I've got to have an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow. I have to go to the maternity department for it despite no chance of me being pregnant

Daimyum · 17/01/2022 12:29

In our hospital, the pelvic scans are done in the same place as the maternity ones, then abdominal scans in xray drpartment. Yours might be the same

wildthingsinthenight · 17/01/2022 13:21

An no that doesnt sound great then

RainbowZebraWarrior · 17/01/2022 13:41

I've had an abdominal scan and an abdominal and pelvic combined scan recently. Both were done in xray dept. Strange how it differs. Main thing is that they are usually pretty quick to refer If need be. Bloody odd that they didn't mention at appt though @Akire Sounds like it was a definite whoops! afterthought

Akire · 17/01/2022 13:46

I know least not long to wait only a week though another 11 weeks before seen consultant again. Such pain I have hospital 10min walk away but have go on 8 mile round trip pay £££ in taxi because that’s where sent me.

People who have been sent for an abdominal scan... what was it for if you don't mind me asking? I literally have no idea? All I can think is that diabetics are predisposed to NAFLD and one of my liver markers was slightly up?

Arghh Akire. What a pain for you! I have a hospital 4 minutes from me. They are really good at making sure all my apts are there if need be. Some ot the Rheumy consultants mainly work out of another hospital in the next county, but they know I struggle to travel, so come to my local one. The only exceptions are if I need to go to the big teaching hospital in the City for Immunology, or the Specialist heart hosp which also has the main ENT for NE England. Thankfully all of my Mums and DDs appts are also at the local one. I'm in a bit of a spin at the minute as I'm there every week, but often taking DD and Mum at different times on same day too.
Daimyum · 17/01/2022 13:56

I've always thought it was insensitive to have them all in same place. Always lots of babies and excited families around (pre covid). I always had it in back of my mind, what if having tests for infertility or having a lot of problems, would not want to have babies shoved in your face. Also if not pregnant, everybody there knows you have problems down there, if in xray, don't get tgat

Akire · 17/01/2022 13:58

Apparently everything below belly button is classed as pelvic pain/area. Suppose for a man that’s right but women generally consider only womb/Gyn issues as pelvic.

Think mines ultra sound womb due to pain and bleeding issues but who knows

I had abdominal scan after suffering extreme reflux and being diagnoses with hiatus hernia via endoscopy. They sent me for abdominal scan to check pancreas, liver and other organs in case more scary issue

I got sent for abdominal and pelvic scan last year after ticking too many possible boxes for ovarian cancer, which thankfully it wasn't

I agree @Daimyum which is why I was surprised to hear of this happening. Seems like something they should be on the ball about avoiding if poss.

HerRoyalHappiness · 17/01/2022 14:22

My scan is for non alcoholic fatty liver because im a fatty. Grin I'm not too worried.

wildthingsinthenight · 17/01/2022 14:26

My abdo ultrasounds are done in x ray and are for liver disease PSC (Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis) which I developed in 2000 from having long term Ulcerative Colitis. Some people just develop it

RainbowZebraWarrior · 17/01/2022 20:43

Anyone else who wants to join the WhatsApp chat, please PM me.

If not, no problem. I'm staying here for the duration anyway. We fought long and hard to even get this board.

Hope everyone is ok tonight. My Mum told me to watch Geordie Hospital. I'm from the NE. Not sure about the Geordie thing. I feel like it's an affliction I'd rather not be associated with at times

HerRoyalHappiness · 17/01/2022 20:48

I'm ok
I'm just wondering if I should get a shower tonight or in the morning. Hmmm
Think I'll go in the morning, wake myself up for the day ahead.

wildthingsinthenight · 17/01/2022 21:09

I am recording it Rainbow

I like medical programmes. God knows why?! Hmm
My fave is Gps behind closed doors. I think it's nosiness!
I'm shattered tonight and had a very quiet day really. Did a load of washing, tidied up the bedroom and cooked tea.
Looking forward to my friend coming round tmrw for a catch up. She has fibromyalgia and a prolapsed disc so joins us with chronic pain sadly. We'll have a natter and a moan together and put the world to rights.

HerRoyalHappiness showers feel like a major mission sometimes

HerRoyalHappiness · 17/01/2022 21:12

Showers are definitely a major mission. Easier now I have a shower seat, but even then I find it difficult to lift my legs in

Akire · 17/01/2022 22:05

Good have friends who understand @wildthingsinthenight sounds like you did loads today.

Often have decide shower or do something basic instead. Hard when can’t take things for granted. People have no idea!

I usually enjoy a warm shower sitting down and find it helps with pain, but I always have a packet of baby wipes in just in case, they come in handy on bad days.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 17/01/2022 22:29

I can't cope with showers. We have a tiny cubicle with a shower seat but I lack so much feeling and strength in my feet and ankles that I struggle so much to get to the sitting position and need DH to help me the whole way through.

The bath lift is still amazing. I can use a zimmer to get into the bathroom, get changed whilst sat on the loo with nobody watching and get myself in and out of the bath as long as he had put towels etc to hand.

There is nothing quite as humiliating as having your husband shower you, wash your legs and feet and under boobs and shave legs for you at 36 years old.

Exactly! People really have no idea. My mum still struggles to understand. She'll call for a chat and ask what I've been up to and I'll just outright lie. I can't stand the 3rd degree each time.

The bath lift sounds amazing. I've stopped having baths as I can't trust I'll be able to put all my weight on my wrists to get out. Luckily I prefer showers
OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/01/2022 01:00

i both love and loathe showers. I like to be clean but the pain and horrendous fact that i have to have help is a LOT. even just the water on my skin hurts me, the cold air when i get out hurts me, the towel hurts me when it touches me,,,,,, i could go on, :(

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/01/2022 07:14
