Just wondering how ong the process takes from 1st appointment where they cant find the strings, through 2nd appointment, scan and trip to gynaecologist?

I would guess it depends on your area and HCT. I had the same just over a year ago and I think it must've been around 5 months from nurse trying to remove to gp trying, to scan, to gynae, to theatre...so worth it though.

broodywantcoilout · 31/07/2010 11:18

when u want a child 5 months of waiting to even ttc seems like forever!!! thanks though, its good to get a rough idea of how long it may take

lilllysa · 02/08/2010 18:18

Took in total about 4 weeks for me! Went to docs, no strings got a scan appointment for 2 weeks later which showed coil still in place, called my local family planning clinic (who were recomended by the doctor as being the "experts" at stringless coils) they got me in about a week later and removed the coil

broodywantcoilout · 02/08/2010 19:48

ooh, i tried family planning clinic (minus the scan), they said would be about 3 weeks til they could fit me in and suggested another, which i havent tried yet-am hoping to see dr on thurs so she can try to find the strings-so here's hoping (desperately)!!!
4 weeks sounds good, well done u!!

lilllysa · 02/08/2010 20:59

We'd decided to TCC and I just knew I needed it out ASAP! If I could have done it myself I would have LOL!! Felt like it was driving me mad having it in!!

thats exactly how i feel lillysa!!! desperate to ttc but cant, now regretting getting coil in the 1st place!!!! is it long since you had yours out? good luck with the baby making (i have already done some ann summers shopping!!)
mrspickles - sounds like u had a rough time wiht it, really hope i dont have the same problems! hope you're doing ok now

luckbealady · 04/08/2010 08:37

Would you like a horror story? My mum (aged 65) had to go into hosp for a d&c, a minor procedure. While they were doing it they removed her coil which had been fitted 35 - yes that's THIRTY FIVE - years before!

No wonder she couldn't get Channel 5

I asked her how come she still had it in, and she said she mentioned it to her GP a few years back and they said if it's not bothering you don't worry.

Lovely...

saw dr again yesterday morning, she had a good dig about but still no luck, as i have 'normal' periods she said she doesnt think its there, until she realised id probably be pregnant by now without it!! she thinks it should be 2-3 weeks 4 scan appointment, then about 6-8 weeks to see gynae to hook it out if it is there!!! seems so far away!
ah congratulations mrspickles!!!!!!! wow! hope ur not loosing out on 2 much sleep and enjoyng showing off ur 12 week old-after all u went thru 2 get there its been well worth it! well done you!
luckbealady-wow 35 years!!!! did it go rusty?haha

ShowOfHands · 06/08/2010 16:57

A colleague of mine started having stomach pain and after various tests had a scan. Found a coil that had moved a long way from where it should have been. She had previously been told it must have fallen out and she hadn't noticed. Nope, had gone on a wander. Was about 30yrs later!

I've just got an appointment to have mine removed (threads still there afaik) and there's a 6 week wait at the GP and 3 week wait at family planning. So even straightforward removal involves a wait I think.

broodywantcoilout · 08/08/2010 20:22

can a nurse at ur surgery take it out? it was a nurse who 1st tried with myn

Dimtan · 08/08/2010 20:34

I had a 6 week gap between failure to find strings and a scan. It showed it was in place and I dont want to conceive so rather than wait another 8 weeks for a gynae appt I left it there!

broodywantcoilout · 13/08/2010 20:22

have just made gynae appointment-for october!!!seems such a long way away! oh well, hopefuly they'll find its not there on the scan in a couple of weeks, tho i have a strong feeling that it is still there!!

broodywantcoilout · 24/08/2010 20:18

just had scans and x-ray-
think mirena is in my pelvis!!! loody thing, wish id never got it now!!!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/08/2010 08:36

oh reading this has made me realise im not alone!! thought straight forward removal would be the case for me back in May so we could start ttc on hols! how wrong i was. My coil is imbedded what agony trying to get that out, first by gp nurse, second by gynae at hospital. I go in next week under general anaesthetic to have it removed and d&c. So about 4m wait all in!

broodywantcoilout · 25/08/2010 15:19

gosh!!! all that digging around hurts doesnt it?! last time i went (before scans) she kept asking me if i was ok and if it was hurting, i kept saying no, as i didnt want her 2 stop looking-just wanted it out!!!
whats a d&c? i thought that was something to do with baby being left behined after miscarriage?
have they said how long it'll be before you can start ttc? 4 months (which still feels like forever and a day) sounds reasonably quick all in all to me-will have been about 3months altogether before i get to see gynae (if thats still the plan now they know its not where it should be)-and thats before any possible op.
i really feel for you-the desperation of wanting to start ttc NOW, yet being unable to because of a (uninformed) choice we made previously, then needing an op and going through all that pain because of it.
i feel excited for you for next week-not long now!!!!!
good luck!

nicolamumof3 · 25/08/2010 16:18

aww thanks for that, well i think the correct term is a hysteroscopy, just a good 'flush' out where they check all ok. I keep having thoughts they will say coil has caused some kind of damage and i won't be able to ttc again Sad but thats just me over thinking. Can't wait to ttc, but we are only given to just after xmas as would prefer not to have another xmas baby! Good luck with yours too. This time next week i should be safely home.

broodywantcoilout · 25/08/2010 20:15

same here, couldnt stand the thought of being told damage has been done :-( but a friend of myn had hers implant into her womb and was told she'd probably lose her womb-all is well tho, all went to plan and she wont be getting another coil!!
so...
i'm sure we'll be fine too
let us know how it all goes!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/08/2010 20:19

oh i will, i have three ds already but would love just 'one more' baby (truth be told i'd go on forever!) so we'll see. I would never have a coil again, such a shame as otherwise been fine and i can't use hormone based contraception. Dh will have snip anyway after we've had another if it happens of course!

broodywantcoilout · 25/08/2010 21:01

wow, i thought we were crazy wanting 3!!! ive told dh he's getting the snip after all this-he's not happy, goes quiet and can c his mind ticking thinking of contraception for me 2 use!!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/08/2010 21:24

oh no! my dh will have it done willingly bless him said i've been through enough!!

broodywantcoilout · 25/08/2010 21:42

same here but he's not having it quite yet! you're lucky!!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 25/08/2010 23:17

Eep i am planning on having my Mirina Coil out next year when DS2 is settled into school, after this thread im dreading it! I can still feel the strings though so hopefully it will stay put that long.

It really hurt going in im hoping its no more painfull on the way out. It didnt make it better when the dr started wielding a large spike around my 'areas' Grin

broodywantcoilout · 26/08/2010 14:35

they used a spike thing to try find my strings to pull it out, a long white knobbly stick!
i'm sure you'll be fine, just reading other experiences makes it worrying if it hasnt yet happened 2 u.
try not to worry..... tho if in a few weeks u still r maybe get it removed and use another means of contraception? BUT im sure you WILL be fine!!!!
