No, I don't mean planning whether to have goose or rutney, or even ordering same from M&S.

I mean actually being in Sainsbury's and pondering "oooh I'd better buy some extra oranges for Christmas" or gettin ghome and thinking "oh dear I am almost out of eggs, need some for Chr Day dessert" wtf is going on???? It's a week away!

It's not just me either, Sainsbos was totally empty of cream last night!

rutney? lol

mulledfruitshootandcheese · 17/12/2009 17:45

I've booked an extra delivery slot, left it a bit late though so I got Sunday which is a bit pointless as will now still have to go in for all the veg and stuff.

MrsMattie · 17/12/2009 17:47

I thought runtey must be some terribly posh cut of meat I'd never heard of

There were a couple of ladies of a certain age narking at each other over the last frozen turkey crown in Sainsbo's the other day.

hohoholepew · 17/12/2009 17:47

I was very good and went to buy non-perishables, unfortunely I don't think i've bought enough and will probably run out of everything on Christmas Eve. I leaving my rutney until later.

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/12/2009 17:47

I did my big Christmas shop today - thinking that I will just jimmy up the veggies and hope I remember to take the necessary stuff out of the freezer ...

I just can't bear the thought of grocery shopping next week ...

CybilServant · 17/12/2009 17:47

MrsM you've just called it runtey. it's rutney get it right

Clary · 17/12/2009 17:53

pmsl!

thisparachuteisaknapsack · 17/12/2009 17:54

I'm getting my rutney tomorrow. I'll take a sock full of pennies with me to clear the old ladies out of the way. I'm very short of cream too and I'm slightly panicy about it..

CybilServant · 17/12/2009 17:55

I for one, am all stocked up with rutney. All my Christmas rutney needs are being met. And then on Boxing Day we'll fry up the leftover rutney to have with chutney

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/12/2009 17:55

Christmas is on the Friday isn't it?

Once Christmas is over, my family are on rations ...

Clary · 17/12/2009 17:57

lol @ rutney and chutney

I know Christmas is Friday, but I am certainly not going to Asda betweenthen and Sunday so I will still need some food for then...

Felt very paranoid and socially inadequate at mention of rutney! I reckon it's an obscure cut of venison, myself.

I am getting a bit mad in the supermarket and eyeing stiltons, wads of butter etc. DH had to steer me away from the 'festive creams' the other day, and I don't even like them.

LillianGish · 17/12/2009 18:18

Have almost finished (picking rutney up from butcher Christmas Eve). I had such a nightmare last year after the kids had broken up - never mind queues at tills I had to queue just to park the car. This year checked all my sell-by dates, stashed various things in freezer, just a few last minute veg to get and I will get them locally. It means I can enjoy run up to Christmas doing festive things with the kids instead of racing round the shops.

CybilServant · 17/12/2009 18:19

I have bought not one thing festive yet (food wise)

gingertoo · 17/12/2009 18:19

I've put my brussel sprouts on to boil...

Bonsoir · 17/12/2009 18:20

Absolutely. I went on a big, purposeful Christmas shop to buy wine, cranberries, fruit juice, Lebküchen and other Christmas stuff today, but that isn't the first or last Christmas shop!

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/12/2009 18:21

I think they must put something in to the supermarket airconditioning at this time of year - and it's not festive cheer !!

thisparachuteisaknapsack · 18/12/2009 17:27

Well, I'm back from Sainsbury's. no rutney . I'll be buying it in November next year.

merrycompo · 18/12/2009 17:33

All we've got so far is goose in freezer, cranberry jar in cupboard, fizz and shloer
am impressed I haven't opened the fizz tbh

petalpower · 18/12/2009 20:29

Was hoping to go and do the big non-perishable Christmas shop today before the children finished school for the holidays. All plans scuppered by the snow and children's school being closed! Will now have to fight with the crowds when the snow clears. (Makes note to put rutney on list!)

1973magpie · 18/12/2009 21:36

So far I have After Eights, Animal biscuits, a packet of bread sauce mix and some cranberry sauce.... Oh, and some Baileys... and a vague plan to do some shopping 'at some point' between now and Thursday

It'll be fine, she says, not sure who she's trying to convince...

1973magpie · 18/12/2009 21:37

AND I haven't even decided where to get the rutney from yet either....

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 18/12/2009 21:41

Please tell me the shops won't sell out of Rutney ???
Pay day isn't till Tues!!
