House swaps

The Mumsnet house swaps topic is intended for Mumsnet members who want to organise house swaps with other members. It's not for individuals or companies to advertise house swaps or holiday lets. For £30, you can advertise your company or products for 90 days. If you are a larger business and wish to advertise on Mumsnet, please email [email protected].

So if someone DID want to swap houses for a few days for a cheap holiday...

...and if someone hypothetical who looked a lot like me and sounded a lot like me and who lived where I live said they wanted a house swap, would anyone actually be interested?

I don't want to give too much personal info out but I live right on the border of Staffordshire, Shropshire and South Cheshire.

What would you need to see on offer to tempt you into a houseswap in the Heart of England?

Anyone interested in (FAQ particularly )in a 4 bedroom 17C stone cottage with uninterupted countryside views for an "outdoorsey" sort of holiday. Loads of walks straight from the door - great stream for paddeling and fishing ( well never actually caught a fish yet!!).

Forest a mile and a half away with cycle trails and walks, adventure playground and cafe

Lazy evenings with glasses of wine and a good view from our garden

Slightly further afield: Lovely canal village with walks and a pub, great shopping centre, A couple of Nat.Trust properties.

Car needed as nota shop or pub within walking distance!!!

I would be very interested next summer in swapping with a family in London. We have a four bed house in North Devon which is close to a great swimming/surfing beach and not actually entirely shite as Cod would have you believe.

This is the view from my bedroom:

Veiw from kitchen diner:

Sunroom (has more seating now but crap light sittings remain) Excellent chill zone with access to our deck overlooking the sea:

It's quite nice here. :

I'd be happy staying anywhere with easy Inner London links, without pets as I'm allergic to fur. I can cope with chickens. ;)

We have PS2, Wii, A fenced trampoline, sky telly and an 18ft pool. If anyone might be interested, speak up and we can swap emails.

oh, I've never wished ilived in Inner London before and suddenly I do!

Lovely Judge Nutmeg: but do yu want to give your name away on those jpeg filenames?

piratecat · 24/07/2008 11:19

Judge nutmeg, your place looks so peaceful.

I am in sarf devon, so it wuoldn't be very exciting for you!

also, your name, is it form Big night out by any chance!?

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 11:21

I have 5 bed, 3 floor new build in Norfolk, would love to swop with some of you but can't see dh being up for it.

If he is, will post on thread if anyone is interested...

JudgeNutmeg · 24/07/2008 11:34

Wilf, it's not my name. It's just a name I like and would have chosen for myself. I'm slightly amazed that the pics work! I need to investigate how to get the captions smaller though.

Yes, PirateCat I do like to spin my wheel of justice.

ninedragons · 24/07/2008 12:04

Don't suppose you'd consider Shanghai, QueenBhannae?

There is an outside chance we will not be able to evade a visit to the ILs later this year. They're in Lancaster and not staying under the same roof as them is the key to a healthy relationship.

Art Deco flat, 2 x queen beds, 1 fold-out single plus a cot, French Concession, parquet floors and bay windows, walking distance to everything historic and more shopping than you can poke a stick at.....

legalalien · 24/07/2008 12:30

ooh, JN, I might be interested if I could persuade DH (50 /50 chance I figure). We only have a small trampoline and no pool, but our house is in Zone 2 and has a nice garden for sipping wine in. You'd have to promise to take the electronic games on holiday with you though - or hide them - am trying to avoid their introduction in the legalalien household.

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2008 12:36

Oh I love your views Judge.

No-one is likely to want to go on holiday to Bucks either, sadly. Although should anyone be tempted we have 2 doubles and 1 child's bed.

HaventSleptForAYear · 24/07/2008 12:56

I would love to do this sometime but DH is not keen (security conscious).

We have a big 3 bed house with a huge garden in Normandy with chickens, nice patio, cows in the field behind etc.

5 miles from a small market town and a bit further to a big port.

Like a pp, not sure my house-keeping is up to Mn standards, although, come to think of it, it's mostly my towel-washing that was considering slovenly - people could wash their own towels every day if they really wanted to I suppose!

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 13:24

I would go to Bucks WWW - we struggled to find somewhere to stay when we wanted to visit the Roald Dahl museum - ended up in a dive of a hotel (Gamekeepers Inn or some such thing) in Borehamwood.

Sonnet · 24/07/2008 14:26

FAQ - as it is Northamptonshire.....which can be a beautiful rural county - if you like that sort of thing

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2008 14:31

Oooh Fimbo well we're near enough there.
Where are you?

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2008 14:32

Would no-one be worried mumsnetters would snoop around and JUDGE? Y'know, the books on th eshelves, the food in the cupboard etc etc?
Not that there]s anytihng wrong with either of those in my house, obv

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 24/07/2008 14:38

Eh, eh, eh? Milan, Brussels, Shanghai?

orangina · 24/07/2008 14:40

JN, we might be interested (subject to dh approval etc...)... we live in biggish flat in W London, walking distance from Holland Park, Ken High Street, easy bus/tube links to museums, etc.... I have 2 small dc, so we have cots, high chairs (have no idea how old your dc are). No pets. Your place looks gorgeous! Would you do a long weekend or half term swap?

FAQ · 24/07/2008 15:08

I like beautiful rural countryside Sonnet, but I'm afraid I've never been able to find the "wow" factor here in Northants

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 15:38

I am 6 miles outside Norwich in a village - 2 Waitroses near by!

Lovely village pub with garden and good food. (more is given over to the food side rather than the pub side)

You can get to the North Norfolk Coast in about 30mins.

My only problem is dh

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 15:39

Oops I meant to address my last post to WWW

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2008 16:06

Ooh, Norfolk coast I like sound of. IS that Cromer and Holkham?

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 16:07

Tis indeedy.

Fimbo · 24/07/2008 16:08

Norwich is the 5th best shopping centre in Britain (if you like retail therapy!)

WideWebWitch · 24/07/2008 16:12

lol at 5th best, no I don't like shopping. We have Bicester village, Stowe landscape gardens, oh yes, ROALD DAHL museum (!) nearby. cleaner comes twice a week, Waitrose deliver, no garden mind you but parking for 2 cars (big wupp!) And you can be in London in an hour from Bicester North (Marylebone) or 40 mins from Milton Keynes.

Not an easy sell is it, my house!
