D'oh - apologies for typos!

AandRMum · 06/10/2010 17:06

Hi Purple sorry you have found yourself here. I completely get the WTTC again immediately. I am still in the WTF cycle and am TTC or at least doing nothing to not conceive. The website I found the most informative is this one, if you haven't spotted it yet. pregnancyloss.info/

I think the only difficult part is that random spotting/bleeding and various other symptoms mean you are never certain is what is mc related and what is potential pregnancy symptoms.

purple sorry you are here. I also understand where you are coming from. Like A+R, I also did nothing to prevent it (didn't see the point) but AF happened anyway. After the MC, and in cycle 1, I didn't ovulate when I would normally have done, think it throws your cycle off for a while, so my advice would be to not prevent it if you feel ready, but also not to stress about it in the first two months (unlike what I did). I went all out on the timing this month but then discovered I was having a longer cycle so planning was no use.

Purplebuns · 06/10/2010 17:58

Hi, thanks for your messages, I have had so much conflicting advice from the nurses and docs.
I asked the nurse on Monday if I had to wait for the bleeding to stop before I have sex again, and she said that there was no reason to not have sex unless I didn't want to as it is pretty sterile anyway? Only for the leaflets she gave me afterwards to say wait.

I had a natural miscarriage and I was definitely empty and had shrunk back, my bleeding has already lessened and I am starting to feel a bit better.
I just don't want to start using condoms (or buy any) it seems pointless.
I also had bloods taken at the time so if I did get pregnant it could be compared to those results and would show a difference, which would indicate a new pregnancy or not?
Along with my scan which confirmed my loss. I am not sure there would be too much room for error? I don't know, this is just my thinking based on no real knowledge!

The nurse also told me to take a pregnancy test two weeks after I stop bleeding which should be negative. Is this correct?

I am lucky that I have not had a problem conceiving before so I have never charted or anything, so if someone could give me a crash course that would be handy! Although the pregnancy loss website said this was useless at this time anyway?

Thanks for your replies and help :)

Pah I don't know.

CaribouMoo · 06/10/2010 18:27

Good grief, I've tried to post this 3 times!! Very, very quick post to say scan went well today and things look good so far. Little bean with heart beating away and just about right for dates. Back in 2 weeks for another.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and wishes - will check back later to catch up with your news x

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 06/10/2010 18:35

Great news caribou Grin. Hope you're feeling reassured and that everything continues to go well for you x

MummyAbroad · 06/10/2010 18:38

Hi purple

I'm really sorry for your loss. This is a very supportive place to be if you want TTC again, so make yourself at home.

As AandRmum said the pregnancyloss site has invaluable advice,

this page really spells out WHY the doctors as you to wait.

My case is a horrible scary example of why waiting can sometimes (although rarely) be very very important. I had a mmc, followed by medical management but not all tissue came away. I keep spotting and stopping and bleeding for 2 months, a couple of times I thought I had my period but it turned out later not to be. I had lots of clear scans and then later during one scan it was found that placental cells had regrown and I was diagnosed with partial molar pregnancy. This is really rare but very serious and needs to be treated with chemotherapy. I had an ERPC and the tissue was analysed and in the end I got the all clear, it wasnt molar. BUT if I had got pregnant in this time I would have definitely had another mc and been at risk of developing cancer. (Also, in these cases, even after treatment you have to wait 6 months to a year before being allowed to TTC again)

So, the bottom line is, if you wait for AF you know for sure that the mc is over, there are no complications and you are good to go as it were.

The dating thing will be more of a problem for YOU than the doctors. If you get pregnant again soon and go for an early scan (which you will want for reassurance) they might tell you the baby looks "small for dates" i.e. not growing, and that you will have to wait for your 12 week scan to confirm this. The doctors will happily send you home, and leave you to deal with this all by yourself. It is therefore a good idea to know as best you can when you conceived so the measurements can be interpreted accurately.

The absolutely bible concerning all things fertility related is the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, it will teach you all about charting, etc) Also very good is the free site www.fertilityfriend.com which has tutorials with the same sort of info.

