PCOS and TTC! Anyone want to join with me?

AnnieBeansMum · 14/10/2010 15:29

I ladies. I have DD1 (almost 3) and DH and I have begun talking about TTC #2. It took nearly 4 years to conceive DD1 and we finally had success with a course of clomid.

I am now in Canada and have just been referred to a new gynecologist who is apparently the leading expert in PCOS in Canada. So hopefully he will be able to help speed things along. I don't think I could take another 4 year wait.

Does anyone else want to join??

Hi ya,

Just catching up so bear with me -

Pip I've been on o bleeding the whole time I've been on Met & before.

Bri I've had a funny cycle for the past 5-6 months almost bleeding on & of every two weeks for two weeks at a time. It's really getting on my nerves Angry Thought that met would help with that. DR & Cons don't seem that worried - as long as I'm not aenimic then they aint worried. That inuriates me further & feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall!!!!!

Boba Welcome. I tried clomid - not successful here, best of luck!!!

I'm feeling very proud of myself. Joined Weight Watchers this morning. Hate the fact I can't do it on my own but it has worked in the past so hopefully will be the push I need.

Hi all, Just popping in to ask how to get the diagnosis for PCOS?

I'm pretty convinced I have it and it has been mentioned before.

I have had gynae problems for 5 years now, have had 2 mcs and also have a DD who is 2.7.

Have been TTC#2 since I came off the pill in march but haven't had a period since June.

I get period type pains all the time and have a definite fullness to my right hand side. I'm gojing for an ultrasound on the 9th to investigate the fullness and have had countless bloods taken but not on the correct day as I've had no period.

My LH is more than double my FSH which I know is a factor.

I'm 23, not hugely overweight think I'm only slightly over normal, have no excessive hair or skin problems.

highheelsandequations · 03/11/2010 16:53

coconuts as far as I know, you need to tick 2 or more boxes of the symptoms of PCOS, as it's a syndrome with a whole host of manifestations. I was diagnosed after an ultrasound showed polycystic ovaries and blood tests showed hormones consistent with PCOS. I was seeing a gynaecologist at the time due to period type pains at strange times and irregular cycles. You might find the verity website gives you some useful information.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 03/11/2010 18:56

I am going for a scan on the 9th so im part way there. I will pop back in when I know more :)

thank you highheels

boba82 · 03/11/2010 19:11

Hi coconuts I had a lot of symptoms you've mentioned but it was an ultrasound that confirmed my suspicions. Not long to wait then you should know. Good luck.

tinky19 · 04/11/2010 08:31

Coconuts Mine also was confirmed by ultrasound scan as I had not had a period for a year after coming off the pill, along with weight probs etc.
Good luck

Shugaplum · 04/11/2010 09:03

HI, I have PCOS but managed to conceive DS through fertility treatment (Gonal F injections - clomid didn't work for me). DS is now 11 months and I still haven't had a period - went for a private scan and confirms ovaries still very polycystic. DS was born 10 weeks early and I am convinced it has something to dow ith my PCOS.

What I am wondering about is whether I can get any specialist advice on the NHS? Can I go to my GP and asked to be referred to someone about managing PCOS (i.e. not for fertility treatment straight away)? Most GPs I've spoken to are rubbish and tell me that I can't have PCOS as I'm slim (which we all know is rubbihs).

I just want some advice about conceiving #2 and the risks of a further premature birth. It would be useful to know what's out there before I go and see my GP. Can anyone help?

pinkypanther · 04/11/2010 10:45

Oh my goodness highheels just caught up on the thread and CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's awesome news. Our second grad from the thread.

Shuga in London where I am there are some specialists in reproductive endocrinology who deal with PCOS. I was waiting to see one when I fell pregnant with DS. Not sure where you are but might be worth looking into?

Fairygodmother1 · 04/11/2010 18:40

Hi Coconuts I think the blood tests, & an ultrasound will tell dr but your symptoms seem to shout it too.

Shugaplum It depends on your HA but you should be able to see an NHS specialist even if it's the gyne part of your local hospital!

Hey Pinky where you been???

wallydog · 04/11/2010 21:06

Congratulations Highheels! I was on CD66 yesterday then AF came today - boo! But really happy for you chick! x
I've got scan date for PCOS on the 1st Dec - will let post what the news is! How long do you normally have to wait for the results? Anyone know? Confused

wallydog · 04/11/2010 21:12

Hey pinky I think my pain could have been strong OV pains as low and behold AF arrived 2 weeks later! Never had them that painful before! Sorry late with the reply!Blush

pinkypanther · 06/11/2010 15:31

Aargh just wrote long message and lost it all!

