stasi and to minipie on their BFPs! It?s fantastic news and I?ll keep everything crossed for you. Waves to everyone else!

lisacn · 03/04/2012 18:59

mini congrats that is great news :)

pout let me assure you we are not posh at all just little piggies who want to try the fancy cakes you can't be posh and live in Sutton Grin

artemis welcome

lemons fingers crossed for you x

I think it would help to have a list of people and abit of their history on this board, as I'm not sure who is having what treatment etc but I can understand if people don't want their info online.

Well went for my tracking scan today, only one good follie Hmm I obviously produced that myself so feel i'm entitled to a refund. My lining is ok 7.2mm??? He thinks the ERPC'S and the perforated uterus could be causing me problems with the light periods and ok lining, thinks an hystoscopy??? might help, so I left feeling a little deflated

Sorry its a quick self indulgent post but its swi week and need to make the most of my one and only follie Wink

whatmess · 03/04/2012 19:54

Congratulations Minnie. Great news Smile. I am loving the BFPs at the moment. Makes me feel very positive about us all.

Welcome to Artemis, Beryl and Stacks.

Threads moved too quickly for me to catch up, so I'll just say hello to everyone and make sure I keep reading from here. Bit cheeky I know, but my eyes are tired after a rather long optometrist appt.

Nothing happening here. It's 6DPO so all is calm.

Purpledragon · 03/04/2012 20:13

Hi, like your thread, didn't post before and sorry to jump in but Beryl I believe that if you ov late then 21day bloods a little later would be more helpful rather than less. You don't say how long your cycle is though. Good luck.

Frannieannie · 03/04/2012 20:19

Evening all,
Hoping to catch up a bit tonight! Wow, mini what great news! You must be thrilled! Hope you are being well looked after. Can't believe we have 2 in 2 days- great big rays of hope! Really hope that you, stasi, fatima and izzy come back to keep us updated on progress!

artemis and beryl welcome. Glad that you found, as I did, that this thread has given you moments of reassurance. Have to say I have images of you both being superhero types with your names, fear I sound a bit wet with mine! Hope your stay here is short and sweet.

lemons have been wondering how your 2WW is going. Have everything crossed for you that you'll be another lucky one this month.

lisa good luck with the follie- hope it's a good one.

joycep sorry to hear you were upset at the acu's. I've done the same and she said it was part of me opening my emotional floodgates! Hmm It may sound odd but letting go in front of someone who is not emotionally attached or involved with you can be good, as you can walk away from it. Hope that the session has left you feeling a little better. Not heard of any of those tests- who knew there were so many bloody things that could go wrong/ be off kilter? Will be really interested to find out if you can get through the NHS. 20 minutes just to get a form sounds a bit annoying. My clinic felt so deathly still- tumbleweed and all- I'm not sure if I'd prefer that or pandemonium?

Kitty sorry about the outbreak. If it's any consolation Hmm I've been told I haven't got PCOS yet I always get boil lump type out breaks, especially on my chin. I feel like I've always been more greasy than others, had thought it would mean I would stay looking young- but alas, I have spots and wrinkles- boo! I also overheard my Mum once talking to her friend on the phone about my facial hair- gosh don't I sound like a pretty picture!

gin you sound like a follie machine- hope all goes well with the egg collection.

euro no booze since Feb- I take my hat off to you! Do you feel better in yourself? (physically, rather than all the shitty ttc stuff). Not sure why the clinics close at the weekend when the rest of the world is open 7 days a week- same with the blood tests that beryl mentioned. Mine closes bank holidays too, there's loads of them coming up. They've said if it falls on it they'll just abandon the cycle and that's a chance gone??!

Sorry to others for the return of the evil AF and for crappy pregnancy announcements that just get harder to deal with. Would love to disappear to an island with DH and internet link only to this site (certainly no google) and come back only when I have a bump!

Have to go now as I promised dinner an hour ago- sorry to those missed- big waves! x

whatmess · 03/04/2012 20:21

Beryl My day 21 fell on a Sat too. I was told to do the test Friday afternoon, but it really made no difference. The test was inconclusive as I had very long and irregular periods and wasn't ovulating.
If you have regular cycles but ovulate late then I'd go for the Monday rather than the Friday, like Purple suggested.

Frannieannie · 03/04/2012 20:41

Yes, sorry beryl forgot to say. I agree with whatmess and purple dragon that if you have late ov it would prob be better to go on the Monday. With one of mine it was the same and the nurse kindly wrote on the blood form the day that it had actually been taken. Maybe you could ask for that to happen?

BerylThePerilous · 03/04/2012 21:03

Thanks whatmess, purple, and frannie for the advice re 21 days. Monday makes sense, then. :) at frannie?s superhero image? I?m much more of a ?getting myself into scrapes? kind of Beryl!

eurochick · 03/04/2012 21:08

Wow. 2 BFPs. Good going, girls!

I gnashed my teeth a bit at the Robbie news. I thought he was gay? Maybe he was just amazed at how it works with a women?