You should definitely wait until a HPT says you are "not pregnant" otherwise you wont know if a positive pregnancy test is from the end of mc or if you are newly pregnant. Do you now what the results of your blood tests were? If you had a quantative HCG test this can give you an idea of how much longer it will take before the pregnancy hormones leave your system.

Lastly, if you are thinking about using OPK's (and HPT's) I would check out Amazon, there is a substantial price difference as opposed to what you get in the chemists.

Oh dear, I have written a novel Blush

Will catch up with everyone later, much love! xxxx

Fab news Caribou!!!GrinGrinGrinGrin

kat2504 · 06/10/2010 18:48

Hey caribou very pleased to hear your scan went so well!

purple It took me about 2 weeks to get a negative preg test after the MC so that sounds about right. I was able to resume "activities" after about a week post erpc. Had a bit of spotting still though.

You are relatively likely to get pg in the next couple of weeks anyway. Until you get the negative test, your hormone chain has not started up again. Once you get the negative test, in theory you will ovulate about two weeks later. In theory, anyway...

MA's advice is worth listening to, for your own peace of mind it may be better to not be seriously trying until you get your cycle back.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 06/10/2010 19:00

purple - I'm really sorry to hear about your loss Sad. Re the ttc, I didn't wait either, although I did make sure i got a bfn first. I was told in hospital that the main concern is with dating, and the ensuing worry that would occur if eg you're worried baby is measuring small for dates on a scan because you're not sure of your dates (obviously these types of worries are likely to be magnified after a mc). However mummyabroad makes a very valid point about making sure everything is ok.

Also, having said that we did ttc straight away, I was actually quite relieved when first AF arrived, I don't think I was really ready emotionally that soon.

Good luck with whatever you decide x

kat2504 · 06/10/2010 19:04

I second what izzy said about being relieved when first AF arrived. Early pregnancy is an emotional rollercoaster and I was not ready to deal with it either as I was still grieving over the MC. Not so happy to see second AF though!

Purplebuns · 06/10/2010 20:06

MummyAbroad Shock your post has just made me decide to wait! Shock

I am grieving our lost baby, we both are and we are taking steps to heal such as picking a name and doing a remembrance book entry. We are also on two weeks holiday (timed that right eh?Hmm) and are taking it easy with our beautiful DD.

I think I could be comfortable here :o

Thanks for your help :)

MummyAbroad · 06/10/2010 20:11

Stuff I miss from the First World:

Tescos Tea bags
Baked beans (never like them much while I lived in the UK but now that I cant have them I want them!)
Olbas oil (cant even buy this in the U.S! Tch!)
Click It Mosquito Zapper (really works)
crumpets (I'm salivating now)
christmas crackers
Nice cheese (There are two kinds of Costa Rican cheese "yellow" and "white" they both taste the same, like salty rubberConfused )
Earl Grey teabags
Nice bread (although I recently bought a bread machine which is helping lots)
Easter Eggs (OK, so its the wrong time of year but who wouldnt miss giant fun shaped chocolate?)
Tetley's teabags.
Everything from Primark. (I love a bargain and every time I wear something from Primark over here people comment on how unusual and trendy it is ! hahahaha. Really.
and any kind of teabags, cos the ones here are pathetic.

right better stop before I make the keyboard all slobbery! Grin

I've got 29 more hours till I see the lung specialist. Jeez this is all dragging on!

Wow with so many AF's it DOES look like we are starting to synch!

Izzy sorry about short LP. Is it time for a "how did you lengthen your LP" thread. Perhaps someone out there has found an answer?

wombat I know BFP is better, but at least having first AF means there will be (hopefully) a little less worry when your BFP eventually comes.

Kat sorry about AF too. At least you have learned all about your cycle now, so you have good chances of timing right next time. xx

apple are you craving Marmite now? cos getting a postive OPK is a very good symptom... When are you PingOAS?

and talking of PingOAS has Velvet cracked tested yet?

MamaP Glad you got good news. Your doc sounds like an evil old witch though, can you change?

Sorry not to name check everyone. Its my due date tomorrow so I will probably be on all day whinging ha hahaha, so see you soon. xxx

MummyAbroad · 06/10/2010 20:21

x posts with you there Purple.

