Climate Change

What are you NOT giving up for climate change?

As in, something you know would be beneficial and you actively refuse to do it.

I refuse to take 4 minute showers. My showers last 15-20 minutes, 30 if I've had a really bad day. A nice hot shower relaxes me and I can't abide the thought of feeling stressed in there trying to wash before the clock runs out.

To balance this out so that you don't all think I'm a terrible person, I was vegan for 10 years 🙈

Just wondering what others are clinging on to?

There are plenty of serious threads about climate change, could you people not just leave me to my silly little thread about things I don't want to give up and argue elsewhere?

Everything is so bloody depressing and exhausting.

I hear you - I hope you can see though why this would come off in bad taste to people who are genuinely concerned about the future and young people around the word?

If a group of children had been kidnapped and were being tortured and murdered one by one each day right now, and people wanted to chat here about what they just wouldn’t be willing to give up to have those kids rescued and brought home (wet wipes, because I’m too lazy for a cloth eg).

Spanielsarepainless · 04/08/2023 17:11

Absolutely nothing. The percentage of global CO2 produced by this country is so small, whatever we do makes no difference. We are crippling our economy and despoiling our landscapes for no gain.

fullbloom87 · 04/08/2023 17:13

@Goggleboit94 it was a light hearted thread actually until people like you came along and started talking about people burning to death and wanting to sterilise everyone.

Perhaps creating the thread on the ‘climate change’ board wasn’t the wisest decision? If you didn’t want people actually interested in climate change to get involved.

fullbloom87 · 04/08/2023 17:16

@Daftasabroom Noo thing was done about it , it just wasn't a thing after while because other things took over like the Iraq war and terrorism.

fullbloom87 · 04/08/2023 17:17

@Goggleboit94 I never made the thread. If you're so terrified of climate change get of your phone and go live in the woods.

I would luvie, but they’re mainly on fire at the moment

Everything is depressing because most people would rather post silly little threads about how they can't live without their SUV packed with shit they don't need, with 4 kids in tow, without taking a second to consider what kind of world they're creating for everyone else

@Goggleboit94

Suppose you wouldn't know how cold it is in the uk right now whilst on holiday in mummy and daddy's villa would you.

Starsandrain · 04/08/2023 17:28

Holidays. I know flying is terrible but I do love a holiday and while I can afford them (might not be much longer) I would like them.

Miajk · 04/08/2023 17:33

Daftasabroom · 04/08/2023 15:59

I do get the maths. But assigning my children's emissions to me and DP is nonsensical (as per the 2016 paper) all it means is that we are assigning tomorrow's emissions to today. It's accounting for the same thing multiple times.

Why should my children's emissions be assigned to me? This would my children emissions free.

What happens if x=0?

This logic makes no sense. Your lifespan overlaps with your children's lifespan.

Unless your kids are spending all day living on air sitting outside, they are adding to your household.CO2 emission by:

  • eating
  • using resources
  • being driven around
Etc.

So can you not see how not having children would mean a huge reduction in your contribution overall Vs how having children basically doubles it?

You're obviously very bitter and tell yourself that your victim mentality is a great excuse to be selfish and not care about the environment and just do what you want.

The delusion is pretty astounding tbh.

If you don't want to do your part and your life revolves around you only, that's fine, but stop deflecting as it's not very hard to see right through it.

JaneyGee · 04/08/2023 16:40

Nothing. What we do in this country is pretty much irrelevant. China, the USA and India produce the vast majority of carbon emissions. In fact, I believe those three produce more than half of the greenhouse gases. Another massive problem is overpopulation. In 1900, there were just over a billion humans. By 1960 that had trebled to three billion. It's now eight billion and heading for ten. But even if the British all disappeared that wouldn't change things. African women have five kids, on average, and the population of Africa is set to double by 2050. As for, say deforestation, what Brazil does matters far more. Planting a few extra trees in Surrey isn't going to matter if great swathes of the Amazonian rainforest disappear.

Do you purchase goods made in China?

Also it being cold in the UK doesn't mean climate change isn't real. The confidence some people have in their stupidest thoughts is pretty impressive!

fullbloom87 · 04/08/2023 17:39

@Miajk well if you think forest fires are going to start in the uk when it's cold and rainy then I can't help you. Context is key

JamSandle · 04/08/2023 17:43

Holidays and travel.

No kids, no car, mostly eat vegan. Exploring has always been my passion.

fullbloom87 · 04/08/2023 17:43

@Miajk bitter about what? I'm happy and loving each day I'm blessed with for however long or short that may be. Just about to start packing for a lovey 10 days in Spain which we'll be driving to in our comfy car. Now just off to drive and walk my dogs by the sea and get fish and chips with the family followed by red wine and a movie 😊

whoruntheworldgirls · 04/08/2023 17:48

Holidays abroad
The car, we get the bus where we can but i won't be without it incase of emergency, don't trust nowadays that an ambulance would get here in good time.
Cheese
Meat, though we have cut down a lot
Showers, takes bloody ages to wash and condition my hair, only do it every 5 or 6 days though to reduce the amount of water used and also because it's a damned pain and i hate doing it.

We recycle everything we can, don't buy clothes often and when i do it's from Vinted.

Cheese. Got about halfway to being vegan, and ground to a halt at cheese.

Same here. I went vegetarian about 10 years ago and tried switching it to fully Vegan but cheese is rank!! I do eat meat and fish again now though. Went to Aldi today to get some shopping and saw the fake meat stuff and wondered how the fuck I managed to even eat that!

loislovesstewie · 04/08/2023 10:06

@Threenow , the problem with the UK is really the climate. Not heating homes and ventilating them too causes black mould, there are at present umpteen reports of social housing which isn't really fit for purpose due to mould/mildew . Heating one room can often cause problems along with drying clothes indoors. It's why so many people have a tumble dryer; to prevent mould.

We do have a black mould problem here also. However, I've never had it in any of my homes as I have the windows open all day in all rooms except in the living room when I have the heater on. I also dry washing inside at times with no issues - although admittedly not as much as people have to do in the UK I imagine.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/08/2023 22:09

People are talking about this thread being depressing .

What I am finding depressing is the amount of posters lumping on others because they aren't willing to live the kind of life last week in the 18th century . Life is a balance. People have different lives and some things are more possible for one person than another . You know that saying about don't make perfect the enemy of the good? Well that's what you are doing every time you are telling someone that their efforts aren't worth it as they aren't as dedicated as you are .
