ok, as the january thread reached 1800 posts exactly, well it did at last count, I think it's time we started the February thread. Now February has lots going for it, valentines, extra reasons for BD, it only has 28 days, the average length of a menstral cycle, .. so me thinks feb will be a very positive month for all of us!

Happy BD to all! (((hugs))) xxx

I think it is good to consider the initials of a kids name, our surname is Oliver, and so could be a bit of a problem with names starting with certain letters, such as B Oliver - not going to do the poor love any good in school!!

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:02

lol cheers mumswish!

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:06

Are you going to find out if you are having a girl or a boy, or leave it as a suprise?

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:06

ahh, no matter. yeah thinking about initals is important.

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:07

babynames.com

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:07

id want to know if it was a girl or a boy. did u find out before your first was born natalie?

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:09

nope still no working, i give up,

I dont want to know but DP does so we can decorate properly. Keep telling him no i'm sure he'll get the msg eventually.

I know this is a question that doesnt really matter but would you like a girl/boy

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:10

that link really dont wantto work does it. its deff called babynames.com and is realy helpful. ppl will have to just type it in the web browser is all

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:11

hmmm, girl or boy...i dont know really..i can honestly say that i would be equally over the moon whatever sex it was... what about u mumswish?

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:11

i know its def what it is cos i've been to the website it just wont let me link to it

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:13

We did ask to know, I was so fed up of calling the bump 'it' or 'she or he'. We found out but didn't tell any one else, but I think they probably realised when the nursary turned out to be blue!!!

I think we will have to find out this time, the new babies nursary will be the room which at the moment is piled high with Thomas' old stuff, if we find we are having a girl most of it will need to be changed for pink things, and even if we find out it is a boy, I don't want to use a lot of Thomas' things because they are what has made Thomas the way he is, and I would want to give our second child the same space to become his own person as Thomas had IYSWIM?

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:13

well obviuosly I wouldnt care as long as he /she was healthy but i'd love a little girl to dress up in dresses. DP DOESNT want a girl, he'd be too protective.

Have you seen a program called 8 simple rules on ABC1 thats my DP.

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:17

were you surprised when they said that it was a boy or did you kinda know?

I know what you mean about giving him his space, I used to have loads of hand-me downs but parents always made sure I had something new every now and again so I'd be me.

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:17

never mind bout the link mumswish.
no, ive never seen that programme mumswish lol, i think that my dp would be the same. he wants us to have 2 children...one of each, boy first..ive tried explaining to him that it dont work quite ike that..it aint like ordering car parts lol. im happy, whatever it is (and would love 2, but im gonna walk before i can run i think )

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:18

I think I would like a girl this time round, but then I think Thomas would probably get on better with a boy, DH says he doesn't mind, goes with out saying as long as s/he is healthy it doesn't matter what sex, but I think most people do lean to one or the other. I really wanted a boy first time round, not sure why, maybe because I had 4 sister's growing up with me!!!

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:20

its called "8 simple rules for dating my daughters" he tries to make sure they dont have boyfriends ever! thats what I expect DP to be like!!

I know what you mean about not ordering car parts. DP reckons that we're gonna have a boy, twin girls and then "maybe" another boy.

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:21

I think I did kind of know, my sisters seem to have some sort of condition that means they can give birth to healthy boys but m/c with girls, so once I had gone past 12 weeks I sort of thought it was a boy else why was it still there! Bit silly really because there is no real evidence just coinsidence but it just fitted at the time!

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:26

i'll have to keep my eye out for that show then, it sounds good lol.
lets hope that we all get our bfps then girls.
is it true that you have to pay for a private scan if u want to know the sexof the baby???

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:28

I know you have to pay for every private scan you have but they can tell you the sex when you're having your 20wk scan (as far as I know) theres a lady on MN called Diddle who had a couple of private scans early on, see if you can find her, shes normally on TTC after MC

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:30

cheers, i'll keep my eye out for her. hey, are u going to watch that show "extraordinary breastfeeding" on wed, channel4

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:32

definatly, I'm really interested to see how the lady who still breastfeeds her 7 yr old is gonna justify it.

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:32

We never paid, as far as I am aware, in a healthy pregnancy you are entitled to your dating scan around 12/13 weeks which literally is to confirm the pregnancy, get a definate EDD, and the scanner will also look for any signs of anything wrong with the baby, then you have the 20 week scan again to check everything is OK and well with the baby, and it is this scan where they can sometimes tell if it is a girl or boy, sometimes depending on the position of the baby it isn't clear enough for them to tell you.

I think you might be getting mixed up with these 3D and 4D scans you can get now, I don't know much about them other than that you do have to pay for them (I think around £200-£300) but I should think you will be able to get a definate idea of what sex the baby is with one of them.

mumswish · 31/01/2006 15:34

I want one of those scans, the 3d & 4d ones. I've seen someones picture of they're baby and it looked so great!! I want one

wuzzlefraggle · 31/01/2006 15:36

yeah the 3d and 4d scans look really impressive.
i must say that im intrigued as to what this tv show will be like too.
did you used to watch mumstheword?? curious is all. i did, thats how heard of mumsnet...took me ages to get the guts to actually post on here tho

NatalieJane · 31/01/2006 15:38

When I first heard of them I did think what a great idea, but now thinking about it for me personally, those first few precious moments after you have given birth looking for the first time at this little person you have made... I just think it is more special to see them for the first time after you worked bloody hard to see them than to go and lie on a table and see them before IYKWIM? Obviously though not saying people shouldn't have the scans!!
