By hook or by crook we will shag our way to victory - thread for the JSing viroids

The (updated) (again) 'rules' from our Just Shagging Originator for the Viroids:

Maintain a relaxed attitude at all times - drink if you want too, especially on your birthday (or when you?ve had bad news). Thread precedent dictates if you drink to excess you will get a BFP (but not recommended).

Covet thy husband and enjoy every minute. Shag at every opportunity - shag-capes and awesome superpowers optional.

Keep acronym-age to a minimum! EWCM is now to be referred to as 'pant snot'. Try not to get sucked in by Fertility Friend (at least for a while), but knowing where you are in your cycle and furkling for pant snot is most definitely allowed.

Bunting is to be put out for any small victory, thread-parties are held regularly and hugs are always welcome! Grin

Once you have your BFP, feel free to hang around and share your wisdom and virtual cocktails with the JSers.

Keep us up to date with gossip!

Most of these rules are well and truly broken!! But we try to chill - honest

Hello, been lurking mostly this week!

Yay yay yay for Esk the VFP is a BFP!! Xmas Grin

Welcome back BB everyone has been worried about you! Glad your OK if a bit freaked out thinking about being a parent. As everyone else has said I'm sure you'll be just fabulous and worrying is totally natural - I have had loads of oh fuck what have we done moments .. when thinking about lack of sleep money, figure then going back to work and trying to be everything to everyone but I am somehow convinced it'll be worth it .. that's what everyone who has one says so must be true! Try not to worry too much but if you do be reassured its very very normal!!

On weird dreams I've sneaked in on the act too .. I dreamed that I gave birth by the side of the bath just by lifting my leg ..no pain (its true TTL my dream tells me so Wink) then when it came out I discovered it was a girl .. but instead of having a normal face it had blue button eyes and and a platic nose .. rest was normal. In the dream decided it was a bit weird but then found the bottons and plastic nose were interchangeable so thought that was OK ... WTF!!??? I wonder if I'm also anxious about becoming a parent... open to any reasonal interpretations other than mentalness which of course it must be Confused

Josie glad your work load under ocntrol now and as for your new collegue .. well hopefully she'll soon be jealous of you skipping off on mat leave!

Vallina yay for follicles hopefully egg day will be upon you soon.

Nervous very much liking the thaw its been a total mare in the burg ...its going to hit the dizzy heights of 6 degrees tomorrow..melt snow melt! I have to say your showing miraculous restraint in not PIAR... I am looking forward to test fest!!

Dynababy · 09/12/2010 21:44

Oooh and yay for thread party .. since its virtual I'll have quite a few champagne cocktails .. and get a bit tipsy ... mmmmmm

Champagne for all and celebratory for all!

SingingMog · 09/12/2010 22:02

Huzzah for Esk's VFP! Excitement all around Grin

Glad to hear from BB too.

Won't reply to all now, because I'm knackered and will probably end up getting everything mixed up.

Party on ladies Xmas Smile

Truffkin · 09/12/2010 23:10

Hi viroids and huge congrats to Eskarina on the BFP! They're coming thick and fast now ladies.

We're mid shagfest although my temps have been a bit disturbed, I think it's because it's so cold and we've been using our heated mattress cover I must apologise for name checking a non-viroid last time I was here, I got my threads mixed up Blush

Have you been watching the footage of the studemt fees protesters in London today? I think they've really let themselves down (although I'd question if some of them are students!) and lost a huge amount of public support because of their behaviour. I understand their position (although think they are conveniently ignoring some of the facts) but commiting acts of vandalism that my taxes will pay to sort out, does nothing to win my sympathies!

Right, sorry for no personal mentions but wanted to check in as this week has been really busy and I've not been getting home from work until 8pm so have barely been keeping up. Woo hoo it's Friday tomorrow, roll on the weekend!

Truffkin · 09/12/2010 23:11

P.S exciting about new arrivals for the grads!

takethatlady · 10/12/2010 07:37

Hi truffkin - don't get me started on this. I have friends who have been on the marches (it actually includes a lot of academics, too) who have said that the coverage has been so distorted as to be basically lying. During the first march one friend marched for 5 hours and never saw a single policeman. She's afraid of crowds and had never marched before and said the only stuff that happened actually happened on the pre-planned route (where there were no police) but was presented as if it was a breakaway violent group.

Of course the pictures speak for themselves, but there have been upwards of 50,000 people on these marches - and the police have been goading them, leaving vans deliberately unattended to be vandalised, and in some cases provoking attacks. Not that that justifies or excuses any of it, but of course that's what makes the headlines.

