I did mine today. Was going to wait until pay day next week but decided i couldn't face doing it with 3 dc when dp at work.
Was chaos and spent far far too much but hopefully got 2 weeks worth of food (we are visiting relations a couple of days).
Am now tucking into Baileys and peanuts both of which we never buy!!
They didn't have any tins of chocs though and i like to have tin of quality streets on the table

Gah I was going today early but am in bed feeling sorry for myself so that idea has gorn out the window. Was wondering if I might feel well enough to venture out just before lunch for half a shop but dh has just rung to tell me the roads are ice rinks so may not bother! I hate driving on the ice AND MY HEAD HURTS!

LizzyLordsALeaping · 21/12/2009 08:35

WE just need some fresh veg and stuff, picking up Capon and Venison (for pie) on Christmas Eve, from butchers up the road. We had to get some emergency supplies yesterday as we were supposed to be going down to my family in the Midlands (we backed out at Northwich).

Snowy isn't it, Lily?

I think sleigh is the best form of transport round here at the minute Lizzy

Lily, caught bus today to Asda with DS1 to do the PTA bag pack.

It is tomorrow!

Never mind, boys are off sledging with DH and I am writing my last shopping list, not MNing at all, oh no!

Main roads are pretty clear.

MrsMattie · 21/12/2009 11:31

Done it online with Tesco - coming tomorrow.

kept within budget initially, but keep going back and adding further treats to the order...

Just nipped into Sainsbo's for some milk and it was horrendous. I can't deal with all the panic buying and pushing and shoving.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 21/12/2009 12:25

Lizzy nearly had me panicking there. I actually confirmed the day as it wasn't on the letter with times on. Poor you!!
Yeah dp managed to get to work this am , said main road was still bad at 7.30 this morning and nothing in Manchester , typical!!
Doubt this will have melted by Fri , just want roads to clear tbh!

Mrs Mattie , i am dreading going into my local for my last bits later this week , hate all the crowds too!

Back from tescos Some old lady pushed me over. I'm soooo pathetic when I'm ill....

whispywhisp · 21/12/2009 15:41

So glad I did my Xmas food shop online this year....I know Asda won't let me down despite the roads being so icy/snow laden....they've delivered before to me in this weather so I'm fairly confident they will again this year....I hate driving in the snow/ice - scary!

LillianGish · 21/12/2009 15:50

All done except for a bit of veg and fruit. Unfortunately there are still several days to go before we get into my Christmas menus - and that's another story. What are we going to eat until then? Can't even be bothered to think about it!

LizzyLordsALeaping · 21/12/2009 16:30

Done all mine now in a spurt of energy, now must clean and tidy my house.
DH is picking up nice cheese from deli place.
Shops weren't too bad at all.
Loads of knob heads driving too fast on the roads though

SeeYouAtDartsDarling · 21/12/2009 16:33

Cannot believe it...Tesco's just delivered a mahoosive shop with no substitutions. [/faints]

I'm a bit worried...I have a Sainsbury's delivery booked for tomorrow, which I've been gradually doing over the last 3 weeks. Did the final bit this morning but it's now been snowing for the last 2 hours and there's a message on their website saying some deliveries are being cancelled due to the weather. The big roads are clear round here (north london), but the side roads (including ours) were already like skating rinks and now they're covered in snow as well.

So I was feeling dead smug, but I'm not going to be able to relax until 6pm tomorrow now. If it doesn't come, I'm going to have to brave Sainsbury's or Tesco's, either at some ungodly hour tomorrow night, or on Xmas eve - as Wednesday is my birthday and I refuse to be fighting the hordes then .

tispity · 21/12/2009 22:07

no delivery slots anywhere - can't believe it (was not this bad last year!). i have taken a deep breath and ordered from abel&cole (they deliver closest to christmas day too)

oldraver · 21/12/2009 22:15

I was hoping to do most of it on Wednesday, I've got stuff to collect from Waitrose.

DS is back from University and doing a night shift at Sainsburys. I had hoped he would volunteer to get some stuff

mumeeee · 21/12/2009 23:39

Yes DH and I bought the drinks on Friday and I did the food shop today. MIL is bringing some stuff down on Wednesday We'll probably have enough to fed an army.

brimfull · 21/12/2009 23:44

dh and I did it this evening in waitrose
it was dead , fantastic

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/12/2009 23:49

Me and dd went to Sainsbos this evening. It was strangely fine - not busy at all.

I overspent wildly and still haven't got everything. But have got everything for Cbristmas lunch which is all that matters.

Am going to Waitrose tomorrow to stock up on treats (pates and salmon mainly) and DP will do the booze shop at some point, probably 10pm on Christmas eve, knowing him!

I'm going later today. Preferably on my own when DH gets in from work. However if the roads are bad we will have to all go tonight in the truck. What fun that will be.

I want to go to M&S as I have about £60 of reward vouchers from my credit card. However we will also have to go to Tesco/Asda for some other crap. Plus have to do an old lady shop for my mum. Even though she is here on Christmas Day and at my sisiters on Boxing Day, she still insists on buying in loads of food.

If I absolutely have to I can get the bus to Asda tomorrow with the boys. But I will try and avoid that at all costs.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2009 08:55

Jacaqueen - Asda? In school holidays? Day before Christmas Eve? With children?

No, you really really don't want to do that! I went to Asda on Subday, it was utter chaos and hell.
