New thread for some serious metalling. We are ramping up the amps and churning out some Metallica, Nirvana, ACDC, Stone Temple Pilots... with the occasional 90's rave music!! Grin

If you have miscarried and are ready to TTC again, come and join us in the WTF cycles with the odd VIP ticket to the padded cell for some serious mentalling (now known as Metalling)

leedy funny you should say your last pg was your only chance of getting pg first time - i am thinking exactly the same. i think we all get a bit irrational when ttc.i am going to be trying again at xmas and i am convinced i can't get pg in the first month as i had that last time!

welcome to the group anyway. it's not really the greatest group to have to join but everyone is lovely and it's nice to have somewhere to moan and not feel bad about it!

pebspop · 10/11/2011 12:47

Afternoon all...how's everyone feeling today?

Welcome leedy so sorry you find yourself here but this is definitely the best place to be given the circumstances!!

manda great that you got an appointment, thinking of you this afternoon!

Hope the 2ww is not driving you too insane poppy, shimmery, pebs and far

In agreement with IQ/Poppy/Manda I think that unfortunately post MC there are all manner of extra worries in TTC again and of course post BFP until 12 weeks...20 weeks and beyond! Some of these things I was still blissfully unaware of until this thread, but actually knowing more and hearing other's stories and experiences has really helped and going through the ups and downs together is an important part of the support we share. Having said that there have been times when I've found either the good news (when I was in the WTF cycle or frustrated with TTC) and the bad news a bit too much in which case I have just lurked for a while until I was ready to post again.

And this morning I made an interesting discovery which is that beany doesn't like strawberries...not even half a tiny one! As within minutes of eating it I had my head over the loo and then in mid puke session was trying to explain to DH that it was not blood and that he didn't need to call an ambulance as it was in fact strawberry poor thing had gone very very pale!! I also had a bit of an emotional melt down at one of the Directors this morning after finally getting to work (only got 3.5hrs sleep last night - stupid jetlag) and then the strawberry incident so wasn't feeling too great and then there was nowhere to park...it was the last straw and the silly director kept asking if I was ok until I finally cracked and burst into tears blubbering away about there being no parking Blush why men can't see that they really should just leave you rather than keep pushing sometimes...grrrr!!

InsomniaQueen · 10/11/2011 13:41

Just rang the maternity unit by my MIL's and had a totally different reaction. Conversation went like this:
Me: 'hi, this is MrsIQ ringing as I'm worried out of my head as I haven't felt the baby move for over a day'
Midwife: 'right well that isn't necessarily anything to worry about but I understand why you would be concerned
Me: I've tried cold/hot drinks, singing, dancing - the usual things which make her move.
Midwife: right well I'm not sure how many births we have in at the moment but don't worry we will see you today. Better to put your mind at rest rather than have you worrying yourself. Let me take your number and we will ring you back with an appointment within the hour.
Can't believe the difference!!!!!

anyhow enough of my worries - Manda thinking of you and keeping it all crossed. Just by the way my 40 year old friend had a measurement if 2.5 and ended up with a 1 in 10,000 score so try not to worry. Xxxx

leery welcome to the mosh pit - these ladies are excellent and have talked me down from many crazy notions that I have had - the most notable to date "my tummy is really hot maybe I have an infection in the fluid around the baby"......this was at 8 weeks pregnant!!!! Blush

Whoever asked when DH is back - it's 16 days (hopeful if there aren't any delays)......not that I'm counting or anything!!!! Wink

Will catch up properly later - desperately need to eat something before I collapse!!!!

BlueCrane · 10/11/2011 13:52

Grin IQ so glad you got a helpful MW on the end of the phone!!! Great that she was understanding and can hopefully see you today as well! Amazing how much difference just knowing someone cares and understands makes to the whole situation as that in itself can help ease some of the worry! Go get yourself some food and rest up! Also Grin Grin to 16 day countdown until DH back!!!

baby did the MW call you back today about getting an early scan/appointment to see someone? Hope you're doing ok...is DH away all week with this new work? How's things with the house...any movement/progress with the kitchen? Bet you're so glad to have your bedroom and bathroom done and sorted though!

Right...back to work...really should turn MN off...dread to think what IT would think if they ever ran a check on my internet usage Blush

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 10/11/2011 14:09

Good luck IQ and manda.

I have a teeny tiny bit of brown spotting today. Wonder what that's about.

babysaurus · 10/11/2011 14:55

Very quick post as my mum and grandma are here - have apt tomorrow at 9.30am for a scan. Am offically Shitting It.
Back later (possibly) as can't type much now x
ps welcome to Leedy

BlueCrane · 10/11/2011 15:03

baby so so glad you have a scan app for tomorrow! Stay calm if you can (though suspect sleep will be rather far from possible tonight!)...thinking of you lots! Hope you have a good time with your Mum and Grandma. Is your DH/someone able to go with you tomorrow?

InsomniaQueen · 10/11/2011 15:49

Just got back from my check up - everything is fine, she has a good strong
heartbeat no issues or problems with it - thank god!!!! The staff there were fab and said "were here 24 hours so if your concerned just ring and we will see you as soon as we can".......talk about post code healthcare lottery!!!!!

Can't believe it - since I've come back she has been moving around.......I think she has just been messing with me.......kids!!!!

baby fab news on the scan - I will be keeping my fingers, toes and legs crossed for you!!! Xxxx

Poppyjen · 10/11/2011 16:03

IQ great news! She is a cheeky monkey already Grin

Baby very pleased for you about scan Smile

BlueCrane · 10/11/2011 16:11

Yeah IQ fantastic news Grin and so good that they were so helpful...maybe being at your MILs has unexpected advantages!!

