CLOMID first timer....

I can't seem to find any clomid threads that are active, so thought I would start this one.

Currently just finished taking my last tablet (50mg) on my first month of clomid, I'm very excited & nervous at the same time.

So many things going on in my head, no one to really talk to, symptoms are a bitch (but must mean something is working if I have symptoms yeah?!)

has anyone taken clomid without being monitored? My consultant isn't going to scan me to check on follicles, I just have to go back to see her in 3 weeks (not sure what for?)

Really hoping this works!

But if anyone wants to join me on a clomid ride, share info or success stories, feel free to......

Hi everyone, I haven't said anything on this thread since my scan on cd12. Fantastic news,Good luck golden !. I have been to a cd21 scan this morning, the follicle seen on cd12 on one of my ovaries has been released! And the ovary which was hiding behind my bowel?, on last scan has released one too ! My consultant said my body is reacting well with the clomid, which is reassuring ! I've had a cd21 blood test to see if I have actually ovulated, if I have, but does not result in pregnancy, I need to start second cycle. If I haven't, my dose is being increased to 100mg for 2nd cycle. I'm desperate to start testing, but not sure when the earliest I can?Can anyone answer that please ? My cycles are usually 28, but last two have been 31 ? Thank you !

Mumala, how exciting! I would have thought a scan today would show whether those follicles had released eggs or not? Can you help me understand better? Please don't test too early, you'll only torture yourself. Remember that Clomid can lengthen your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period) which makes lots of women excited when their period doesn't come when expected. Try holding off util 28 days have passed. Much luck! Oooh, would you be the first amongst us to be testing, then? I'm on CD16.

I think some of the side effects are kicking in I cried on the way to work this morn for no apparent reason and I've still got the cramping which I hope is a good sign im currently on cd9. It's such a waiting game I'm literally counting down the days I know I should be more patient but can't help myself, I don't feel stressed or pressured I'm just excited to be that step closer to having our own little family :)

Well girls had my scan an things were not good there was nothing going on in my ovaries expect the sight of another big cyst on the right again I had one removed last year from there ... So what they are saying is I now have to have bloods done day 21 an day 29 to check my Prost levels they are not sure if they have scanned me to early I realy hope this is the case ... If this is not the case I will have to stop clomid for next month an be scanned to check the cyst he is hoping that it goes down or it don't grow any bigger I may have to have my right ovary removed am totally an utterly gutted but I am not falling on the first hurdle I will carry on ... Please help me girls I need some cheap but good OPK sticks so I can test every day twice a day if I need to .... Don't let this get use down girls remember that each of us r different this is me not use big hugs to u all ... I no I may sound dumb but a lot of girls being treated with clomid have pcos is that not cyst on the ovaries please help me an correct me if am wrong ... He looked at all my cycles an said looking at them tells me the answer is clomid well y is he stopping me because of a cyst 5cm by 3cm in size am so confused an feel so deflated help me out girls what do use think x

Meluv don't let the news about the cyst found on your ovaries get you down. It might just be that Clomid/follicle stimulating hormones aren't suitable for you, but that other fertility treatments are the way to go.

Talk to them at your clinic about your options in case Clomid can't be used, but don't think ahead too far. You may still ovulate in the coming months from the other ovary. Don't lose hope

Thanks Molotovbomb it's just a first hurdle I no I am not giving up that easy I don't no weather they scanned me to early as my cycles range from 29 days to 42 days most being 34 an 32 in this past year ... What I want to no is if they have scanned me to early should there be nothing there visible anyway or no matter how early they scanned me shud there be something there at least ... To make it easier can a follicle still start to form now or shud there be something visable at least does anyone no x

I'm really sorry meluv but chin up its just a little set back but you still don't know for sure if this cycle hasn't worked, so there is still hope!!!!!! I have pcos syndrome so that means I have all the side effect but no cysts (as in loads of cluster of cyst which is the other form of pcos if that makes sence). I have one that is about 3cm but when I had my scan they said it was ok'but that was last year so who knows now.

What ever you dont give up hope or let it get you down, that's the worst thing you could do hun. We are all here for you xxxx

Meluv, DON'T PANIC!! Those thick bastards have scanned you far too early (by at least eight days in my humble opinion). At this much too early stage there would be nothing to see whatsoever, to answer your question about whether there should be at least something there on the screen. The answer is 'no'. There is no reason whatsoever to believe this drug won't work for you, Meluv. Buy One Step OPKs from Amazon - I got 30 for six or seven quid.

Why might they take you off Clomid? I did some research and found this information for you:

'Clomid has two clearly recognized treatment risks; multiple pregnancy and ovarian cyst formation. Approximately 8% of Clomid conceptions are multiple - twins or more. This may occur even on the lowest dose of Clomid. Approximately 10% of women who are treated with Clomid will develop an ovarian cyst. For this reason, a pelvic examination is performed at the end of each treatment cycle, around the time of the menstrual period. If an ovarian cyst is detected, Clomid treatment is withheld during the following cycle. The ovarian cyst usually resolves without further treatment.'

