nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 18:39

Congrats on your BFP it gives me hope for my first month trying :)

WinterMymble · 03/01/2012 18:39

Feel nervous and dizzy! I do hope you stick, little bean. I will think sticky thoughts.

(VELCRO! SELLOTAPE!)

raspberrytipple · 03/01/2012 18:41

evening ladies :)
First day back at work today for me was quite simply a complete drag. Genuinely thought I was going to fall asleep at my desk by 2.30! yuk, missing my afternoon nap that is for sure.

Hey flick hope you are getting on ok? Nice to see you but will be happier when we speak 'on the other side'.

lol'ed at Nearly's DH talking to the belly - that's so sweet. Generally speaking my DH has always been a little stand offish, I think even to this day he's still a bit scared and stresses about the practicalities. I did have a wobbly moment on hols earlier this year, we were on the beach and both decided really that 'beach' holidays weren't really for us but as we were walking back to the camper DH just went, 'well, it'll be much nicer when we've got kids, they'll like it'. Very sweet but aarrrgghhhhh I just wanted to cry and scream 'I'm sorry I'm so useless' Sad DH has also stated that any baby we do have is not, under any circumstances to touch either his xbox or his playstation Grin that just made me laugh bless him. Small things an all that!

Welcome to the latest batch of newbies and cave speaks much sense. Fingers crossed you win your babies quickly but don't put too much pressure on yourself as it can take a while, it's certainly a bit of a journey as a few of us on here could tell you Hmm we'll get there though, one way or the other.

My only news for now is that I had my blood tests back again and the reading they were a teeny bit concerned about has now improved greatly but is still high. It was 75, it's now 38 and it should be 34 or less so I have to go back to the GP on Thursday AGAIN. People will start to talk soon! Also back on the health kick from today, glad to be actually, have been gradually more and more sluggish/tired and sicky from all the crappy food!

WinterMymble · 03/01/2012 19:21

Thanks so much Santa and Nearly. I am still feeling very cautious because I know the first trimester is a bit fragile traditionally - I have never been pregnant before so quite clueless from experience.

Raspberry I am so glad you made this thread. Everyone's so friendly. Sorry to hear the first day back at work was a slog - Scotland is still on public holiday today and the university where I work doesn't open until next week, so I am still holed up at home. But we had insane winds and trees were blown over and stuff so it's a bit interesting in Scotland right now!

nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 19:47

iv been back at work since the day after Stephens day (boxing day) its totally sucks doesnt it.

Fairygodmother1 · 03/01/2012 19:49

4 years in & I still can't think of anything not baby related! i have stopped buying baby mags though!

\congrats Winter!

Raspberry- I had a wobble at xmas & new years saying that I'm sorry that I'm useless too!

JNO18 · 03/01/2012 19:55

Can I join you all and also ask some advice?

Congratulations winter that's amazing news!! Certainly gives hope to us all as you have conceived against the odds. Keep us posted as to how you get on. I love the picture of your tests too, that will definitely be me if I ever do see that line. I'll need to do about 10 tests to be sure! Sorry to hear about your Mum. I can imagine how you must be feeling. Have you booked an appointment at the docs?

I am now on cycle 9 of trying to conceive number 1. We started trying this time last year but missed a couple of months. I would certainly give a cautionary word to those on cycle 1, not to get your hopes up too much as it's so disappointing when it doesn't work. Christmas was quite hard as all last year I assumed that I'd either be pregnant or have had a baby by that point. Hopefully we will all by next Christmas.

I had the 21 day bloods done last month and my progesterone was 37 so not massively high but the doc seemed happy with it. My hubby is waiting for the results of a sperm sample. he took it in on 19th December and we still don't have the results. Does anyone have experience of this? How long does it normally take? He took his sample in on the same day I had my bloods done and my results were back in the same week. It seems like we've been waiting ages.

