I did mine today. Was going to wait until pay day next week but decided i couldn't face doing it with 3 dc when dp at work.
Was chaos and spent far far too much but hopefully got 2 weeks worth of food (we are visiting relations a couple of days).
Am now tucking into Baileys and peanuts both of which we never buy!!
They didn't have any tins of chocs though and i like to have tin of quality streets on the table

i went to Tesco mid afternoon yesterday, it was busy but not horrendously so

loads of stock as well

HappyMummyOfOne · 22/12/2009 09:08

Mines arriving tonight, luckily we only had light snow so there should be no problems with the delivery. Had no out of stock items last year so fingers crossed again for this year.

gingernutlover · 22/12/2009 09:15

got mine delivered last night by sainsburys. Was meant to come between 6 and 7 but we have lots of snow here so it finally turned up at nearly 10 pm. Poor delivery chap only one sub so pretty good and all the veg are in date til at least xmas day result!

lorrycat · 22/12/2009 09:22

I cheated this year. I booked a home delivery from sainsburys so i don't have to battle the crowds so i'm very proud of myself.

Its getting delivered this evening when i get home from work.

Mind you...i was stupid enough to not have enough food at home to last until xmas eve, so when DP asked me last night what was for tea, he got a very blank look in response lol.

So off we all trudged to the supermarket to get some supplies for the next day or two and thankfully it wasn't too bad at all. Only hiccup was DS, who was getting very tired after a stressful day in creche (santa visit that petrified him - bless )

traceybath · 22/12/2009 09:22

Mine's coming today - am expecting sainsburys, cheese and turkey but our lane is very icy.

Apparently having spoken to sainsburys if they can't get through they'll take it back to store and we can collect it from there.

Will feel much happier when I've got all my deliveries but obviously don't want the drivers risking their lifes for my food.

Jacaqueen · 22/12/2009 09:22

GetOrf you are so right. I really really dont want to do that but on top of the snow and ice we have freezing fog here today and Asda is the only shop I can get the bus to.

It should be OK as DH is daft enough to drive in any weather conditions. Especially in his pick-up.

Just writing definitive list now and waiting for mum to phone in her order.

whispywhisp · 22/12/2009 09:25

We have had a good few inches of snow here (all day yesterday and last night) - it has settled on frozen snow/black ice from the previous couple of nights and we now have freezing fog...I only hope Asda make it here tomorrow!!!

pugsandseals · 22/12/2009 11:28

Left center parcs at 10am yesterday, reached waitrose at 3.30pm, got all the christmas food & home by 5 (Phew!). Blizzards at home by 6 so feeling very relieved. Not going anywhere else before xmas, now just staring at the piles of washing
Never seen so many snow plough's in my life! So if anyone wants to know why their road isn't gritted it's because they are all on the M6!

mistletoekisses · 22/12/2009 13:02

All done in waitrose this morning. It was already packed. Only item they didnt have, fresh cranberries! Will have to try and find some tomorrow when I collect the turkey from the lurvely butchers....

InThisSequinBraYesYouOlaJordan · 22/12/2009 13:17

Arrived at Sainsburys at 7.15 and home for 8.15. All done, including emergency supplies for if we are snowed in for christmas.

pigleychez · 22/12/2009 13:22

I just nipped into Sainsburys to buy some emergency nappies for DD as we had run out (bad mummy)

took me an hour just to buy one packet of nappies as it was absoutely heaving!!

nannyl · 22/12/2009 18:54

i have been to both Tesco extra and waitrose today... around lunchtime ish

both were not overly busy, infact in tesco they had free checkouts, with staff waiting but no queue at all!

TheArmadillo · 22/12/2009 19:10

MIL taking Dp doing big shop and butchers tomorrow while I'm at work. We've preordered ham and turkey from butchers. We got most of the veg today (I am fussy so wanted to pick it myself) - he just has to brave the hell that is asda for the heavy stuff tomorrow.

NEver have I felt so happy to be going to work

As I am at work on xmas eve as well I have told dp he is responsible for doing a deep clean of the house as well.

He is going to be knackered by xmas day as ds is so overexcited looking after him is exhausting enough.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 23/12/2009 08:08

Got my last few bits yesterday , when ds did his bag pack.
Am officially finished

OP posts:
LizzyLordsALeaping · 23/12/2009 08:11

DS1 didn't manage to get to the bag pack, his slot was at 10am and DH turned back at Crawshawbooth.
Feel bad, but next door neighbour didn't go for his slot either.
Was there a lot there?

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 23/12/2009 08:15

I think quite a few didn't go , i managed to get H there but we were early. I needed to get some shopping bits in so just took him then and brought him back when i had finished.
Brought my shopping home via sledge
Spoke to head and mentioned you had come yesterday he said it was very hairy near you this am!

poshtottie · 23/12/2009 08:49

I set off to Waitrose about half an hour ago and only got round the corner. Its a bloody skating rink out there!. DH had to come and rescue me.

Have now sent dh. Will probably only come back with half the shopping though.

LizzyLordsALeaping · 23/12/2009 08:51

I think DH wasn't keen on going anyway, they went sledging instead (despite him moaning that it would be too cold standing by the door of Asdas!). Have just told him off as he should have persevered.

And we needed some bits as well!

bunnymother · 23/12/2009 08:58

I thought I had all my groceries sorted as used Ocado, but due to roads closed/jammed due to snow, some of their suppliers and staff couldn't reach Ocado, so just did what they could. But it means many people have some/lots of items missing.

So... now I have only part of my groceries and have to brave Waitrose today with baby DD. Oh what fun for me. Looking forward to trying to track down cocktail blinis on 23 December.

LizzyLordsALeaping · 23/12/2009 09:01

BUnny, I bet it won't be as bad as you're expecting, assuming you can brave the snow and ice.

bunnymother · 23/12/2009 10:14

Thanks, Lizzy, I hope it won't be. I have the turkey and vege, although Ocado rang me last night in a panic saying they had "lost" my turkey. Thank God they were wrong - that was one way to get my heart rate up...

I will bundle baby DD up and trudge out and see what I can get.

whispywhisp · 23/12/2009 10:15

My Asda slot is this morning between 10-12...I am waiting to see/hear whether or not they will deliver. Where we live cars still can't get up the hill - it is solid ice and we have freezing fog. DH hasn't gone to work yet but plans to later on so if needs be he will get the shopping on his way home. If he can't get any of it it'll be toast for Xmas Day!

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 23/12/2009 11:26

Hope all those who have done online orders get theirs , am glad i left it too late to get one now as there is no way anyone could deliver up to here!

OP posts:
whispywhisp · 23/12/2009 12:07

Just had a phone call from Asda....delivery driver couldn't get up the hill we live on so we walked down and arranged for him to dump it in someone's front garden and we've just carried it all up the hill, bag by bag (he wouldn't leave the crates). Had quite a few substitutions...some of which are no good (substituting 4 x 4pints of milk for 4 x 1 pints!...) but can't complain - atleast we've got enough to be going on with.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 23/12/2009 21:07

Phew Whispy close call , at least its here...
