This should be clomid and IUI (for Katierocket) thread. Hoping this one will be luckier than the last - can't be any worse, don't think we had a single BFP did we?

Lots and lots and lots of luck to us all.

Good luck SKBF!

Rachee - the reason for the long wait until my next consultant appointment is that they want to give the clomid a long time to work. Scans during my first three clomid cycles showed that I was responding well to the drug, and I produced a good follicle each month. So the attitude my climic is taking is that I am now on a level playing field with everyone else, and given that the vast majority of couples conceive within their first year of trying, they want us to have that year before they start anything more "invasive".

I'm going to write a letter to them, as I still have a load of outstanding questions. One of which is that I see a lot of comments from people who are being advised that if clomid doesn't work in the first 3 months it probably won't work at all. Plus I am still worried that my luteal phase is not long enough and varies too much (it's been between 10 and 12 days).

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on

Hugs,
Artoo.
CD7, 6th clomid cycle, TTC 1 year.

Sounds good SKBF - brave lady but needs must. Hope it works for you.

Artoo - hope you get some answers from your clinic.

one quick question for all you ladies already on clomid - do you know the sucess rate? Also reflecting on what Artoo said about if it does not work in 3 months then not much point in contining it, is this true? My clinic has said i will only ever be allowed 12 cycles of it in my whole life so what happens if i need it for next pregnancies? i know i am getting ahead of myself here but just a thought.

hi everyone, sounds like lots been going on while been away (just had a lovely week in cornwall, the one week when it rained in my hometown so was nice)

this is a chlomid free month for me and we decided to chill out and try and forget about everything while away. Only bd on day 10 and 13 around ovulation. Did notice that got sore boobs from day 14. Usually get about wk before AF due.

Think the chlomid has affected my cycle what with the unusual af at the start of this cycle and had sore boobs on and off since day 1, continuous from day 14 tho which suggests af on way, maybe sooner than normal.

looks like will be going for ivf next cycle. going to order the drugs tomorrow. have to admit not overly excited about it. Not told anyone been ttc and looks like am going to have to let my mother-in-law know so she can help us out with my ds. will wait till day 2 blood tests tho, if fsh too high can't do it and so no need to let any1 know about it. Would be really nice to be able to talk to someone about ttc but don't really have anyone who feel close enough to, except dh. Never know, she might surprise me and be really supportive!

Natty1806 · 06/08/2006 16:13

Hi dizzy

Shame you don't have anyone in RL to support you though IVF, hopfully MIL will suprise you and be lovely.

You never know you might be pregnant right now and save you the bother, hope you are, but if not fingers crossed FSH levels are okay for you to go ahead.

WantAbabyNOW · 07/08/2006 10:42

Hi all,

I hope you have been getting real busy Natty!

I had an appoint with my gp today. Had first ever smear test and was suprised how awful it was! I know there will be worse to come but gosh!! I am also bleeding lightly which I did not think would happen. The lovely lady even provided me with an internal! I dont recall asking for that though. She says ovaries seem fine. Did not realise you could touch them from down there!

Back to specialist tomorrow. Bit unsure what will happen.

Have tonnes of homework to mark tonight though so I should probably worry about that first.

On the side, I think maybe I did ovulate due to the pain I had, some ferning patterns and also temp has been rising. Spoke to gp and she seems to think this is possible. Fingers crossed. If did ov then dh and I have been bd like crazy so we may just get there! One can only hope.

Hope you are all feeling positive. I know most days its hard to do when you want something so desperately and it is out of your control.

Will try to come back once have finished my huge pile of marking.

I read somewhere tell dh to shake you!

Will try that next time maybe!

I was reading your annoyance with dh Natty, All men are similar so dont worry too much. He will grow out of it once he HAS to be responsible. My dh is the same but doesnt have the excuse of hanging around his mates as they have all gone their seperate ways really. I get him all to myself, but that can be a pain too!

