CLOMID first timer....

cheekycurls · 05/09/2011 17:52

I can't seem to find any clomid threads that are active, so thought I would start this one.

Currently just finished taking my last tablet (50mg) on my first month of clomid, I'm very excited & nervous at the same time.

So many things going on in my head, no one to really talk to, symptoms are a bitch (but must mean something is working if I have symptoms yeah?!) Confused

has anyone taken clomid without being monitored? My consultant isn't going to scan me to check on follicles, I just have to go back to see her in 3 weeks (not sure what for?) Blush

Really hoping this works! Hmm

But if anyone wants to join me on a clomid ride, share info or success stories, feel free to...... Smile

mumalah · 14/11/2012 08:38

Golden I couldn't find Robitussin, so i bought a mucus cough medicine. It contains the active ingredient Guaifenesin, which seems to be the same. I've had a chesty cough for a couple of weeks now, and since taking it this, its certainly made a difference to my throat, so hope it does the same job down below !
Meluv How exciting! I,m so pleased you have ovulated, its nice to have some positive news, that this clomid is actually doing what it claims to do.
Summer I was offered the dye thing or clomid, i chose clomid, but was wondering why this isnt done before clomid is offered? I had been waiting for a year to get my hands on the clomid, so almost bit their hands off when it was offered!, but looking back maybe I should have had that test first ?
Apart from not ovulating, my 21 day blood tests are coming back low. As far as I'm aware this means low progesterone, so should i be taking something to increase it ? Might mention this when I go back for another scan next week. Also what is the HCG shot/jab ?
Summer Regarding your job dilema, I would go for it, see how it goes, you could always reduce your hours again at a later stage if you wanted too. Maybe something else to focus on would ease the stress and pressure of ttc?.
Have a good day everyone!

Daisydaydream · 14/11/2012 10:02

Mumalah My progesterone was low on my blood tests the first 2 months, so this month they offered me the jab too, which actually lets you release any eggs which are there. (The first 2 months I had viable sized folicules, but was still hoarding them.) I got my results just now, progesterone is good and I actually ovulated this month! So I guess that's what those cramps were after the jab. I would ask about it if your progesterone is low too.

Summer I second what Mumalah says. I feel like I have put off so much stuff for the last 2 years by thinking 'but what if I'm pregnant by then' (I had a lot of health problems in my first pregnancy, which are likely to return and impact a lot on day to day like) including holidays which I wish I'd now taken. Just go for it, and when you get pregnant you can work things around the baby.

Meluv congrats on the OV too. We can not symptom spot together!

Daisydaydream · 14/11/2012 10:03

Like? Life. Should have proof read.

Meluv · 14/11/2012 18:04

Rosiechoice · 14/11/2012 18:22

Hi everyone,

meluv I have very high hopes for you this month! Tiredness is a good sign too, you're accumulating quite a nice parcel of symptoms there Wink

Nice 1 summer I thought the link by hoping4baby was a bit dodgy. As for the job situation I'm pretty much in the same conundrum apart from the opposite way round, I work full time but I've set up my own wedding invitation business this year and do it evenings and weekends, I would LOVE to bite the bullet and just do my own work rather than work for the absolute Morons that I work for at the moment but I've been putting off changing anything work wise because I too say 'what if I'm pregnant, etc etc'. BUT I totally think you should go for it, am I right in thinking if you're working full time and go on maternity leave you'll get more money than if you're working part time? If so it's something to consider. If I were you I'd wait and see what the doctor recommends regarding IVF or the gonal f they should be able to give you pros and cons of both options. Sometimes going to appointments with an open mind can work best.

mumalah I've been given clomid before the die, I was told that it's the only other test they would do but I'm not showing any signs of problems with my tubes so will do it after 3 months if clomid is unsuccessful. However the nurse who did my follicle scan said that they were 'a little bit naughty' letting my have clomid before having my tubes check. By the sounds of it they just make it up as they go along.

summerintherosegarden · 14/11/2012 18:56

Hi girls, I've done as golden said and, after getting home tonight with AF on board, have mixed myself a very strong cocktail.

I know you are all right about not putting life on hold to TTC, and I'm a massive advocate of that (would never have booked a ski hol this Xmas if not!), but it's a bit more complicated as I wouldn't just be going back FT but starting a completely new job (I can't get any more hours with my current job) which I'd then feel awful about if I had to take a shit load of time off for IVF, let alone maternity leave!

However, am going to make myself a little flow chart now with all the different options for the next 5 years. Got to keep looking forward.

meluv I really hope those aren't the feelings of AF but something very different!

mumalah as Rosie says, if you haven't ov'ed, press for the HCG jab. Your progesterone will be low if you don't ov as that's what causes progesterone to climb up (it's actually released from what is left of the follicle after the egg has been laid!) Hopefully the jab will work as well for you as it did for Rosie!