I don't really feel better for not drinking, annoyingly. And I thought I might lose a pound or two, but no. I'll probably continue through this IUI cycle and might then let my hair down on the bank holiday weekend in a month as I am going away for that and it will be just after the end of this cycle.

lisa we did have a stats list on here but it probably needs updating. Shall we kick it off again? Dinner just arrived but I will try to look for it later.

kittysaysmiaow · 03/04/2012 22:57

Mini - BFP!!! Unbelievable - two in two days Grin Grin Wonder who will be next

TreacleChops · 03/04/2012 23:09

hi ladies, sorry i haven't been around for a few weeks (maybe even months) but i just thought id update you's

myself and my partner have been TTCing for 18 months now with no luck, my periods are hardly regular and in November, my hair started to fall out.

Finally got a referral to the dermatologist, unfortunately its in June! and i have been referred for a scan on my ovaries in the next few weeks.

Had a full blood count that came back clear so i have also been sent for further hormonal blood tests to see if that shows anything up!

And breathe!

eurochick · 03/04/2012 23:20

Here is the start of a list update:

euro I'm 36, husband is 37, ttc #1, on cycle 18. Had all the standard tests and have a diagnosis of "unexplained infertility" and a referral for one round of IVF on the NHS. I also had immune testing privately that showed a high NK cell count. The private consultant suggested trying superovulation alongside immunetherapy to speed things up while I was waiting for IVF. I tried three rounds of that. I was then due to start IVF but am not mentally in the right place so have put it off for a couple of months and am planning to try IUI in the meantime.

Whatmess I'm 34, DH 31, ttc #2. On about cycle 8 but that's in the 18 months since MC. Diagnosed with PCOS and stage 2 endometriosis. Had a lap & dye ovarian drilling and hysteroscopy beginning of March 2012 in which endometriosis was all diathermised with laser. This is cycle 1 post operation. Due back at consultants in May and if not pregnant will start on Clomid. DH all tickety boo.

Frannieannie · 04/04/2012 07:47

Not sure how to add mine on with euro's on my phone, but here's mine:

frannie ttc #1 for 2 years, with no BFPs. Me 35 this month (looking forward to that) and DH 36. All bloods, HSG and scans have come back as 'normal', as has DHs SA. Start IUI next cycle.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 04/04/2012 08:05

Morning lovely ladies! All the crossed fingers and lovely responses have delurked me again. Halfway through the TWWs now, it is actually okay - it took me a good few days to feel free of the trigger shot (which had odd and unflattering side effects of constipation and wind Shock) but have been myself since the weekend. So I didn't do the euro virtuousness approach and instead drowned anything that may be lurking in there with gin on Friday and was horribly hangover on Sunday (I have become a complete lightweight). And now it is just THERE all the time. I vary from imagining That Call with good news (during a job interview) and panicking about the planning of the next two rounds of IUI (because they trigger you slightly before O would normally happen, my cycle is moved a little and it is touch and go whether we can manage them with hols coming up in May). That is the lemon-news... Oh, I did make amazing millionaire's shortbread in my hangover state. So here's some for all of you!

Welcome beryl! Sorry you've had to join us, but it has been a fertile thread so far already. So clearly we need new blood! As to telling people, I told everyone in a ten mile radius (because at the year point I was crying about it loads, including at my appraisal etc). I really regret that now, if I am honest. But I have been telling people to back off now we're having help and that I'll let them know if and when there's news.

Now I'll quickly update the list and then, maybe, do some work...

Frannieannie · 04/04/2012 08:47

Thanks lemon for adding me. Such a grandma with technology! Yum to hangover induced millionaires shortbread. Hope you enjoyed the party! Wind and constipation what lovely side effects-I guess cos it's HCG? Hope the 2ww is speedy for you. I'm 3dpo and have my bday next week. 2 yr anniversary of officially trying. Keep having images of this being my destined month, birthday phonecalls etc (cue crashing down to earth with a bump as per last year!).
euro crappiness that the lack of alcohol isn't making you feel hugely different. Just think what a cheap date you'll be on the bank hol though! My 2 month (felt like a lot longer) abstinence was broken at the royal wedding last year. Great day- what I can remember of it. Blush
Hello to treacle I've not met you before. Sorry you've been having such a rough time. June seems a ridiculous time to make you wait. Hope the blood tests provide some useful info for you.
Should go and do something useful. Was going to paint the decking until a huge raincloud just appeared! Still, we need some rain!

ladygee · 04/04/2012 10:38

Welcome beryl ? I?m glad you?ve found this thread helpful, though I?m sorry you have to be here at all.

Grin at kitty?s lottery finger hunting down the next of our BFPs!

lemons ? sounds like you?re taking things in your stride. The shortbread sounds yummy!

After lapsing on the healthy eating and no booze front over the past few weeks, I?m back on it this week ? good timing what with Easter around the corner!

It?s snowing like crazy here, the roads are like a car park with cars at random angles across the road! DH has just landed home after abandoning the car a few streets away. Hope it clears so we can get to the hospital this afternoon.

