House swaps

The Mumsnet house swaps topic is intended for Mumsnet members who want to organise house swaps with other members. It's not for individuals or companies to advertise house swaps or holiday lets. For £30, you can advertise your company or products for 90 days. If you are a larger business and wish to advertise on Mumsnet, please email [email protected].

So if someone DID want to swap houses for a few days for a cheap holiday...

...and if someone hypothetical who looked a lot like me and sounded a lot like me and who lived where I live said they wanted a house swap, would anyone actually be interested?

I don't want to give too much personal info out but I live right on the border of Staffordshire, Shropshire and South Cheshire.

What would you need to see on offer to tempt you into a houseswap in the Heart of England?

Ok, I've decided I need to do more to sell Edinburgh to someone! Would be looking for something next summer - or Easter - atlhough matching school holidays with English ones is always trickier. We're usually from end of June to mid August. We live in a great area - views of the castle, nice shops and restaurants nearby. Family friendly house, 4 bedrooms, big garden. Beach is about 3/4 hours away, loads to see and do in Edinburgh.
We'd love anything that fits 5 but especially Yorkshire, or coasts / near beaches etc but anywhere that would be nice to spend a holiday (hopefully with a garden). Did a swap last year and although it was somewhere we might not have chosen to go it worked out really well. Thanks

horace · 27/07/2008 21:19

Ok, been watching for a few days and i've just got to join in. Another staffs house. We are in a small south staffs village. 15 mins from Alton Towers. minutes from the Peak District. half an hour from Drayton Manor ( went there two weeks ago - fab for under5s)

3 beds- king size with bathroom. double with cot. bunks.

would love somewhere near the coast or kent or London or somewhere i've not thought of yet

ButterflyMcQueen · 27/07/2008 21:42

springflower we may be interested - could limit our brood if we came north...

how big is house?

see below for my descrip of house 25th june 22.34 !

Springflower · 27/07/2008 23:24

Oh, I always wanted a brood but stopped at 3! How many of you are there? Our house is a recently extended bungalow and so all pretty new / modern. It has 4 bedrooms - our room (kingsize) , spare room (double) childrens rooms (1 - double, 1 with 2 small beds), 2 bathrooms and kitchen/diner, living room and landing room with balcony and playroom. We do have one of these childrens chairs that folds down into a little bed which could be used in one of the bedrooms or playroom if you needed more space. It's not huge but nice and pretty spacious. We're about 20 minutes from the city centre and near the bypass to get to other places. Not sure how this cat thing works but could find out if you (or anyone else) was interested.... Yours sounds huge and in a great place by the sounds of it. We would definitely be interested in a swap if it looked like working out.

oh we so need a house swap thread!

I would consider ANYWEHRE for a break - 3 or 4 days. Milan is fab (yes please can i come) , cheap flights (at the moment, fuel prices a bit dodgy) and eurostar is too (and i think you can use tescos deals for eurostar). so don't be put off MNers!

I would love to swap our house one year for a holiday as we have chickens, rabbit and dog that culd all be part of the deal!.

we live in lovely county near motorway networks, airports and london (but quiet and rural village). we have 4 bedrooms plus an outside log cabin thing that can sleep 4 or more kids (did 7 once!) in the loft!

We have parks, forests, lakes (as in sailing dinghies on type), theatres etc near - really lovely nature reserve at the end of our road too and a 250 long garden

any takers?

MissFortune · 28/07/2008 18:41

overthemill · 28/07/2008 19:02

I haven't read all of this very long thread. I have no house to offer, but myself and 3 house trained DCs are looking for a place to stay over the August bank holiday week end. We are having a kitchen fitted at home and need to get out. My "friend" was renting us her static caravan and has just let us down, in a big way by double-booking.
Kids are heart broken that they can't have their holiday.
I am distraught that we have nowhere to go.
Not much money, (New kitchen being fitted due to an insurance claim.)but I can clean.

Desparate.

WilfSell · 28/07/2008 22:02

Ssorry I can't help EG, but bumping for you...

an august bump for those who may be interested.

pamelat · 19/09/2008 19:00

I would be interested in this house swap lark but am a bit worried that our house isn't desirable enough?

We are near to the cricket and National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham but nothing outstanding.

3 bed detached. 1 room with cot. 1 bathroom. 1 cat to feed!

Messy neighbours but otherwise nice area (nicest suberb of Notts anyway!)

Do you think mumsnet needs a neater forum for this with an available and a wanted section? And maybe the option to add some photos?

Also, how do we sort out security? Will try the homelink suggestion.

Sonnett, your place sounds like perfection

LazyWoman · 20/09/2008 18:11

Hi - Sorry if this site has been mentioned already. I am a member of Switchome - a home exchange organisation which is free to join
www.switchome.org. The majority of properties are in France but they do have others in Europe and the rest of the world.

We haven't yet done an exchange but have had quite a few offers for school holiday swaps in France & Belgium. The members seem to be very genuine, nice people.

Even if you would prefer to only do a swap with other Mumsnetters, it can give you an idea of what things to state about your house/area etc.

Hope this helps.

I will swap with someone in Greece - preferably an island

Chrysanthamum · 04/10/2008 12:09

Hi QueenBhannae,
Your place sounds lovely. We're in a village near Glasgow with 3 bedrooms. There's a wee play park 2 mins from the house and an Asda 5 mins away on foot. We're close to the city and beautiful countryside with lovely buggyfriendly walks and parks. we've got loads of baby stuff and toys inc. playstation dvds etc.
We're open to weekend swaps and longer stays.

IlanaK · 09/12/2008 22:30

Is it too late to join this thread?

We live in Central London (extremely central tourist area) in a flat in a large portered block. Three bedrooms - one massive one with bunk beds and masses of toys; one double (superkingsize bed) with ensuite, and one large single. Family bathroom too. Both bathrooms currently being totally redone. No garden or outside space, but 5 minutes walk from a Royal Park with playgrounds. The flat could sleep a couple with up to three kids (plus a baby).

We would love to visit places like Ireland, Scotland, Wales, but would consider anywhere really. Main criteria for us is no pets, no smoking, and good public transport as we have no car.

Any takers???
