House swaps

The Mumsnet house swaps topic is intended for Mumsnet members who want to organise house swaps with other members. It's not for individuals or companies to advertise house swaps or holiday lets. For £30, you can advertise your company or products for 90 days. If you are a larger business and wish to advertise on Mumsnet, please email [email protected].

So if someone DID want to swap houses for a few days for a cheap holiday...

...and if someone hypothetical who looked a lot like me and sounded a lot like me and who lived where I live said they wanted a house swap, would anyone actually be interested?

I don't want to give too much personal info out but I live right on the border of Staffordshire, Shropshire and South Cheshire.

What would you need to see on offer to tempt you into a houseswap in the Heart of England?

I would love to swap next summer with someone near legoland???
Although dont know anyone who would want to come to outskirts of Liverpool..small 3 bed semi which by next summer will have bunk beds in one room, midisleeper, king size bed and a travel cot[maybe normal cot aswell if needed]
reasonable size garden to the back with a trampoline and triple swing set, playhouse, sand table etc [enough to entertain for a day]

WilfSell · 25/07/2008 21:34

rebel, come on, I was joking. I live here too (ish). You can see me selling the delights of Staffordshire elsewhere in the thread and they said I did a good job!

All we have to say to em is: Alton Towers. And they'll come.

rofl.

Did you see me arguing with you???

SilkCutMama · 25/07/2008 21:51

Anyone fancy central York?

TheOriginalXENA · 25/07/2008 21:51

Have nice house in Cornwall. two kings and three sets of bunks. Near fantastic beaches....

AvenaLife · 25/07/2008 21:52

York sounds fab, so does cornwall. Our house is so small though .

ChasingSquirrels · 25/07/2008 21:53

so where do you fancy TheOriginalXENA?

20 mins from Cambridge City Centre, small village (pub, playground, no other facilities in village).
4-bed house, garden with kids play things - trampoline, swings, climbing frame, chickens.

TheOriginalXENA · 25/07/2008 22:00

never been to Cambridge. I can see that the DC's would love Alton Towers. I love Scotland.... I wonder if DH would agree?

CarGirl · 25/07/2008 22:02

Nemo we could well consider a swap to Liverpool (we are near Legoland), you'd have to bring your travel cot here as I think dd (nearly 3) will def be in a bed by then

AvenaLife · 25/07/2008 22:04

I'm 40 mins away from Alton Towers and Drayton Manor, Gullivers Kingdom is 20 mins away.

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:04

i woukld do this but not child friendly enough house so would have to be older kids

and open minded swappers

miles from the sea a bout as far as you can get

only local attractionsd stratford on avon and warwick castle cotswolds within short drive

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 25/07/2008 22:07

Ha ha I'm like Fennel. We live in Devon with a view of the sea but there is now way in god's earth I'd swap with a mumsnetter. They'd be turning their nose up at the state of my bathroom.

(TBH unless someone has a fortress we'd have to leave ds1 behind and that probably wouldn't be good for a holiday )

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:08

ha open minded means not sex den just notr up to stabndard

WilfSell · 25/07/2008 22:13

god no, i'm a well known slob. i'd suggest searching on MN names before signing up to, er, match your domestic standards?

Obv though I would clean and tidy... And my house is lovely. Really.

This thread is . Deffo a need for a house swap section on MN. I've been thinking about swapping for a while, and DH had a look at a few websites, but were a bit worried about swapping with complete strangers - somehow that doesn't seem to apply with MN, plus you know that it will be families who will turn a blind eye to child crap everywhere.

I'm about 30 mins from centre of Edinburgh (think of the Festival...), on a train line with Glasgow one way and Edinburgh the other, 2 playparks a short walk away, big designer outlet in the town and a 4 bed. in a nice quiet cul-de-sac. Anyone fancy?!

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:18

oh if you want to read for a week i have about 2000 books on a totally wewird range of topics

AvenaLife · 25/07/2008 22:19

ds would love your house zippitippitoes!

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:22

has a large plasma tv

toobusymum · 25/07/2008 22:23

Meant to add - would like to swap with someone who isn't too worried about houskeeping standards - not too bad, just not desparate housewives standard!

unknownrebelbang · 25/07/2008 22:24

Can I not just come and decamp to your properties whilst you all go on holiday instead?

ButterflyMcQueen · 25/07/2008 22:34

i have a large 6-8 bed house in 'affluent' yorkshire town near dales
loads of fab beauty spots
great local scenery
wonderful pubs/winebars/restaurants
tennis/golf etc
indoor and outdoor victorian lido
great local shops
waitrose etc....

anyone?

JudgeNutmeg · 25/07/2008 22:41

Toobusymum!

Ha! Someone who can vouch for my lovely view but who will.never.tell.about.the.state.of.my.oven. [/intimidating stare]

Please note that I'm interested in swapping next year because this summer is all about you. When are you coming? The surf was sweeeeeeeeeeet yesterday.

anxiousmax · 25/07/2008 22:41

I'd give it a go, we can offer

3 bed semi, 1 dble 2 singles but would be happy to add camp beds etc.

Suffolk coastal nearby beaches of Aldeburgh & Thorpness. Also 30 mins Walberswick & Southwold.
Inland to Framlingham Castle.
Loads of open countryside & woodland, river cruises from Aldeburgh or Orford.
Golf & Sailing
Theme park in Lowstoft, Zoos & Farm parks, air museums plus loads more all within easy drive for day trips.
Local restaurants are fantastic, supermarket at the bottom of the road.

House isn't posh but if you aren't going to judge us for DH's dodgy DIY then i'd eb ahppy to swap.
Would consider anything but do like to be near a beach.

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 22:43

well you can come and stasy in mine while im here or not tbh

ButterflyMcQueen · 25/07/2008 22:48

a few more attractions

local theatre
large city to shop till you drop inc Harvey Nicholls
spa town harrogate
gordon ramsey allegedly rated a local restaurant his fave in Yorkshire
wheely bugs in long hallway!