Wonder how manda's getting on...?

eve34 · 10/11/2011 17:42

IQ so pleased all is well. Trust me there are many moments when they drive you to distraction coming up for you.

Baby - hope the scan goes well tomorrow I am sure everything will be fine.

Hi to newbie - sorry to not name check you will get a great deal of advice and support here.

Manda - hope all is ok with you. DP and I differ on the test for downs it is such a worrying time I have everything crossed that all is well.

DP home tomorrow thank god - IQ don't know how you cope with the long spells away, I hated it when DP was in the navy and still hate it now and he only goes mon - fri.

I have a conference to do tomorrow so think of me talking to 100 delagates!!! That will keep my mind of stuff.

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2011 19:02

Alright, so it costs £180 but for the level of expertise/detailed scan, general surroundings, and complete piece of mind it couldn't have been money (or time... the time!) better spent. Plus £18 parking. Bargain! Hmm

Bottom line - all things they check (duct in liver, heart, nasal bone, nt) were perfect. Well, the nt, it was impossible to get an accurate measurement as the baby had the cord around its' neck like a necklace which was making the nt bulge one side of it and less the other... even when we scanned for an hour, then I waited in reception for an hour (drinking sugary hot chocolate in order to encourage the baby to move) and tried again. As you know my measurement was 2.0 yesterday and he averaged it out to look about 2.1 or 2.2. My bloods, apparently were, and I quote, fantastic.

My risk started at 1:138 age adjusted. After all measurements, it was adjusted to 1:2761 which is the absolute lowest they will give me as they do not lower the risk by anything more that x20. So, as he told me, it could not look any more perfect right now. (oh and crl was ANOTHER day ahead... this baby is getting bigger by the moment - I can see another whopper on the way!)

Further, he recorded the whole thing onto a dvd for me, and printed out three (different!) pictures - two of which were 3D images that he switched to momentarily to show me how the baby had the cord right where we needed to take the measurement!

They are beyond fab at the fetal medicine centre. Cannot recommend them highly enough. THe difference to how I felt yesterday compared to today is like night and day.

leedy · 10/11/2011 19:06

Glad to hear everything went well IQ, and good luck to those about to have or already had scans.

Also glad to see that this thread is also for people pregnant after a loss, I'm sure if (when! when!) I get the BFP I'll be a nervous wreck.

Poppyjen · 10/11/2011 19:07

Oh Manda I am so pleased for you Grin that is excellent news! What a wonderful place, do you mind saying where you went? Was it KCH?

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2011 19:31

It's here, poppy www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/.As you may recognise, that's him, that Greek bloke what does all that laser surgey for Twin to Twin transfusion (what, it's only me that watches those 'in the womb' documetaries whenever they're on...? For as long as I can remember!) It's the centre/foundation set up by 'That Greek Bloke' Prof. Nicolaides who pioneered the NT measurement test that is now offered everywhere. I think the Prof does consult at KCH, though.

Poppyjen · 10/11/2011 19:46

Manda Looks amazing - so wonderful to have these facilities available now. It wasn't that long ago that all of this was guess work and hope Smile

leedy · 10/11/2011 19:47

Oh, Manda, I'm delighted for you, that is fantastic news!

I had my nuchal scan with DS here in Dublin at a specialist fetal medicine centre, and it really was so reassuring having people who obviously really knew their stuff and had cutting edge equipment doing the tests.

BlueCrane · 10/11/2011 19:50

Fantastic news manda Grin

InsomniaQueen · 10/11/2011 19:58

Manda that is awesome!!!! I fully agree on the difference between private and nhs scanning - sorry I love the nhs but prenatal care has at times left a lot to be desired. I'm so looking forward to my private scan at 24 weeks and can't wait to see what the little miss looks like and enjoy DH's reaction to seeing the baby 'properly' for the first time........I think he will cry......can't wait Grin!!!!

eve I'm not massively bothered about the time away were used to it now and it is nice sometimes to have a bit of time to myself. In fairness this has been the longest time he's been gone and has been a struggle more because of my health problems and worrying about the baby. But only a few weeks to go so not so bad really!!!

blue poor you - strawberry sickness and baby sickness!!! Crying over lack of car parking spaces though - love it......I know it's cruel but it did make me smile.

Love to all!!! Xxx

PieMistress · 10/11/2011 20:14

Great news IQ & manda glad all is ok :) :) :)

I would go to the FMC in a heartbeat for my NT scan if I could but sadly it's 550 miles from me! I am trying to find one in Scotland that is reputable and also looks for the nasal bone as i'm sure they won't at my NHS scan. At 39 I think my odds on age are 1:100? How old are you manda if you don't mind me asking? I am so glad that you are feeling better, there really is no cost to peace of mind is there. xx

DP just dished up lasagne so best dash, back soon gals x

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2011 21:24

Hi everyone hope your all ok, wow this thread is moving on quickly!

Have spoken to hospital they say they will send me a consultants appointment out so I can talk to him about which stitch to use next time I'm pg, have also spoken to my mw who says to just give her a ring as soon as I have a bfp and she will refer me straight to the consultant anyway.

Soo have decided we will start ttc this time next month, I don't know if I'm excited or scared!
