If you were TTC and had been for some time would you pause to avoid an August baby?

We were carrying on TTC and not intending to stop, someone said to me that they were surprised that I was not taking a break and trying again when I would get a Sept due date.

I have to admit I did not pay dates any attention the first time but it now has me thinking.

I am over 35 so my gut feeling is that I cannot afford to be too choosy.

Sorry twinkly I don't understand what is wrong with an August due date?

My DS was born on Christmas Day and I did get a lot of "well, why were you TTC in March?" and, to be honest, the thought that my baby might be born on Christmas Day didn't cross my mind and, even if it had we wouldn't have missed a month :-)

Same issue gets raised about Christmas babies. Nope, I'm an August birthday and I loved it. Always had my birthday in the holidays :)
There's pros and cons to all months surely, winter, baby vulnerable to bugs, summer, pregnant in the heat. May/June, have to do exams on their birthday. I want a baby. Full stop. The sooner the better.

Sorry I should have said they were thinking of coping at school. I guess they thought that as a teacher I would be more concerned.

A Christmas baby would not bother me, in fact that would be lovely.

Personally I'd just like to get pregnant and have a healthy baby, not fussed which month it's born in.

Seriously, not sure I really get that - what's wrong with an august baby? What was their reasoning?

I think I was ok academically but struggled a bit socially. If I had an August baby I'd just be more conscious about that. I dunno, I'm a bit odd, I may have struggle regardless...

DD1 - Christmas
DD2 - August
DS - September.

I'm an August birthday too havealittle :)

What age will they be when starting school? A young five, or an old four (IYSWIM)?

It's different in Scotland to England for starting school as the cut of is 28th February. So if your birthday is before 28th February you will start school the previous August, but if your birthday is after 1st March you will start school the coming August (if that makes sense) but if your child is a Jan/Feb birthday then I believe you have the option to defer them for a year.

Neither of mine arrived the month they were due anyway! 1 was 3 weeks early and the other 2 weeks late (August - and I wouldn't change a thing about him) :)

My sister is an August baby and she struggled socially and academically, they may also have been thinking about that.

I was doing some research earlier as it got me thinking and they raised social concerns as well, particularly for girls

My August baby is a star; I wouldn't be without him. It matters not a jot to me that he was born in August, I'm just glad he's here. OK, so the research indicates he may be educationally disadvantaged. But let's face it, there's lots of ways kids can be disadvantaged. He's amazingly lucky to be born in the 21st century to parents who can provide a high standard of living (by world wide standards) in the affluent west. He has soooooo much in his favour- who cares what month he was born.

no i didn't miss a month. got lucky in month 11 and am now expecting a May baby. I'm sure i had thoughts at first about 'ideal' timing, but after a few months i got impatient and didn't care!

I'm an august baby and the only down side was that everyone turned 18 before me and I couldn't legally go to the pubs and clubs with them

I have a twin brother and neither of us ever had any issues with school

No. I know people don't want their babies born on Christmas or in August but after several years of trying I would have taken any date!!

My sister's an August baby and is very gifted academically, she was lucky not to be September as she needed the challenge of being with the older kids. It depends on the child to some extent.

obviously when TTC any pregnancy is a bonus but in DD class there is a massive difference academically between the winter and summer babies - the range is huge! Both my DDs are sept and nov and whilst i have had extra nursery fees i do think they tend to do better in school - not sure it would have made me stop trying though!

July baby could come late. September baby could come early. If you have been trying for a while i don't think you should waste any months. To be fairly sure of avoiding august you would have to stop ttc for 2-3 months a year.

DD is napping on my lap. She was 6 weeks old yesterday, born 11 days late on 28th August.
After 4 years of ttc and a healthy dose of fertility treatment, do you think I care she will be the youngest in her year? Not at all.
And anyway, she's clearly going to be a genius anyway so it doesn't matter when she was born.
