TENS blocks nerve signals to brain so you have play around with pads. Things like fingers and hands have millions more nerve endings so it is uncomfortable zapping but you can change levels. Play around with pads on elbows or even shoulders and see sometimes they don’t make sense but then I should paid more attention in biology.

I use on my head for migraine (only one of blow yourself into oblivion) and that isn’t pleasant but certainly better than pain.

Just tried 30 mins tens on my ankle but I'm not sure it's helped.

It's confusing as online it says high strength tens can make nerve damage worse but low level can encourage nerve repair (which would be amazing). However I have reduced sensation (even though it hurts like fuck - work that one out!) so I can't tell what's a high strength or a low! My machine goes from 1-100 so I tried 40 but I couldn't feel any pulsing or anything?

Akire · 29/09/2021 10:30

Are you sure it’s working? If you stick both pads on stomach you can feel them right? Could try putting them just below your knee if pain is below point where you are blocking nerve pain it should in theory do something reduce.

I'm going to get DH to try it when he gets home from work.

It's the revitive that you put your feet on to improve circulation but doubles up as a TENS.

When I have my feet on it I don't feel anything unless I put it up to 80! DH and my DSis tried it and couldn't get past 5 before they were struggling with the sensation!

Akire · 29/09/2021 10:52

Maybe it’s not for you with nerve damage. I can have it mega high for period pain but feet hands even low is painful. Don’t want you doing more damage.

How did everyone else manage in the end today?

My hips are killing but I'm ok. Broke things off with the man I've been seeing for the last 11 months. He's just decided now to tell me he wants to be a dad and I canr provide that for him. Another pregnancy could leave me paralysed. So that's that finished. At least he told me before he met my kids

Akire · 29/09/2021 21:05

Oh no that’s rubbish. Quite long term of that was essential for him at some point. Good that your kids havnt had go through a break up so one small positive x

Very stiff at the moment with the change in the weather. I have been to see my chiropractor today though and she managed to shift everything into place and told me I should rest and drink plenty for the rest of the day. I slept for a couple of hours this afternoon and am feeling a little better.

Akire · 29/09/2021 21:31

Funny my hip killing me this morning. Had same problem last winter but when I had scan they said ye it’s fine not arthritis but it feels like it is. Looks like winters going be fun this year.

Glad you have some temp relief @Evenstar

Sorry you’ve had a rotten day @HerRoyalRisesAgain. 💐
@Akire, arthritis doesn’t always show on x rays, it can depend on type and development. I have had psoriatic arthritis since I was 14, the osteoarthritis developed a few years ago. The psoriatic frequently doesn’t show but the swelling on the outside can be clearly visible.

I will ask consultant about Tens I think. Like @cricketmum84, my left leg is numb externally, but flaming painful inside.

cricketmum84 · 29/09/2021 21:48

@Gilead it's frustrating isn't it! No sensation but extreme pain! Doesn't even make sense... I'm going to check in with my neuro rehab about the tens and see what they say.

@Akire my mum really suffers with arthritis in her hip. I've been buying her cbd cream which has really helped her. You just put it on the skin where the joint pain is. She went from barely being able to manage the stairs to taking the dog for a long walk then baking 3 cakes lol.

@HerRoyalRisesAgain sorry to hear that Thanks hope you are holding up ok. We are always here if you need to talk. Yes good that you don't have to deal with the kids asking questions so at least that's a bonus. Still sad for you though love ❤️

Akire · 29/09/2021 21:50

Thanks for tip, I can’t walk so not like I really have move it very much but does hurt on transfers especially in morning.

Feeling bit blah tonight think it’s end summer curtains closing earlier and long time till Xmas!

@HerRoyalRisesAgain, ouch, that's such a blow after 11 months of seeing someone. I'm so sorry.

