CLOMID first timer....

I can't seem to find any clomid threads that are active, so thought I would start this one.

Currently just finished taking my last tablet (50mg) on my first month of clomid, I'm very excited & nervous at the same time.

So many things going on in my head, no one to really talk to, symptoms are a bitch (but must mean something is working if I have symptoms yeah?!) Confused

has anyone taken clomid without being monitored? My consultant isn't going to scan me to check on follicles, I just have to go back to see her in 3 weeks (not sure what for?) Blush

Really hoping this works! Hmm

But if anyone wants to join me on a clomid ride, share info or success stories, feel free to...... Smile

hi!

im on the first cycle of clomid. i am on day 12th day. i've had my ultrasound today to check the size of my follicles. the biggest size of the follicle is 16mm. but this afternoon i had a clear discharge with blood on it.. is it because of the clomid? is it natural?

BeckyBoo31 · 12/09/2012 11:57

I have had one failed attempt of IVF (this June), everything went to plan, sperm/eggs fine but implantation wasnt :( As they were unable to freeze my other eggs due to them not be of sufficient size i have to start the whole process again and have to wait til June 2013!! NHS waiting list. It wasnt offered to me but i asked the consultant if i could be prescribed Clomid which she agreed. Im due to start it on my October Period. Have been reading the success rates and hope im lucky! as its been 5 years of trying and wanting. How has everyone felt when taking it? symptoms etc.... please let me know you success stories and give me some hope!! xxx

Hello, I'm 41 and trying for my first baby (had a MMC in March this year and nothing since). Can/will my GP prescribe Clomid even though I'm ovulating each month (I'm charting)? If he won't prescribe it I'm willing to buy it over the internet. Any opinions about this?

Niceanimal · 24/09/2012 18:51

So glad to see a Clomid thread. My first tablet day (50mg) & first day on Mumsnet so am v nervous. TTC for 2 years (trying to keep it natural but now resorting to chemicals). PCOS.

Partly scared by new set of worries (blurred vision etc) & partly excited in case it works.

Do other Clomid users recommend using an ovulation monitor too or is that OTT with Clomid? Trying not to get obessive...

Good luck first-timers. X

goldengirl71 · 02/10/2012 12:49

Niceanimal, best of luck. I know nothing about all of this, as you can tell from my last post. Did your GP prescribe your Clomid? Blurred vision sounds scary - is that a normal side effect?

loveone · 03/10/2012 22:06

hi..so happy that i found this page, it is good to read some of the positive outcomes. im on 50 mg and im 3 days late took 2 test but negative, i am having very bad cramps and brest are very tender...Sad trying to stay positive but i dont want to get my hopes up.

Waitingjellytot · 03/10/2012 22:13

Hi all, nicesnimal I would sugguest an ovulation test kit, I think it'll boost your chances :) the clearblue tests have little smiley faces when the time is right. Any little things like that must be helpful! Going through 1st month of chlomid myself, feels a bit uncomfortable but will be totally worth it, I hope!

Youio · 04/10/2012 13:26

Hi ladies,
I''m a newbie here, so good to read your story. This is the first month I used clomid, doctor prescribed me low dose clomid 25 gr day 3-7. Got positive on my ovulation kit on day 17, now is day 21 and still waiting. I had miscarriage exactly a year ago, been trying since them but no luck, so doctor suggested me to use clomid. Finger crossed!

The side effect wasn't too bad, the worst was when ovulating i've gor a ba cramping that made ma can't stand straight :( but it was only last for few hours.

All the best for you all

MyDreamDays · 11/10/2012 14:07

Hi everyone!! Im so happy to have found your discussions about ttc and chlomid. Ive been trying for 2 years with no success, i have 2 kids, 17 and 14yr old, to a previous partner. my partner doesnt have any so its been so stressful. Im starting my 2nd month of 50mg tomorrow, so gutted when they came today (after being a few days late which is rare for me). I think my partner is more down than me, after every possibe test, we're healthy but its just not happening. We cant try any more than we are!! So horrible watching all your friends fall, feels like everyone finds it easy but me Sad but this site has perked me up a bit....im not alone!!

I was monitered via scan and blood test. Scan went great, got told to go home and be good to my man as i was due to ovulate. We did, bloods came back to show id ovulated so we were buzzing. But still no joy! Side affects are awful, bad headaches and lots of nausea. but no pain no gain eh? The stress on a relationship is intense when your trying, he is thinking he may have to accept never having any, making me feel awful. At times i feel a younger girl could give him his dream. Its so hard not to blame yourself, to keep going, and to stay positive!!

Reading your stories has been great, im not a failure for it not working first shot. I know a few who've taken it and they fell first month, so i was sooooo down today when i hadnt. But i can see that some people fall on month 2 or 3, or have to be put on higher dosage. So all is not lost Smile

good luck everyone, may your dreams come true xxx

goldengirl71 · 11/10/2012 15:22

Hello again. Consultant yesterday prescribed 50mg Clomid which I started last night (CD2). She said my day 22 blood test had shown a score of 18.5 for progesterone which indicated I had not ovulated. I cannot believe this to be true as I chart my temperatures and they show i ovulate every month! Has anyone else been told they're not ovulating when charting tells them different?