DH is actually planning on going to the indi festival soon which is in another state. He usually gets totally wasted. What fun!

I use that time to scrapbook.

If you dont already Natty you should try it. You can make the most beautiful things. I am going to do a pregnancy journal when the time comes. I guess could almost start now though as all this specialist stuff is part of the journey.

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 11:10

Sorry try what?

I can never stay mad with DP long, i know when the time comes that i stay mad for longer than 24 hours it is time to call it a day.

WantAbabyNOW · 07/08/2006 11:17

Tell him to grab your legs and give you a shake! Thats what I rad on here somewhere ...lmao

I am the same with my dh. If I got that cranky with him it would be time to rethink things. He makes me laugh so much though. Doesnt help that he thinks I am funny when cross at hime and then we both end up rofl!

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 11:33

Yeah i know, DP thinks its funny when i get in a mood.

I started a journal a while ago but go board with it, might go back to it when i start clomid.

Have been feeling waves of sickness today and last night and tender boobs today so not sure what is going on with my body maybe it is trying to ovulate, going to ring doctors at lunchtime to sort out the precription.x

WantAbabyNOW · 07/08/2006 11:36

Sounds promising Nat

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 11:50

It does but to be honest my body does so many weird things, god only knows.

Just going to keep up with the bding just in case and it is fun.

Rachee · 07/08/2006 12:14

Natty, clomid can work even after three months.... i know 2 other people whom it worked for in month 11 ! it worked for me month after finished 4th cycle. back on it next month now.

xXx
cd5. 4 weeks after m/c. no clomid this month.

Artoo · 07/08/2006 14:32

Ladies,

There was an interesting article on Infertility in the Observer this weekend. Click here for the article .

Included in the article is this little gem:

"There is also the unproven but debated link between fertility drugs and ovarian cancer. In the British National Formulary, the medicine bible, the Committee of Safety of Medicine Advice says of clomifene, the drug used to stimulate the ovaries in fertility treatments (not usually in IVF): 'Not to be used for longer than six cycles (possible increased risk of ovarian cancer).'"

I'm now on my sixth cycle of clomid, and supposed to be taking it for another 6, but I'm really not happy about doing so without speaking to my consultant. I must write my letter to him urgently.

Do any of you have any knowledge of this risk?

Thanks and hugs,
Artoo.

coggy · 07/08/2006 14:42

Artoo - I was told I could only have clomid for 6 months because of this risk and I was really surprised to find people here on MN who were on their 12th or 13th cycle.

I asked my consultant if I could take more (as I have had a year's break) and he said I could take as much as I like but it's my responsibility!!!!!!

I think the chances are small and, after what has happened to us, I personally feel the risk is worth taking but I quite understand why you would want to see him.
Get onto it quickly - it took my consultant 3 months to reply to my letter and I'm still waiting for the personal appointment he promised me in August 2005.

If I get AF this month I am going to get nasty!!!!!

trace2 · 07/08/2006 14:47

Artoo i to was told of the risks, and my gyny said not puting me on a high dose so i can take longer, now on 4th cycle but still 50mg

coggy · 07/08/2006 17:05

Aha - there you see....I am only on 50mg and some people are on 150mg which means it would be safer to take it for longer if you're on a lower dose surely....

Rachee · 07/08/2006 19:07

i was aware of risk, friend who doc reccomends only 6 months, cons given me 12, but no more.... i was on 50mgs for first 3 months now on 100mgs, no veiw to up the dose anymore....

mimi1uk · 07/08/2006 19:09

hi coggy hows u found u on here to, fancy a chat my email is [email protected]

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 19:53

Even though we are all told the risk (as slight as i am sure it is) do you think anyone has ever turned round and said well actually i don't want to take it? If so do you think the stronger drugs or injections that you can go onto have a less or higher risk?

coggy · 07/08/2006 20:43

I understand that lots of people would think differently but I would def. take the risk...after all...you could be hit by a bus etc. etc.