Also, what are your ladies thoughts on caffeine? I don't drink coffee and can't seem to find a definitive answer on how much caffeine is in tea, and how much I should/shouldn't be drinking. Anyone had any professional advice on this? Confused

nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 20:08

JNO my granny drinks caffine free tea and it tastes like normal tea. yummy :)

CaveMum · 03/01/2012 20:11

Hi JNo18, welcome to the mad house!

Your progesterone sounds good to me, they say anything over 30 is good, so I'd go with it. Don't forget you might have only ovulated on Day 19 or 20 and so your levels still had a way to climb (progesterone peaks 7 days after ov).
As far as your hubby's sperm results go, that sounds very wrong to me. When we jumped through all the hoops last year (DH had to give 3 different samples for varying reasons) we had all of the results back within 2 weeks. It is possible that Christmas might have screwed around with things a bit but do give your Dr a call.

As far as caffeine goes, my What to Expect Before You're Expecting book says that the recommended maximum caffeine when ttc is 200mg a day. A cup of tea contains between 40 and 60mg per cup so you can safely drink 3 or maybe 4 cups a day. Do be careful with Green Tea though as there has been some research to suggest that it can inhibit the absorbtion of Folic Acid.

As a reference guide for other sources of caffeine, a can of coke contains 35mg and a diet coke 45mg (yes that is the right way round!); a Red Bull contains 80mg. As far as coffee goes, 200mg is 2 espressos or one "tall" fresh coffee. Not sure about instant coffee, but would presume that more than 2 mugs would put you over the limit.

Limejelly · 03/01/2012 20:16

Af arrived today Sad

I feel cheated all these years of trying not to get pregnant, when actually its not as easy as they make out!

Limejelly · 03/01/2012 20:18

Also my cycle has gone 28 days, 27 and now 26! All very confusing when you're trying to work out dates.

JNO18 · 03/01/2012 20:20

Thanks cave that's really helpful. Hubby did call the docs today but they just said it's not back yet. I suppose Christmas will have slowed things down but waiting is so frustrating. Hopefully we'll hear back by the end of the week.

Well I don't drink any of the others drinks on your list, it's just the lovely old fashioned brew. I never really drink more than 4 a day though, and I do have de-caff in the cupboard but I just don't think its quite the same (sorry *nearly!) I'll just have to try and get used to it.

How long have you been ttc cave. Is the book worth a read?

CaveMum · 03/01/2012 20:24

We've been technically ttc since May 2010, but turns out I have PCOS and it took them AGES to diagnose me. Then lots of faffing about with HSGs to check my tubes and a Laporoscopy (not fun). I'm currently on my second cycle of Clomid to make me ovulate, it's working so far but they've said I can only stay on it for 6 cycles and they'll then refer me for IVF.

The book is definitely worth looking at, I bought it along with What to Expect When You're Expecting - ha! Haven't made it that far yet!

JNO18 · 03/01/2012 20:34

thanks cave I might buy that. I have a friend who conceived after 5 years, she had PCOS and conceived with IVF in the end, so she is my inspiration really. Although I don't know how she did this for 5 years!

My hubby and I had a bit of a drunken argument over xmas about the whole TTC thing. The day after he said to me "why does no-one tell you now emotionally draining this is". It's so true. You never hear people's stories about how long they tried and how hard they found it, you only ever get the happy ending.

Sorry to hear about AF Lime, I will join the hunt for the sex education teacher. After years of desperately trying not to get pregnant it's such a shock when you want it to happen and it doesn't. Have one (or five) of these Biscuit

raspberrytipple · 03/01/2012 20:42

Omg cave I've not read that about green tea before? I've stopped drinking tea/coffee and swapped to white/green and fruit tea on recommendation of that nutritionist I saw. I drink probably one or two cups of green tea a day, the rest is fruit tea or water. I need to look into this! Gutted as Ive got to quite like it now :(

Omg again! Winter that really is fabulous. Congratulations and also thinking lots of sticky thoughts for you hunny.

