Ovulation tests arrrrrrrrr!!!!

Okay ladies,need a bit of help.
My baby was stillborn at 39weeks on 1/1/11 and I'm desperate to try again for another baby. Ive been doing ovulation tests and at first there was two lines,the one line that just lets you know that the test has worked, and the other line that is suppose to be darker when you ovulate. Now the line that is suppose to get darker than the other line was very faint but now there is no second line atall. Does that mean that Ive missed ovulation and that I was picking up the end of ovulation???? Ive just read this message back and confused myself,hope it makes sense to someone out there.
Please help.xxx

Hi tobytoes, I just wanted to say how very sorry I am for your loss, I can't imagine how hard the past few weeks have been.

It could be that you were detecting the end of your LH surge when you first started testing, the only way to know will be to wait two weeks to see if you get your period, or carry on testing and see if you have a positive test in the coming weeks. Which tests are you using? I use very cheap Internet ones I buy from Amazon, I think for 30 of them they cost about £5. It may be that after everything you have been through that it takes a little while for your hormones to settle and for your periods to resume, so it might be worth trying to get hold of some of these cheap tests so you can do lots of tests?

Hi Tobytoes - I too am very sorry for what you've suffered, and hope that you get your bfp very soon.

I found that I got better results testing twice a day (this was with the tesco own brand sticks). In the morning then around 6pm. It kind of got easier to spot the surge coming as the second line on the stick would get progressively darker then paler again - but it can be so quick it's terribly easy to miss it.

It may be that you did ovulate and have just missed picking it up. Or it may be that your hormones are still a bit all over the shop right now considering what you've been through and thus the test is messing you about. It might also be that you're testing with different concentrations of urine - I found I got better results when I didn't go to the loo for 3/4 hours beforehand.

It definitely took a couple of months to get the hang of it! I wish you very good luck x

Thanks both,ive got a load of cheap tests of the internet aswell,so have been testing every morning for the last week. The surge line has never been darker than the other line,but the surge line has been getting paler and paler and now there is no line atall. Thats why I was thinking that I may have missed my ovulation and just caught the end of it. Ive done a few pregnancy tests just to make sure all the pregnancy hormone is out of my system which it is.So confused ,but I am also desperate to be pregnant again,maybe I should calm down a bit.

I use the clear blue "smiley" faces opk.They are expensive but Amazon have them on offer at the moment £29 for 20 tests.I found trying to decipher the lines too difficult the smiley faces so much easier!!!!

Im totally lost now,its been nearly five weeks now and I did say I was going to wait six weeks but its close enough,I cant wait anymore. Ive been testing to see when Im ovulating and I think I caught the end of ovulation,boooooooooo!!!! Theres just one line now instead of two( one dark and one very faint,but still there)

Hi tobytoes arh crap you missing ovulation but you never know so keep going at it!!!

I want my af now , my cycles are 28/29 days today it's cd29 and nada!!! All bfns so know i m not pg knew that as don t think i ov'd last month.Think the CP last month threw my body out!!! Come on now AF then i can order my opks and make Feb my month.

Ive just had the midwife round,her last visit. Hopefully Ill be seeing her again soon with happy news.She did inform me Id have a consultant next time but Id mainly be seeing her. Hummmmmmmmm. I think the only way Im going to get through my next pregnancy is to buy one of those heart monitors for the baby and wear it all day and night.

But first things first,Ive gotta get pregnant.So I havnt a clue what cd im on and I dnt know how long my cycle is,I havnt a clue when I ovulate or when Im due to come on my period,so all in all Id say that Ive got off to a fab start.xxxx

Hi Tobytoes firstly i am so sorry for your loss i cannot imagine how hard it must have been.. and still is for you.

I think the liklihood is that your ovulation tests were picking up your hcg levels from your pregnancy. As i understand it your LH surge, which is what the sticks test for, only lasts one or two days so its unlikely to peeter over several. But i may also be wrong as i am still waiting for my first cycle after my mc and everything has been all over the place. I think measuring anything before your first new cycle is all but impossible. I am sure it will be easier after your next cycle. Have look at Fertility Friend here which looks like it could be helpful in understanding your cycle if you are taking your temperature.