See? They simply don't want to encourage more cysts to form on your ovary. Listen, DO NOT PANIC about losing an ovary yet. They have only suggested it may happen. Millions of women get preggo with one ovary and blocked fallopian tubes and cysts. Remember, my scan showed absolutely fuck all happening on my left ovary, but....TWO follicles had developed on the right. Your body will easily compensate for a missing or crap ovary, don't you worry. But, that hurdle can be crossed in the future. For now, be patient and expect to only get a positive OPK around CD18-21 x

Meluv, if your cycle averages 34 days and your luteal phase is 14 days I would put ovulation at around CD20 with a positive OPK showing at CD18 or 19. I have looked but cannot find any info on the speed at which follicles appear each cycle. Do you have a number to ring the person who sanned you today? Remember you are paying alot of money for their help and you have a right to ask these questions. Be bold x

Well, today I came back from the dentist minus one tooth and having had root canal and a filling. I swear I love that dentist's chair, so relaxing. I love the fact that it is impossible for me to speak and no-one is asking me tedious questions about my life and pretending to be interested in my day-to-day existence, a la the hairdresser. I also find it entirely arousing having my beautiful Asian dentist staring into my mouth for an hour. I fantasise that he has an enormous erection from being in such intimate proximity and that he wants to rip my clothes off and give me a different kind of drilling

goldenSorry, I meant both follicles had released an egg each. My consultant described the follicles look like they've crumpled, when a egg has been released.

Does that make sense ? I will try to resist testing till at least day 28. I get results of day21 bloods weds next week, so hopefully things will be clearer then.

I think I said in my last post I wasn't going to use opk's, as the expensive clear blues came up with a smiley face every month, but blood tests revealed I was not ovulating on my own, and the cheap ones didnt come up with anything at all - not even a control line ! HOWEVER !, curiosity got the better of me, and after reading everyones posts on here, I thought it would give it a go! Well I don't know if it is the clomid or not, but i actually had some lines come up this time !
Meluv Hi, I was told I had a cyst in August(my 1st scan before starting clomid) I was so disappointed as I had to wait 10 months before clomid was considered, and then to be told to wait another 6 weeks to be re-scanned to see if it had grown or dispersed. When I went for my next scan the cyst was still there, so they decided it must have been a follicle, so they do often get it wrong. I also know a woman who had a cyst while she was pregnant, both her and baby were fine.:) I think i have read somewhere that follicles can grow by 2mm per day ?

Wow, gone are the days when you took your sample to a chemist and pay a £4.00, return in an hour for the result!

Golden thank u so much I just found some info that they can't see ya folicles till they r 7 to 8 mm an that they grow about 2 mm every day so if that is the case from now till day 20 my folicle cud start to grow an be around 18mm in size then an if it is true they can't see them till they r 7/8 mm in size mine wud not be visable today to them on my scan Hun ... I am going to ring them tomorrow an ask for another scan an a few questions I want to ask thanks for ya help gold big hugs ... Mumala thanks for that I am just going to carry on as I wud of done without that new yesterday I am going to have it out with them as to y I was not scanned before clomid that wud of put en end to all this an they wud of known if it was a cyst already there or if the clomid has caused it frustrating as it is its out of my hands and what will be lies in the hands of god I'd say I have never done anyone any harm only ever done good so I hope he is good to me in answering my prayers alls I can do is keep on trying xxx

Mumalah, it is true that an LH surge does not guarantee ovulation will occur, which is very frustrating when you've had a smiley face. I have been charting my temperatures for eight months now and every month shows I am ovulating, yet my day 21 progesterone test showed only an 18.5 score, which the consultant said indicated I hadn't ovulated! That's why I'm on Clomid. Good luck with your testing! x

Just spoke to fertility nurse an they agree that may of been scanned to early an that's y they show no folicles an they don't consider them as being there if they r under 10mm in size I feel so much happier now I no that it all makes since to my ov dates like u said golden I reason day 20 to 22 so I am going to carry on an hope for the best this month ... This is the way they get a base line knowledge on your first month to c what dates u ovulate they go offtext book 28 day cycles basically ya first round of clomid is them getting to find out more about your cycle an ov days that is y they say most first rounds don't work I no there are many it has worked for am made up for use and good luck an lots of luv .... Meluv, I am so proud of you for pushing your fertility nurse for innformation. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Much, much luck to you this month. I agree that the first cycle is all like a rehearsal - let's not get our hopes up x
Thermometers: go on Amazon and put in the search engine 'basal body temperature thermometer'. Buy one which is celcius and not fahrenheit - should be about a fiver (sometimes there's an offer on with free OPKs etc so look carefully). You MUST take your temperature at the EXACT same time each morning, Meluv, I can't stress how supremely important this is (otherwise you'll mess up your stats). You must set your alarm clock for the same time each and every morning and take your temp as soon as you open your eyes and before you put a toe out of bed. The body needs a minimum of three hours of sleep/complete rest in bed in order to give an accurate reading. Try to keep your room/blankets etc at the same temperature each night so you'rre not messing with the readings.

Finally...join fertility friend so you can plot your temperatures on their charts - it's an education. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! [hwink]