I'm afraid ladies I can't take all the credit for the Frolickers thread, it has been around for a considerable amount of time in different versions and has seen many happy/sad/frustrating and funny times for many ladies ttc#1. I am hopeful that this one will be a lucky thread though!!!

OP posts:
CaveMum · 03/01/2012 20:47

I wouldn't panic too much raspberry, the piece I read said to limit yourself to 2 cups of Green Tea a day, so it is doubtful it will cause a problem. The research probably amounts to nothing, you know what these "don't do this/that when ttc" things are like.

nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 20:48

Well raspberry it seems to be lucky as we have had 1 bfp already. so this can be the uber lucky frolickers thread.

Fairygodmother1 · 03/01/2012 21:00

I'll join the hunt to get the sex ed teacher!!! Angry

Cave - know how you're feeling hon!

raspberrytipple · 03/01/2012 21:21

Perhaps what we need to do to get updiffed is actually do it like the examples given in sex ed of how you could would get caught out. So from now on I am only going to have sex whilst under the influence of class A drugs or white lightening cider, up against a wall or in a bath, with DH wearing a condom - do you know you can still get pregnant wearing a condom! Oh yes indeedy..... I shall then rush up, have a wee and douche my fanjo. That is bound to work innit? That's what we got told in school. Might have helped on the jonny front if they didn't teach us how to put one on with a cucumber. Poor boys, it wasn't until I was about 20 that I realised how utterly demoralising it must have been for them being given a cucumber as an exact representation of a 'normal' manhood on which to practice Hmm

I've passed panicking cave, Dr Google helped me out and you are right, about two cups is plenty antioxidant wise but any more might stop folic acid being absorbed so I should be fine. Grin

OP posts:
JNO18 · 03/01/2012 21:33

Good plan!!

I was thinking about this "you can still get pregnant with a condom" thing yesterday (when watching Friends!). Is that really true? Does anyone know anyone that has happened to in real life? surely the condom has to be out of date or not put on right or something.

I don't remember getting any demos Raspberry but I bet the poor boys went home with massive complexes after that!

nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 21:36

we got given penises, not real ones as i think that might be slightly illegal Grin
so it turns out giving up smoking isnt the best thing to do when ttc. we both want to throttle each other and not in a sexy way.

WinterMymble · 03/01/2012 21:42

Rasp i am giggling madly at the sex-ed-defying strategies you outline there. I think also rogue indie music in rhe background. Good point re the profound trauma of the Cucumber Demonstration - sex ed teachers have much to answer for! Let's get pitchforks!

Re caffeine, i have a secret addiction - rooibos tea. It ia caffeine free but SO delicious ... I like it more than tea or coffee. It is called redbush here i think, i grew up in africa and got hooked on it there. I think i read it was good for anti oxidants etc, but mainly i just adore the taste. Could drink buckets!

WinterMymble · 03/01/2012 21:46

Cavemum a fellow lap survivor! They aren't fun, are they? I was blithely assured i would be able to go the gym the same evening as the surgery, but after they sliced me open they decided actually no, they were keeping me in overnight, and i wouldnt be recovered for two weeks. That was in October. But it certainly seems useful! We had never tried ttc before this December cycle, but i am sure without lap it wouldn't have been possible at all. Endometriosis sucks!

raspberrytipple · 03/01/2012 21:47

See I reckon I need to start smoking too, I know a few people who have the most awful lifestyle, they drink waaaay to much, smoke like chimneys get no exercise and live on KFC/pizza yet seem to produce children like the clappers!

JNO8 DH's results took 7 days to come back so I would definitely start chasing

Sorry AF got you lime

Like Fairy most of my life is taken up thinking about being pregnant, baby clothes, giving birth, first birthday's, first words/bikes/day at school, I can go weeks without thinking of or dreaming about anything else.

OP posts:
nearlydunne · 03/01/2012 21:53

I thought about it alot before we started ttc but now its constant.
dp has gone to bed early to read his new baby book. What have i created.
All the things you have all been through sounds awful but i hope it will be worth it when you get your bfp Smile