Annalou84 · 11/10/2012 21:02

Hi all!!! I'm a first timer on here so please bare with me. We have been ttc for 7 months I have pcos syndrome, the doctor said it was unlikely that we would conceive naturally so we tried metformin for 3 months but I just couldn't get on with it, and the side effects were horrible. Today we were given clomid 50mg my first tablet will be in 8 days. We were told that we would only get 2 attempts and if it doesn't work this month then the doctor will up the dose.

I'm a little confused as people seem to have had more cycles of clomid from their gps and they go for scans and blood tests. My gp said we need to buy an ovulation kit to monitor it ourselves. If the clomid doesn't work then we will be referred to a specialist but that could be months or even years. so I'm kind of hoping this will work.

Has anyone had success with 2 cycles and also were the offered more? Any tips and advice will be much appreciated.

Anyway good luck everyone x

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 10:03

Annalou, I am also new to Clomid but from what I have gathered not everyone is monitored with scans after being prescribed this drug. PCOS would suggest that you struggle to ovulate more than most. Clomid will (hopefully) kick-start your follicles to produce an egg. I would be most upset if my consultant had not arranged for me to have a scan on day 14 to see if ovulation is imminent. I'm sorry yours hasn't offered you one, however, there are others on this thread in the same boat as you.

May I suggest you take charge of your own ovulation-tracking? Join fertilityfriend.com. It is excellent for charting your temperature each day (you will need to buy a digital basal body thermometer from Amaon for a couple of quid) and indicating if and when you have ovulated. Don't be put off by people saying it is a faff. It isn't. It is an education and to be honest, I can NOT understand why everyone on here does not do it. Good luck.

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 12:02

I have read on Mumsnet that to increase the chat on a thread and to encourage more members you need to 'bump' up the postings so it appears to outsiders as an active thread.

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 12:03

My arm is getting tired...anyone else willing to try? We need more members so we can encourage one another and educate ourselves Smile

Annalou84 · 12/10/2012 20:07

Thanks for the info Goldengirl71 I will have a look at the website, anything to increase my chances go getting pregnant. As I said we have 2 attempts on the primary care so I need to be fully educated.

Has anyone gone private to buy clomid? As my understanding is that you can have more than 2 cycles on clomid, I just think its down to the lottery postcode.

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 20:36

Annalou, there is nothing wrong with your doctor giving you a limited period only on 50mg. It is the minimum dose and, without knowing your age or medical history, may not be enough to kick-start ovulation. The fact that he has promised you 100mg is a good sign - other women on mumsnet have had to privately purchase theirs from the internet (which is precisely what I will do if the 50mg doesn't work and my consultant refuses to up my dose). If the doctor refers you to a specialist snap his hand off. At least then you will be scanned to see if the Clomid is working. Meanwhile, do join fertility friend - it's fab and I personally find it empowering to know how my hormones are behaving from cycle to cycle. Tell me, have you had the day 3 & 21 tests? An ultrasound? Is your DP o.k in the sperm dept?

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 20:41

Annalou, have re-read your post and now fully understand your anxiety. Look, if your GP refuses more than 2 cycles of drugs, cry and demand further doses. Demand that he refer you. It does NOT take months. I was referred only about 10 weeks ago and in that time I have had all bloods done, an ultrasound scan, DP's sperm has been tested and I have just started Clomid. The NHS now have strict targets to adhere to regarding patient waiting time for referrals. Do not worry. If all else fails..buy your Clomid off the internet.

cystersledge · 12/10/2012 21:23

Can I second what Golden says - really do try to get your GP to refer you (I have PCOS too and was referred after about a year - I asked to be referred and the GP wasn't that keen but did it in the end... she said I just needed to take more holidays 'preferbaly to hot places'!). I had an initial meeting with the (lovely) fertility nurse after about six/seven weeks after I was referred, had an HSG and saw the consultant the next week and then started clomid on my next cycle. I was very pleasantly surprised by how quick it was. My GP absolutely wouldn't give me clomid, though, so I guess they all have different systems.

I am about to start my second cycle of clomid. Scans and a blood test confirmed that I ovulated last month so I'm crossing everything this month. It's worth tracking your temperature while you are taking clomid - mine definitely went up when I ovulated last month and it had NEVER done that before (I'm sure there is lots of info about this on Fertility Friends).

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 21:38

Cystersledge, hello. I've been charting my temps since January and they have shown ovulation every single month. However, the day 21 progesterone result showed a score of 18.5 which my consultant says shows that I' not ovulating! I am truly perplexed. Of course, I am thrilled to have been given Clomid, but I am not so thrilled to be told I am not ovulating when all my charts tell me otherwise. Could you shed any light on this? Thanks, in anticipation of your reply (or anyone else's!)

goldengirl71 · 12/10/2012 21:59

Just to clarify, I have been charting since January (had a mmc in March) and have only been on Clomid for 3 days! I am 41 with no children