Rosie difficult one with your job situation - is the temptation to stay to get the maternity leave benefits? Because otherwise, if I were you, if money is okay, I'd totally bite the bullet and go with your business. Whether you get pregnant or not, you'll be working from home, if you do get pregnant, that's great because you're at home, and if you don't get pregnant, you'll just be able to go to work in your slippers. Win win!

So funny/annoying about the clinics' different approaches to the dye/clomid. To me it makes complete sense to have the dye first - what the hell's the point of taking clomid if your tubes are a complete mess?! But my clinic never does the dye first - and IIRC the NICE guidelines suggest dye after clomid too. Confused

Rosiechoice · 14/11/2012 19:26

meluv sorry I didn't see your af post before I posted mine, I do hope it's not af pains but as summer says 'something very different'. I love your positive outlook though, my DH keeps telling me not to pin my hopes on a BFP but that ovulation would be great and the first step - I do agree! I've got my cd21 bloods tomorrow so hopefully I'll know more next week.

Yuuuum a strong cocktail sounds niiiiice! You do right summer enjoy Wine
I do understand why you're finding the work situation tough, I'm always tempted to get a different job or get a part time job (so that I still have an income whilst
doing my own thing) but I'm reluctant to for the same reasons, time off, maternity leave etc, BUT you should think of what's best for you and what you want.
You've got it in 1, I'm pretty much holding out where I am in the hopes that I get pregnant and get maternity benefits and then not go back. In away it's good that it has taken so long ttc because I've managed to build up the business a bit but would swap it all for a BFP. Ooooow, work in my slippers - I wish!

Oh yes, dye 1st does make much more sense and I expected to be referred for that before getting clomid but wasn't going to argue with them when they offered me clomid Smile

npg1 · 14/11/2012 21:33

Hi well tonight I think I am getting the start of af. I am waiting to take clomid. Doc said to take on day 2. When do I take it if I come on tonight and when do you class af as cd1 as it normally starts browny x

Rosiechoice · 14/11/2012 21:47

npg1 I started my af in the evening so I counted the following day as day 1, I was told to count my 1st full, day of af as day 1, then take clomid on day 2. I thought it was a goods thing starting in the evening so then took clomid at night hoping the side effects weren't too bad in the day. Hope it helps

npg1 · 14/11/2012 21:58

Thank you thats very helpful. Fingers crossed its the start. X

Meluv · 14/11/2012 22:24

Hi Ladies
Thank you for making me feel welcome
Sorry i fell asleep writing message to you all yesterday i have been very tired, unwell, sore boobs, af cramps, lower bk pain, pee loads, feeling sick & bloated. what a bitch every month since clomid i get pg symptom just to piss me off & send me crazy every month lol Af due sunday i can feel it coming sadly hope not but it will come always does with loads of pain its ok im use to it now anyway enough moaning for now lol you can tell im due lol.

Rosie - Thank u for lovely message hun i use to be strong women but now im a emotional wreck since clomid lol im so glad you got positive have sex it could be you this month fingers cross . On my 2nd cycle of clomid i had a scan & i had 8 eggs & few cysts that they could see could be more i was told by my conaultant not to have sex coz i would end up with 6 babies or more which would end in mc & i could die or nearly die & loose my womb my dh was so scared he took dr orders & would not have sex for a week, i would of took the risk, my ovaries over simulated so dr said no sex, lowered dose & rest so i dont do damage to my ovaries as they were so large you could see them sticking out though my skin, painful, pulling & very uncomfortable walking or bending longest month ever.

Meluv - Thank you for lovely message, great news u ovulated i hope u are pg fingers crossed hun & hugs. when is your af due?

Golden - Thank you for lovely message sorry hun i don't know if i have old eggs i just think so as everything is ok but eggs don't want to stick, sorry dont know blood results my conaultant just said all bloods are great & i didnt really know about scores as it was all new to me so i didnt ask, just been suffering in silents for 5months yes you can have ivf with endo but i would have to pay as i already have dd which i understand as its for women with no kids which it should be, i think i should pay but just dont have money now. few weeks see my consaultant to see whats next for me. so happy i found this thread it has helped thank you all.

