CLOMID first timer....

cheekycurls · 05/09/2011 17:52

I can't seem to find any clomid threads that are active, so thought I would start this one.

Currently just finished taking my last tablet (50mg) on my first month of clomid, I'm very excited & nervous at the same time.

So many things going on in my head, no one to really talk to, symptoms are a bitch (but must mean something is working if I have symptoms yeah?!) Confused

has anyone taken clomid without being monitored? My consultant isn't going to scan me to check on follicles, I just have to go back to see her in 3 weeks (not sure what for?) Blush

Really hoping this works! Hmm

But if anyone wants to join me on a clomid ride, share info or success stories, feel free to...... Smile

Golden thank you for giving some perspective. I don't think you come across as a bossy know it all. You are correct. it's easy to get carried away and become fearful and worried about the process. I think we all put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make it work immediately. I know I have been doing that. and you're totally right: let's relax and take it one step at a time.
Thank you also for clarifying re OPK. This makes sense and helps.
I am a little frustrated with the fact that there seem to be many things that my doctor didn't inform me of. She's supposed to be a specialist, but I think she was too busy and running behind to take the time to fully explain everything. I have had to learn all that online from websites and from all you lovely ladies. I took a look at the book you recommended and I think I might order it. I also like the website you recommended to Wish2. Good night and happy babymaking to you Wink.

MolotovBomb · 23/10/2012 10:42

I just wanted to share with you ladies, as I felt so sad and alone when having treatment with Clomid.

We conceived DD1 naturally after TTC for about 9 months. We wanted to get pregnant again about 6 months after DD1s birth. But, with DD2, it wasn't as easy (and it wasn't easy first time!)

Basically, after we'd been trying for a year, we went to see our GP who referred us to a fertility specialist. After tests (and that awful HSG for me) we were 'unexplained infertility'. After 17 months of TTC and no baby, I was given Clomid. It made me produce large, ripe eggs but I still wasn't pg after 5 cycles (22 months later).

We went on a little holiday as I was pretty much near the point of having some sort of breakdown ... I think I may well have actually gone through some sort of emotional breakdown, you know ... Anyway - IT FINALLY HAPPENED! WE CONCEIVED IN JULY 2011!! On tr last cycle of lovely Clomid Grin

Our beautiful DD2 was born in April this year and has just turned 6mo.

I wish all of you good luck and if I can help you by answering any questions, I'd be happy to :) xxx

Jessicatodd12 · 23/10/2012 12:00

Hello everyone and meluv no they are not scanning or blood testing and to quote my doctor there is no need for that as your young take these (clomid) and come back in 6 months. She was quite rude the 2 other times we seen our fertility doc. I no im not as old as some the women there but Iv still got a fertility issue where having tests they found this and pointed them out and I feel really down about the fact that i cannot get pregnant with a little help, grrr bloody woman. But anyways im on day 7 now taken all my tablets and feeling really bloated and full is that normal is that a good sign of things to come xx

goldengirl71 · 23/10/2012 12:40

Wannabemom, you're welcome. I'm lucky in that I have the kind of hardness of heart where I will not take no for an answer and will not be fobbed off by health professionals. Yesterday I absolutely bombarded my consultant with questions with no thought of her other clients. Fuck them - this is my time with the doctor and I am entitled to leave her office with all my questions answered. I am also on an over-40s thread on mumsnet and have been since last Christmas. Being older, we have all suffered losses and shattered dreams and I guess I am a little wiser for all the experienes which have been shared over there this past year. Please buy Zita's book - it helped me gain a little control over my mind, expectations and body.

Meluv, do not use first morning urine to do your OPK test. Because LH is naturally produced in our bodies overnight there is a high probability that you will get a false positive. In structions suggest testing at around 3/4pm after you have not taken in any liquids for at least two hours. This way your urine will be nice and undiluted and will give a valid result. You can test up to 8pm at night (and as early as 12 noon).

