Ds's are both ridiculously excited that they're getting their Christmas pyjamas tonight. I remember thinking years ago it's a really cute tradition - now I just think blardy hell I've got to go and buy some sodding pyjamas for them! .

Yep, 1st time for us. She ripped the parcel open and was so excited. It was when she asked if she could wear them! I mean she just had her bath, and was only in a vest.

Merry Christmas everyone.

FolornHope · 24/12/2009 20:22

if i gave my kids pjs they would be WELL pissed off

tulpe · 24/12/2009 20:33

We always have new PJs on Christmas Eve and new dressing gowns. Have done for about 7 years now.

Am particularly impressed with the ones DH chose for me this year Am MNing in them now!

It isn't "a pile of wank". Tis a lovely tradition. My DCs were so excited as soon as I disappeared after supper to "prepare" the sitting room . As soon as they saw the parcels beneath the tree they shouted "New PJs!!!".

It's part of our family ritual for Christmas and that makes it important and special to all of us. I always had incredibly crap christmas' as a child - which I won't go into here. The delight on my DCs faces as they come to know and recognise our traditions is very important to me and DH. It's a total joy

cornysxmasmuffmusic · 24/12/2009 20:38

don't they like getting new ones then Forlorn? Mine really like it.

CurtainTwitcher · 24/12/2009 20:54

every year I do this for mine and we always had them as children. DH always dusts off his one pair of simpsons xmas pjs aswell

BadPoet · 24/12/2009 21:07

We always do new pjs on Christmas eve and every year dd gets progressively more disappointed that it's not something more exciting that she's getting to open . She actually sobbed this evening and said the whole day had been ruined . I will continue to do them though, but I might not wrap them next year and let them pick one other gift to open (we always did that as kids)

Eve4Walle · 24/12/2009 21:14

We do new PJs too.

DD had her new Tinkerbell ones and DS had some ridic but very cute Woody Toy Story ones from M&S Ahh

carocaro · 24/12/2009 21:19

new pj's in their stockings to spend the whole of christmas day in!

PoppetOne · 24/12/2009 21:21

What a wonderful tradition! My DD is 9 mo tomorrow but I will definitely start this next year. Thanks MN (again)! Merry Christmas to all!

Mamazontopofsantabeingrude · 24/12/2009 21:22

my two get special christmas PJ's sent to them from santa on christmas eve.
they are magic and help them fall asleep cos everyone knows that santas magic doesnt work if your awake.

littlebellsmum · 24/12/2009 21:29

OH yes - mine are off to bed in theirs. Left by the reindeers last night in our house. Only started it last year but they knew exactly what was in their parcels today and were very excited!

DottyDot · 24/12/2009 21:30

awww - well we made reindeer dust and it's been liberally sprinkled along the pavement and up our drive.

Then they opened their Christmas pyjamas and love them!

Then off to bed and we're waiting now for the little sods angels to fall asleep so we can sneak the pillowcases in...

I'm right in the Christmas spirit now - but that could be down to the generous amount of port I drank to get through making reindeer dust earlier with 9 children aged 8 and under!

I looked everywhere for some lovely P.J's for my daughter or a nightdress. I didn't find any I liked though. I liked the Monsoon ones but they were about £26 I like lovely traditional nightwear for Christmas. M&S had some lovely ones last year, but I was disapointed this year. Tonight she's gone to bed wearing the one from last year. It still fit's her, so I'm not too fussed.

willynilly · 24/12/2009 22:04

God, this Xmas stuff is all a bit syrupy for my liking. Have I logged on to netmums by mistake? My DD is only 7m, so too young for Xmas this year really. Maybe in a couple of years I too will be swept along by this nonsense...but I doubt it

PictureThis · 24/12/2009 22:08

DD has her xmas pj's on. Mum always did this for us so just carrying on the tradition

reallywoundup · 24/12/2009 22:10

everyone in new jammas here, kids always have a bath before coming downstairs in towels and 'discovering' parcels under the tree- new jim jams and slipper socks, then we have a snuggly 'buffet' and stay in our new jammas all day tomorrow (door locked, no-one in, no-one out )

Hulababy · 24/12/2009 22:13

The Christmas Fairy always leaves a wrapped parcel under my parent's tree on the morning of Christmas Eve for my DD. We always visit for dinner, after visiting other family. The parcel always has new nightwear. DD gets to put them on and go home in the car in them. DD loves the whole ritual.

Today's christmas nightwear was a beautiful pink nightie from JL. The Christmas fairy has lovely taste!

I have new PJs coming, from my parents, tomorrow - was tempted to find them tonigh, but have resisted.

JACKIEwrappingPAPER · 24/12/2009 22:23

DD has just vomited over her brand new expensive disney velour pyjamas

ja9 · 24/12/2009 22:48

we do them here, although don't give as a pressie, just produce them as they step out of the bath. both dc chuffed to be in lovely new pjs... i just LOVE pjs. Boden and White Company this yr... spoiling ourselves

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 24/12/2009 22:57

Yes, we do this too

Not off Father Christmas though - they're off us.

We've been doing it for years now and the children love it! They were wrapped and on their beds for when they got out of the bath ...they couldn't get out of the bath and to their bedrooms quick enough!!
They were thrilled with them!

FH - "a pile of wank"? - to you maybe. My kids love it.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 24/12/2009 22:58

The christmas 'fairy' brings mine new pjs gowns and slippers on christmas eve only if they are extra good

they love it!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 24/12/2009 23:00

i got all new stuff too. I AM such a big kid!

I read a thread a few weeks ago where someone did this and thought it was a great idea so tonight we did our first Christmas Eve PJ's and my DD's loved it so it will be our new xmas tradition. We followed it with watching the Snowman and then the poem "The Night Before Christmas". It was a wonderful evening.

The PJ's were supposed to be from us but my daughter just assumed that FC brought them so I guess we'll stick with that notion although I do like the idea of Jack Frost bringing them.

nooka · 24/12/2009 23:20

I've given the children new PJs at Christmas for ages, mostly because they need them, and this is the best time of year to buy traditional PJs, which I much prefer. It's nice to give them on Christmas Eve at bedtime, because then they are wearing them on Christmas morning. I also give them a new outfit each, again because they are usually short of clothes, and because in my family we have a tradition of dressing up for the evening meal on Christmas Day. This year as we will be going tobogganing on Christmas Day there will be lots of clothes changing going on! I don't wrap the PJs though - I think the children might be a little disappointed! But up to a couple of years ago they would have been an exciting present.