Wally - thought it might be! In September I seriously thought I had appendicitis, I couldn't walk or stand up straight it was that bad...lo and behond AF arrived 14 days later! I think PCOS makes ov pain worse if you do ov. Boo to the arrival of AF though.

When I had my PCOS scan, the technician showed me the screen and explained what she could see (classic string of pearls appearance). So basically results there and then, followed by a letter to my GP.

Fairy - not been anywhere exciting, just at work and have less time to MN these days Sad. How are you doing - bleeding settled down?

Am on day 32 of cycle here, not sure whether to expect AF anytime soon...

boba82 · 06/11/2010 17:36

wally I too was told I had PCOS there and then as consultant could see them on ultrasound. Had to have an HSG before they would give me Clomid. Bout a 3 week turnaround for me. Sorry AF got you.

Shellybobbins · 06/11/2010 20:48

Hi Ladies,

Just joined and this is my first post, My story sounds so similiar to so many other people on here. I think i have grasped all the code used for quickness but what is AF??

I'm ttc #1 for 13 months, diagnosed with PCOS in July 2010, DH swimmers are fab its me that the problem :( I know i'm overweight but just feel like that is all i ever get told "lose weight" it really depresses me. I have always stuggled with my weight and to be told that is the route of my PCOS not only upsets me, it makes me Furious Angry

Been through the most humiliating of tests in the last 5 months. But found out i have very little cysts on ovaries and no blockages (all positives) but still feel like i am getting no where. Cycle has gone haywire don't know whether im coming or going. Have just ordered the PCOS book to try to get some tips from. I just honestly feel like im losing my mind! :(

Sorry to ramble on, none of friends in the same boat so dont understand what im feeling.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 06/11/2010 23:15

AF is "Aunt Flo'", short for your period :)

tinky19 · 06/11/2010 23:31

Hi Shellybobbins,
I could have written the exact same post last summer (09). But am now very blessed with DS.
I struggle hugely with my weight (I need to lose about 3 stone at the mo), but unfortunatly, losing it is the only thing that helps get my cycles to a regular 90 ish days.
I've joined weight watchers so fingers crossed it will work again.
Good luck. Smile

wallydog · 07/11/2010 00:48

thanks pinky and boba for the heads up! Will look out for the pearls!!!! What's a HSG?

Sorry to hear your story shellybobbins I too need to lose about 5 stone! I;m 5ft 4 and weigh just under 15st - not good for fertility! I've steadily put on 3st in 3 years! First time my periods have gone haywire though! Was actually a bit of a relief to have AF come back!
Am gonna get back into my running and Zumba!
Have nearly completed 1 week of Slimfast and lost the 5lbs put on holiday last week!:)
Good luck!

Shellybobbins · 07/11/2010 11:33

Thanks Coconuts i thoughts thats what it meant just couldn't figure out what it stood for! lol

I do try to lose weight, but im a comfort eater and when stressed god help the fridge! lol I know i sound like im making excuses but where i live (small island) no slimming clubs or exercise classes on in the evening. They are all during the day as i work full time like most people cannot attend them.

SO i'm having to do it under my own steam and not surprisingly i'm struggling with it. My doctors are quite happy to give me options on how to concieve but every one is followed by the words "when you lose weight" but are not willing to help me do that.
Am i the only one frustrated at the lack of help the NHS give people trying to lose weight yet all they do is complain thats its costing them so much money to combat obesity. Angry

boba82 · 07/11/2010 17:13

Welcome shelly you can still have the syndrome without the actual cysts. Don't know what book you've ordered? I got the Complete PCOS Guide and although I am still working y way through it, it is helping me grasp some understanding of PCOS.

Wally HSG is when they inject dye into tubes then xray to check for any blockages.

Shellybobbins · 08/11/2010 19:08

The Books i have ordered are the complete PCOS guide and a PCOS diet book.

The thing i hate about PCOS the most is the side effects. I feel like a 14 year old again with all the spots, and don't even get me started on the excess hair. If i could control them better I would cope more with TTC.

wallydog · 08/11/2010 20:59

Hey pinky do you still get bad ov pains? If so how do you cope with ttc and BD? I couldn't even think about BD when it happened!