Well, DP spent two hours on the badminton court last night and came home energised and 'high'. He didn't feel he needed a Viagra and so we went ahead without it...and had wonderful horny sex! I'm so proud of my man! He was so confident...makes me wonder even more about the merits of exercise, especially the competetive stuff. When he's won a match he comes home feeling great about himself, it's so lovely to see. So, the all-important session will be tonight; I'm CD15 and should be ovulating between midnight and tomorrow morning according to my injection Smile

goldengirl71 · 23/10/2012 12:44

Molotov, thank you for your happy share. Great story! Congratulations Thanks

Jessicatodd12 · 23/10/2012 14:45

Meluv · 23/10/2012 16:02

Thanks golden I will try that tomorrow as my one today with my first morning pee was a big fat NO I have got the clear blue tests Hun are they any good ? I can't wait for my scan now but I have a feeling that its not going to work for me Sad but I am hoping to be proved wrong ... This is very stressful an can make u down but am trying not to let it am trying so hard to just get on with life as normal ...jessicatodd I never got any bloated feelings but we r all different Hun and u r so right your doctor was rude an so wrong today that to u Hun it don't matter what your age is if u r still having problems with fertility u shud be treated the same as others I wud not take that an I wud be right back for a second opinion Hun it is your right to ask for that if u r not happy please do it Hun xxx

goldengirl71 · 23/10/2012 17:28

Jess, I know what it's like to be 'spoken down to' by health professionals because of your age (I am 41). As a recovering alcoholic I know what it is to be patronised, ignored and written off (I've been sober for two years now after 9 months in rehab). If you're not happy with the professionalism of your GP/consultant you need to speak up LOUD AND CLEAR. Don't let anybody treat you like a statistic or a nobody. Keep reading the book - glad you're feeling educated x

Meluv, sweetie, be patient with the OPKs. Remember I only got my positive OPK on the day of my scan (CD14). Why are you already feeling defeated this month? You have as much chance as me or anyone else on here of ovulating this month. Keep the faith. Clearblue OPKs? Never tried them. Are they the smiley faces? x

Meluv · 23/10/2012 18:00

golden wow I luv to hear success stories like that u r a star my lovely am so so happy for you big massive hugs .... I no what u r saying don't feel defeated already I have as much chance as anybody else an u r right I do an I must keep thinking that Smile an yes clear blue r the smiley face ones expensive too £20 for 7 Shock ha ha so proud of u golden xxx

Wish2bamum · 23/10/2012 18:21

Well ladies I'm extremely emotional today and woken up with sore boobs. This is usually a sign that I've ovulated for me so fingers crossed the clomid has worked this month. Guess I got to wait 10 days or so to see if period arrives or positive test.

Jessica I was really bloated until day 18 of my cycle.

Annalou84 · 23/10/2012 18:49

Evening all,

I'm only on cd7 :( I'm getting extremely impatient. I've got period pain like cramps I'm hoping this is a sign off the clomid getting to work. It's such a long waiting game :(

Annalou84 · 23/10/2012 18:50

Meluv try first respond you get 30 tests for £25 at boots and currently got 3 for 2

Wish2bamum · 23/10/2012 20:21

Evening Anna try not to get too impatient. I'm trying to look at it now as a journey. I got cramping from just finishing tablets to a couple of days ago and im cycle day 23 but it looks like I've just ovulated so see as a positive for clomid working.
I know how hard it is every month that disappointment or willing the end of the month to see if you get a positive test. Focus your mind on something else. I've just joined gym to keep myself occupied after work :)

goldengirl71 · 23/10/2012 21:08

Great advice, Wish. CD7 is very early days, Anna, love. Be kind to yourself. Let the Clomid do its job and remember this isn't a race or a competition. You are literally only days behaind me and pretty soon there will be women coming on here who are brand new to all this and they will need your advice and words of comfort. What will you tell them? Tell yourself the same kind and reassuring things that you will be saying to them x

Meluv, thank you for your kind words - I think you sound like a lovely girl with a big heart. Keep your chin up. Don't you have your scan tomorrow? Do let us know how it goes and I'll be crossing my fingers you are pleasantly surprised and reassured. Remember to ask as many questions as you like - these people are paid lots of money to look after women like us and we deserve the best x

I think we should all see this first attempt with Clomid as a 'rehearsal' as we watch our bodies and our cycles to see how we react and feel. We are lucky to be here - we all have the same chance to realise our dream of having a baby.