Not to mention the fact that the media never reports on the whole issue. It's not just about student fees, it's about the ways in which the fees are going to be accompanied by massive cuts in Higher Education. In English Lit (my subject) because it's an arts/humanities/social sciences subject, we're going to be getting NO government funding whatsoever - only science, tech, engineering and maths will get funding. So we're going to have students paying very high fees for a worse student experience (because we'll have less money in the pot, not more). And it also means that research in these subjects will be transformed - and not in a positive way. Because we'll have no government funding we'll depend on students studying our courses to do our research - in the 1980s that meant that Islamic Studies, Russian Studies and Chinese Studies all but went down the swanny. Now what do we need? People with real, sustained expertise in Islamic culture, religion, law, language, economics and history, etc. But because 17 year olds didn't want to study it 20 years ago we don't have that expertise anymore. None of this is reported in the media.

Woah, what a way to kill a party!

Right, pepping it back up again with a whoop whoop and a cherry lambrini for the first JS babies! Yaay!

takethatlady · 10/12/2010 08:10

PS - if you read the 'Student protests' thread in Discussions of the Day you'll see that the protesters didn't stick to the planned route (as is being reported) because the police blocked it off, and two MNers witnessed/were the victims of totally unexpected and uncalled for violence from the police.

One was on her phone arranging to meet her husband for a coffee and a policeman thumped her on the head for no reason.

It seems the police completely underestimated what they'd need to do on the first march, and have then actively encouraged protesters to get violent in subsequent ones ...

Not that I'm anti-police and I'm sure the vast majority of them are trying to do an excellent job (just as the vast majority of protesters are not violent). But it's inevitable in these situations that tempers on both sides run high I suppose.

Right, sorry, back to the lambrinis. Pass me a mojito someone, I'm much more fun drunk :)

NoMoreSnowPlease · 10/12/2010 08:41

TT actually what you've been saying about the protests and funding cuts is very interesting. In NZ when the current govt (pack of dickheads all) were stupidly voted in, the cut funding to things like science research (?!). My sister is a scientific researcher and is currently looking for jobs outside NZ because there is nothing there for her post PHd (okay and cause she want's to do the whole overseas thing). It's nice to hear a different side of the matter (I find the UK media a bit overly biased at times)

Anyway, it's Friday (which I'm sure means something to those who work) my water is on, I have wotsits in the cupboard and there are some snuggly JS babies sue to join our flock very soon. And hopefully there'll be POSs this weekend too Xmas Grin[fbear]

escapeartist · 10/12/2010 09:10

Sorry for absence - but thank you all for the birthday wishes. It was indeed my 30th, which I spent at work in style. I had some friends over for tea and lots of cake and might do something with DH this weekend. It was the first bday I have celebrated since I was 18, so was pleased with myself :)

AF arrived last night, though I was not too surprised as only managed to JS after ov (for pleasurem, not baby making purposes!!) I spent the evening having cheese and biscuits and a gorgoues red wine DH brought from SA... the triumph of the non-pregnant lady. Hope it was my last month for a while though :)

Huge congrats to all the BFP's (and VFP's!!!)

Great Christmas present!

TFI Friday!
(Expecting snow in Greece this weekend, though temperature would have to drop by 25 degrees for that to happen... who knows?)

JosieSmith1 · 10/12/2010 09:38

Morning all

Yes Nelly it's either me or you next! I think I may have PMT, or it may be the fact that my hubby cleared my parking space of snow last weekend and now someone else has parked in it Xmas Angry. Anyway, not holding out much hope, good luck to you Nelly!

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 10/12/2010 09:44

ttl I totally agree with you about the coverage, it has pissed me off so much. My dad is a music teacher at my old school and loads of his pupils went on one of the previous marches. The next day he was talking to one of them who had been kettled, asking what it was like; Brian Paddick had been on telly the night before saying how extra care was being taken because of all the schoolkids, how toilets and water were freely available etc etc. She said there was loads of water going around and plenty of toilets...for the police. No one in the cordon was given access to either. She, and her fellow Y10/11s, were let out of the cordon at about 11.30pm (still in school uniform) and left to make their own way home. The older kids weren't let go till about 1am. Way to keep those kids safe, coppers Hmm

santababy2b · 10/12/2010 10:23

Morning ladies, sorry I havn't been on here much. Was getting a little stressed about ttc. Totally shocked this morning to get a BFP! (fsmile) Keep your fingers crossed for me that it is a sticky bean (and in the right place this time!)

P.S. how the hell am I going to not drink over Christmas without people noticing?!

santababy2b · 10/12/2010 10:24

Ooh, my smiley went wrong Xmas Smile. That's better...

takethatlady · 10/12/2010 11:01

santababy2b that's amazing! Congratulations! What a sneaky viroid ... going off and getting secretly upduffed Xmas Smile

I did give tips on how to get away with not drinking on the previous thread ... but in actual fact, I've basically ended up admitting it every time I'm in a drinking situation. Not very good at following my own rules!

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 10/12/2010 11:02