Just checking in not a good day for me either. I’ve been on cerazette the mini pill for CCD about 8 years non stop for painful periods (not allowed regular pill anymore because of age and migraines) everything was great no periods for all that time then in the last 4 months bam periods back with a vengeance. The day after DD1s so regular and very very heavy. I know tomorrow is going to be tough too. I don’t know if it’s got anything to do with being peri menopausal now I’m 46??

Getting to speak to a GP is horrendous just now they have a phone call triage system, call on the morning (wait ages to see if you can get an appointment) the. The doctor will call you back between 9-1 or 1-5pm now I’m working I can’t wait by a phone you have 3 rings to answer the phone or you’ve had it and I don’t want to be discussing my personal issues in a corridor thanks. So what do I do take a day off work?? I don’t think it’s ever going to go back to the old system of phone and get an appointment. It’s especially unfair on us with chronic conditions on medication who have been told to see a GP regularly.

Worrysaboutalot · 30/09/2021 08:43

cricketmum84 & gilead
I am the same numbness from my bustline down to my toes. With zero feeling in my toes and limited feeling (like dead skin Sad) above.

Yet, I have a lot of pain, cold, soreness in my legs with no touch.

However if my child brushes past my feet I am in extreme pain!

None of it makes sense.

Gilead · 30/09/2021 10:03

this is what I have.
Caused by a spinal block when I had an emergency colectomy back in May.

cricketmum84 · 30/09/2021 10:21

How annoying though that it's someone's mistake that caused that!

Since we are sharing this is mine 🤣 www.nhs.uk/conditions/peripheral-neuropathy/symptoms/

I have both sensory and motor neuropathy.

I’ve been on same drug for same reason as you but only 3m in so not much effect so far. The phone pick up awful when you can’t just step outside, they should be offering face to face. Can you answer in hallway (they know roughly what issue is from e consult) and say at work no privacy it’s sensitive issue so you need a face to face so you can talk freely or at X time before or after work. They can’t say well if you don’t discuss it in public place we can’t offer any medical care. Although if you are desperate a day off May be the fastest thing.

I have managed to walk my dogs to the park and back today and the swelling on my foot has gone down enough to wear my (well broken in) walking boots.

I didn’t walk too far when I got to the park as I knew I had to get home (DH would have got me if I was really stuck) and I was very slow and glad to sit down when I got home, but I did it.

I was sort of pushed into trying as I have been driving down to the park since I started taking the dogs out again after my operation, but now I am almost completely out of petrol! Things are no better round here despite what they are saying about it easing.

Sorry to hear some of us are having a bad day with pain 💐

Akire · 30/09/2021 16:04

Managed pull my back today emptying the washing machine. Sigh nothing a few days not sort and lucky I don’t have rush around. Always something popping up for fun.

Akire - yesterday I was showing the kids how to jump today I have a pulled muscle in my leg talk about being unfit Blush

I think your right I will just have to bite the bullet and tell the receptionist I need a private face-to-face appointment last time I had to tell the GP I was getting really depressed and anxious over the phone in the playground not great! The thing I don’t get is loads of people are now back at work why are GPs so different? Even dentists are seeing patients now.

Im extra grumpy tonight too as I have a sore throat caused by being in a room with 6 children with runny noses and coughs. At least 3 should have been kept at home today they weren’t well coughing all over the place (apparently negative so it’s fine Hmm)

Hope everyone has a restful nights sleep

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 01/10/2021 08:00

My ankle gave out on me and now I've got pins and needles in it. Bloody body is falling apart

Akire · 01/10/2021 12:33

Back is slightly better, putting socks on was fun! First time had socks and shoes autumn is defo here. Had be carefully around which way go though I know most of bumping pavements in wheelchairs. Went long way down one road and man coming thought no I’m not moving out way as pavement was slopping already. I stopped, he stopped he eventually moved. One man chicken game won! Sick of men thinking world owns them favour. Also man peeing against wall in park I wouldn’t normally say anything but made plenty of disguising noises as I went passed Grin
