Bastards are taking away my codeine. Upping stupid amitryptaline that does fuck all.

Must be lovely to sit there all fancy and not in pain and make decisions on how bad somebody else's pain is. Bitch.

Akire · 04/10/2021 17:19

Why have they taken it away? On basis of well you are still in pain so no point… long term use clap trap?

@cricketmum84 that’s shocking did they give you a reason? If they took away my codeine I wouldn’t be able to do much at all, certainly not work.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 04/10/2021 17:42

@cricketmum84 that's awful!

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 17:43

I thought from what I read recently that if patients had a cause of the pain, then doctors were supposed to leave you on codeine - and focus on assisting with the chronic pain cases where there's no known cause, using other means like physio, therapy?

I definitely read that in a report summary.

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 17:43

Yep "blah blah long term use, blah blah addiction" etc etc etc.

I'm absolutely fuming. And really very very worried how I am going to cope without it.

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 17:44

Her answer was "well there's not much that can help nerve pain"

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 17:44

And obviously not just stop it.

Akire · 04/10/2021 19:39

I’m so annoyed for you, they not leave a dog in pain but it’s well this is best for you. Even if make you live unbearable. But there is no duty or care to provide additional support before take it away. If they said right in 3months time we are going stop as nothing much can do BUT we arrange counsellor for you deal with the change and how this is going affect you emotional and mentally. And this is what other things we haven’t done etc etc just NOTHING I’m so sad for you

No one wants to be on codeine it’s not a choice, I know I don’t get up on the morning and think yey it’s time to take my dihydrocodeine Grin I try to take as little as I possibly can balancing out how much I can tolerate the pain with how many I take a day (right now that’s only 4 how can you get addicted to 4 a day) but you feel like you have to fight for those 4 little tablets a day to keep you just pain free enough so that I can go to work, go out with my family, sleep well enough etc and actually have a life. For some of us that may be more than 4.

I think that’s shocking to just take that away from someone, it’s like taking their life away Angry I’m so angry for you @cricketmum84

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 19:57

Oh also... she suggested that my pain levels might improve if I took up an evening run 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 19:59

What are you on, @cricketmum84? Is it Zapain or similar?

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 20:09

Now on 40mg amitryptaline and was taking 2 X 15/500 cocodamol twice a day x

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 21:31

@cricketmum84

Goodness, that's not a lot really (of codeine).

Have you got enough to at least cut down the codeine very gradually?

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 21:41

I've got enough for 2 twice a day until Thursday. Have an extra 16 codeine 15mg tabs from my mum so could try only taking it when things are really bad but I don't see how it is fair that I am left in a situation where I have to get to those pain levels!!!

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 04/10/2021 21:42

It's not fair at all. I hate the idea that others know our pain better than us. We know what works for our body and what helps ease the pain. And that's all it does, ease it a bit. I bet if they lived in constant pain they'd be much more understanding

Worrysaboutalot · 04/10/2021 21:52

cricketmum84 That is awful taking the codeine off you with out allowing you to taper down or at least mentally get your head around the idea!

How does the doctor expect you to go for an evening run when you can barely walk a few steps?

Also big woo hoo in doing three steps, that is brilliant news. Hope you heal as much and as quickly as possible.

Hopefully the Amitriptyline will kick in for you. Everyone is different.

I have just moved up to 30mcg og Amitriptyline and hoping it will kick in in the next 3 weeks and 3 days. But I might have to admit defeat and ask for a small increase in my Gabapentin now, as that works within three days.

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2021 22:11

I'm wondering if I call again in the morning and ask to speak to a different doctor.

Just had my 40mg amitryptaline but left out the codeine but will take some up to bed with me in case I wake in pain.

She has, at least, referred me to the pain clinic.

Honestly could have laughed out loud when she suggested running!

Although managed another 4 steps again today with my 17yo walking in front of me with the frame in case I started to lost balance.

Evenstar · 04/10/2021 22:20

I think you should definitely speak to another doctor, with that comment about going for a run I would worry that they hadn’t read your notes properly or confused you with someone else.

My repeat prescription is due and I haven’t heard from the chemist so will have to chase that tomorrow. I have no petrol so can’t even get there, DH will have to take me after he has taken me to my appointment for my foot (hopefully final check up 🤞🏻)

SpindleWhirl · 04/10/2021 22:26

I sent you a PM, @cricketmum84. This really needs bringing to the Practice Manager's attention - you need a chance to taper.

cricketmum84 · 05/10/2021 07:32

@HerRoyalRisesAgain

I'm exhausted. Had DD at hospital today about her recurring UTIs. They've said she has a small bladder and her trying to hold her urine is what's causing the infections. Tomorrow I have to take my cat to the vet as his blind eye has become gunky and on Wednesday I have DS1 at hospital for his regular heart checks! I've got my Amytryptiline now. I've to wean myself up to 50mg of it daily so hopefully that will help me sleep
I'm sure you already know this but if you speak to school they will give her a toilet pass so she doesn't have to hold it as much.

We had similar with DD2, she had problems with her bowel and kept getting impacted and on permanent laxatives from holding it.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 05/10/2021 07:38

Yeah i spoke to school when I dropped her off after her appointment so hopefully that will help. We have 2 toilets at home so I've told the boys to leave the downstairs toilet free for me and DD to use

cricketmum84 · 05/10/2021 07:46

Ah that's good @HerRoyalRisesAgain.

Did they say if it will improve as she grows?

Hope all goes well at the vets today!

I've just taken 1 co-codamol this morning and 1 paracetamol... this is ridiculous.

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 05/10/2021 07:48

Hopefully it will ease as she grows.

Hopefully the vets is just some antibiotics for his gunky eye (he's blind in it) and he doesn't need it removing.

Gilead · 05/10/2021 10:55

Hello everyone, hope today is a good day for you all.