Summer - Thank you for lovely message. so sorry clomid has not worked for you hun. Go for the lap hun so you can found out whats going on & get it sorted out if something is wrong then have jabs you will soon get pg after. i had lap with dye test b4 i had dd & found out i had endo & cysts my tubes were fine at that point then i had injections & when stopped i fell pg with dd 6 now.
Then last nov i had another lap with dye & Hysteroscopy (camera in womb) to remove endo & see whats wrong & they found blocked tube so they unblocked it & done another dye test both tubes are fine & working, cyst removed & scar tissue removed a good old clean up. Im glad i had it done coz they found blocked tube & sorted it out & i have a heart shape womb ( yes heart shape from consultants mouth which is ok just problems carrying baby in my back) Good luck hun enjoy your life to the max while you are not ttc drink & eat loads who knows you could end up pg on holiday while you all relaxed having fun & not trying. glad you have a holiday to look forward to just enjoy yourself & party.

I hope we all get pg soon. Big Hugs ladies
Take care xx

Christelle2207 · 15/11/2012 11:23

hopefully so sorry you've had such a rough time.

npg you shouldn't count any "spotting" days, cd 1 is the first proper day, but as mentioned if she doesn't arrive till the evening, the following day is cd1.
I have taken it last thing at night and didn't notice any side effects other than a breakout of spots towards the end of the 5 days!

daisy fab news!

rosie I would suggest you go for the HSG sooner rather than later. It is the only way of telling if you have tubes issue, of course you probably don't but the clomid is wasted if you are blocked also the test itself is fine - in and out within the hour. more to the point I have read loads about people getting pg soon after because the test itself flushes out minor blockages.

i think I may have ovulated yesterday which is quite exciting, it was cd 13 - is this a bit early? I had cramps and today a temp rise (though not a big one, in the past though it has risen gradually). More dtd later though, just in case.
TMI warning - since yesterday though I've been really constipated. Gross I know! Sorry. Anyone had this side effect whilst on clomid? I have googled and it happens but not when you've come off it as I gather. I've only had this very very rarely, can't remember the last time. Yuk. Lots of Bran Flakes.

hope everyone else is having a reasonable day
x

mumalah · 15/11/2012 11:40

Christelle2207 · 15/11/2012 16:59

meluv
clomid- if working properly- should help increase progesterone and prog. can cause constipation apparently so we should (?)see this as a good sign! this is what dr google says anyway.
when are you testing?

Annalou84 · 15/11/2012 17:37

meluv bloody hell woman you need to be carful!!!!!! Hope your ok??? Thats good that your pains have stopped, i dont know how you havent tested by now you are a good girl lol.

Meluv · 15/11/2012 17:46

I said I was not going to test for two weeks as I have heard clomid can give u longer cycles anyway I have been realy quite relaxed this month with the news I got on my scan saying there were no follies big enough they wud consider so I just carried in with the bed rocking every other day anyway but never in a million years did I think I'd ovulate hence my excitement when my bloods came back from cd27 telling me I did .. I have never held much hope for this month an I just want to carry in thinking like that in my head don't want to think every lil sighn am pregnant am pregnant wud just rather leave it an carry on as I have Hun then if af comes I won't be realy disappointed an if it doesn't an I get a BFP I will be over the moon ... We're are u up to Hun what cd are u on now x

Meluv · 15/11/2012 17:53

Annalou84 · 15/11/2012 18:11

My cycle stayed the same thank god

Annalou84 · 15/11/2012 18:16

One thing I'm worried about if I'm not getting monitored then if I release loads of eggs then that's not good and slightly worrying, but I would still probs go ahead even if they warn me lol

Meluv · 15/11/2012 18:39

I no were your coming from being worried Hun with not getting monitored can you not afford to go private Hun even though u shud not have too it's a disgrace professionals bang on about don't buy clomid off the Internet an just take them u need monitoring cause it can be dangerous if u produce to many eggs what bullshit Hun cause there is a few who have just been giving so many months worth an told go away and bed rock see u in x amount of months grr makes me so angry Hun an I agree I wud prob bed rock too if was told don't to many eggs x

npg1 · 15/11/2012 18:49

Evening everyone. Well I thought af was coming but today I have only had light spotting and nothing more so bit confused as to whats going on. I got a bfn last sat after about 9dpo according to fertility friend. Guess I will see how I go for next couple days. Meluv hope ur ok

summerintherosegarden · 15/11/2012 19:56

Oh meluv I'm so sorry you've had another fall, to be careful sweetheart, there might be something very precious on board! You're being very sensible about not getting hopes up and taking things as they come, but getting to CD33 with no AF is still pretty good :)

Annalou it's so gutting when we get those pregnancy announcements isn't it? Especially the happy mistake ones. I really hope this drug works for you and you're the one posting scan pics on FB soon!

npg think you are right, see how the next couple of days go. Maybe test again this sat?

Big love to all the girls xx