P.s...I buy my 'One Step' OPKs from Amazon - £6 for 30! Meluv, lots of people love the Clearblue smileys. Remember to stay off the liquids for at least two hours before you test. You don't want to be diluting your piss!!

goldengirl71 · 23/10/2012 21:10

Meluv, just remembered your scan is on Thursday. What cycle day will that be for you? CD11?

Meluv · 23/10/2012 23:36

Elo lovelies thanks for the advice on the OPK annalou I had them kind of cramps an am still getting them now Hun an am CD 10 today maybe it's the tabs doing there work Hun .... golden that girl u described me as is what many others describe me like I just see it as being normal it don't take much to be caring nice and give people your time Hun does it Smile ... I will look on line at the cheaper test weather it's a line or a smiley face telling u ya got a fat Lh surge it don't matter as long as its a YES an that puts a smile on my face then ha ha,am having my scan Thursday Hun yes an that will be CD 12 for me I don't no if that be too early though as my monthly cycles are around 34 days what do u think Hun an ay ps I will not dilute my piss Grin

goldengirl71 · 24/10/2012 09:20

Meluv, CD12 is quite early for a 34 day cycle, no? What I mean is, please don't be disheartened if, tomorrow, there is no immediate sign of ovulation. A 34 day cycle would indicate to me that you would normally ovulate around CD20 (that's accounting for a 14 day luteal phase. The luteal phase is the length of time from ovulation to your period). In this case, I wouldn't expect to see a positive smiley on your Clearblue until around CD18. So...don't be defeated tomorrow if she tells you that you're not showing signs yet of ovulation. It WILL happen for you, Meluv.

Well, I'm 1DPO! According to my temperature and chart I ovulated yesterday. Just a loooooong, frustrating wait now to see if I'm preggo. MUST. BE. PATIENT!

goldengirl71 · 24/10/2012 09:29

Wish2bamum, here are some abbreviations and what they mean:
CD calendar day, DPO days past ovulation, DC darling child, DH/DP darling husband/partner, AF Aunt Flo (period), AIBU am I being unreasonable? DTD did the deed (sex), BD baby dance (sex), IYKWIM if you know what I mean, WTF what the fuck?! MC miscarriage, MMC missed miscarriage, IMO in my opinion.

Hope this helps!

Meluv · 24/10/2012 09:53

golden I new this an yet u have told them I am not the average 28 day am fuming now Angry when I go tomorrow I am going to have all my cycle leghns written down for them an they will sit an look at them with me an if nothing works this month they will go off my cycle for next month I have paid a lot of money for this an they can do what is right by me not what they wish to do .... Wish u cud cum with me golden x

goldengirl71 · 24/10/2012 10:16

Meluv, is it possible that Clomid will make you ovulate on a more 'normal' day, around CD14? Maybe. It is possible these Clomid 'experts' know what they're doing and the best time to scan us. You are right, though, to sit them down tomorrow if you are disappointed with their assumptions and educate them about your cycles. Bastards. Let's wait to see what tomorrow brings. What time is your scan, lovey?

goldengirl71 · 24/10/2012 10:19

P.s...I would love to come with you - hell hath no fury like me when 'professionals' start pissing around and assuming they know it all. I'll be with you in spirit, though, Meluv. Try to jot a few questions/demands down on paper to be sure in your mind what you want to ask/say when you're there. This way you won't be tongue-tied or forget x

goldengirl71 · 24/10/2012 11:52

Meluv, don't forget to ask about the injection like I had to force the eggs out.

Meluv · 24/10/2012 12:18

golden I will do a list Hun of what I want to ask an I will also ask about the injection my scan is at 9:20 am tomorrow can't wait for it to be honest x

Annalou84 · 24/10/2012 15:49

Good luck meluv xxx