Hope I didnt scare you too much, I think what happened to me is very rare. However giving yourself time to grieve is absolutely the right thing to do. Its so difficult coming to terms with a loss like this (especially when you hormones are all over the place at the same time) but it really is better to grieve now rather than try and "replace" the baby you lost. Any future pregnancy will be a completely new chapter in your life, and hopefully one with a lovely happy ending Smile

big hugs for you, hope you get lots of rest and pampering on your hols xxx

PinkFondantFancy · 06/10/2010 20:39

Evening all! mamapower did they seriously tell you to keep trying for another year regardless of number of miscarriages??? You're not made of plastic, how much grief are you expected to put up with?! Anyway fingers crossed you've had your share of piss poor luck now and next time will be fine.

purple sorry you're here, I'd just second what lots of the others have said that in a way I welcomed the break waiting for first AF although I didn't do anything to prevent pg in the meantime. First AF was quite clotted so I was actually quite thankful that my system had a flush through before trying again. Also felt like my first AF was like drawing a line under what happened. So I guess all I'm trying to say is, if you're feeling ready to try again, go for it, but if AF does arrive, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Opk experts- if you get one of those pee stick machine things, do you need to start it on cd1? Just wondering if I need to be ready to buy one in a hurry if AF rocks up or if a couple of days later is ok?

Arsecrackers, have been boiling and egg for dinner but have no clue how long it's been in for!! Might give it another 5 mins-would rather have bullet than slop!!

Hope you're all having a chilled out evening. Apprentice is on in just another 20 mins yay!!

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 06/10/2010 20:43

mummyabroad will be thinking of you tomorrow, let us know how you're getting on x

Also - good idea re the thread. In the meantime I have made the dr appt and emailed the fertility-specialist acupuncturist to get some info. So I'm still feeling quite positive about it - it makes such a difference to feel like you're at least taking some steps towards trying to resolve an issue.

PinkFondantFancy · 06/10/2010 20:43

Kat sorry AF rocked up :( caribou fab news!! Sorry guys, missed you off before! purple thanks for the ice cream!!

AandRMum · 06/10/2010 20:54

MummyA hopefully the wonderfully insightful information you get tomorrow will help with dealing with DD-day. Biggest hugs ever - what a day!
On the grieving side - wrote a truly awful poem yesterday (in both senses) - didn't realise I felt so bad about it all. Thought I was all practical and ready to dive right back in but definitely understand the first cycle af relief concept ... and the next cycle annoyance!!
MamaP I would definitely kick up a stink about rubbish service. Doctors definitely need feedback ...

owlshoes · 06/10/2010 20:57

PFF - you've got up to day 5 to set it going, if I remember right then you have to wait until the month after if you miss the window.

Purple - welcome to the thread :)

PinkFondantFancy · 06/10/2010 21:03

Thanks owly thats good, less of a panic if it rocks up at an inconvenient time! where you going on hols??

kat2504 · 06/10/2010 21:05

PFF yes if you buy a cbfm, you do need to start it on cd1, apparently that is quite important. I haven't cracked yet but have started browsing ebay! Once I am 2 cycles done post mc (like the guidelines for it say) I may well be POAS every day! There seemed to be a lot going cheaper on ebay and you can get the sticks cheaper on the internet too.

MummyAbroad · 06/10/2010 21:06

Izzy

Blush Blush Blush Dr appt and fertility specialist acupuncturist definitely better move than asking people on MN!Blush Just goes to show how addicted I have become, that is the first thing I thought of! Blush

Velvetcu · 06/10/2010 21:28

Hi all

Purple - sorry you are here :( i waited for first cycle so that i knew i was functioning properly down there. I too had a 9 week WTF cycle but that was after ERPC.

Good news Caribou!

No I havent cracked yet! Absolutely no sign of AF but I dont want to get my hopes up! Have some symptoms but dont want to think about it! One unusual one - had some very thick white pant snot today. Any explanations?

kat2504 · 06/10/2010 21:31

mummyabroad will also be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope you have lots of hugs to get through the day, I'm sure it will be a difficult one for you.