Waves to all you lovely ladies

ladygee ttc #1 15 months. Me 29, DH 33. Diagnosis so far - one blocked tube and a below average sperm count. Self-funded cycle of IVF ICSI Feb '12, ended with BFN. Awaiting follow-up appointment to talk through next steps. We are also on NHS waiting list for ICSI, probably at the end of 2012.

lovesLemonDrizzleCake · 04/04/2012 10:56

The taking things in my stride seems to have evaporated completely today. I am really edgy and nervous. And I still have a week to wait. So it is stupid. Also, I have shit-loads to do for work and I've been reading about iui all morning. Must make a to do list and stick to it.

Waves at you all.

joycep · 04/04/2012 11:47

pout* - i looked through the form last night and it just wants a brief history of investigations so far. On this form it also talks about getting up to date blood tests like HIV, Hep tests so now i don?t know what to do as i really don?t want to go back to my GP who didn?t want to give me more blood tests. nothing is simple! Yes this is private but I am hoping I will get my nhs appointment before i have my first meeting there and hoping the nhs may throw up something before I go down private route.

lady - can?t believe you have snow. I hope your appointment this pm is positive and helpful. I must say lady i always thought ivf would be physically demanding ? all those bloods and scans can?t have beeneasy.

beryl - welcome and sorry what you are going through. I am a fellow short LP person so will be interested to hear what they say about your short LP. LP is an odd one. MY gynae tried to fix mine with extra progesterone which did make my LP longer but i think it is more complex than this for me. Also, day 21 tests should be done 7dpo so I don?t know whether that effects the day you go? I am getting my acupuncturist to do a progesterone test this month and his idea is to do every month in the hope of raising my levels.

frannie - oh did you cry at the acupuncturist too? I?m constantly trying to dam the emotional floodgates. I have a problem with crying in public so thankfully i held it together until he went out the room. I don?t know why but i get so embarrassed if I cry in front of people ? even my husband. I would also love to disappear to an island with no internet access and return with a baby in tow!

lemon - uuum millionaires shortbread yum yum yum. I was such a piggy when i was younger that when there was millionaires in the biscuit tin, i would hide the tin from my brothers.

Really stupid question but is there anyway you can make a cake without flour or sugar or would that just be disgusting? I have a middle Eastern orange cake recipe which doesn?t contain flour and that is delicious but it does contain sugar.

minipie · 04/04/2012 12:31

just popping in to say thanks to everyone for the congratulations. and thanks for the past couple of months too, I know I haven't been here that long but it has been really great having others who "get it" and will not think I am loopy or bitter. Thank you

got to run but just a couple of things (see, I just can't leave this thread Grin)

lemons fingers crossed for you in your 2ww.

treacle have you had your thyroid checked? hair loss is a common side effect of thyroid ishoos afaik

GinSoaked · 04/04/2012 12:33

Hi All, wow, lots to catch up on! We have been busy :)

Hello to all Beryl, Artemis and purple. Sorry you have ended up here, but this thread is proving rather fertile at the moment.

Joy sorry to hear the clinic proved a bit scary! Do you mind me asking which one you went to? The open days are really good and the clinics really do vary. If I can manage IVF (well, so far), I?m sure anyone can! I?m such a wimp with anything vaguely medical. And you know you can cope with the injections etc from the IUI. Re cakes, I have a fab cookbook called ?Red Velvet & Chocolate Heartache?. It has lots of flour free recipes and uses low fat alternatives (frequently vegetables) and things like orange juice and honey as sweeteners. It also gives you the calorie count, which is still a bit scary, despite lack of fat and sugar! I could send you a sample recipe if you want to check it out?!

Lemons sorry to hear you?re feeling a bit edgy today. I?m sure it?s really normal and do give yourself a bit of a break. I think it?s amazing any of us manage to work with all this ttc crap!

ladyg Shock at the snow! It?s still quite sunny here. Good luck with the appointment. Hope you have all your questions at the ready and that you get some answers from them.

Frannie lol at your mum nicely telling her friend about your beard! And kitty your comments about sprouting facial hair & loosing other hair made me chuckle out loud on the train yesterday, like a mad lady. I appear to have a fine beard this month ? am blaming the stims!

Lisa At least you know you have one follie this month. I send myself mad wondering whether I have any some months. Enjoy the SWI Wink. Oh and like you and pout, I live in faux Surrey, in a part nowhere near as posh as Sutton! If we got a Starbucks, we?d think the area was on the up!

Pout I?m super envious of those Cath Kidson changing bags too. One day, they will be ours...

Mini and Stasi hope the good news is beginning to feel real.

Mrsd hope everything will all be ok with your clinic. I?m surprised to hear of one closing down. In London new ones seem to be springing up all the time!

I had another scan this morning and all seems to be going well apparently. They now think egg collection will be Monday or Tuesday, but I have another scan on Friday so will know more then. This means Mr Gin won?t be able to go on a stag do the weekend after, as it will probably clash with egg transfer. I?ve told him he can go if he wants whilst thinking don?t you bloody dare. Am feeling ok, although have one of my hormonal headaches and definite twinges/aches in the ovary area. Oh, and TMI alert, but I have like buckets of EWCM! We start the scary centrocide (sp?) injections tonight, to prevent ovulation. Not looking forward to those...

Oh and pllllllleeeaasseee can you send me the emails about the meet up. I?ll be nice, promise!
