To some people I would think it would seem a pretty expensive thing to just go and buy throughout the year and it will be a treat for them to have it at christmas.

Dull to you maybe but not to them.

FabioTwitterCat · 13/12/2009 15:44

It's cos they smell, innit.

FabioTwitterCat · 13/12/2009 15:45

Or maybe to disguise the smell of sprouty farts in the house.

lol at sprouty farts

ok so what do you think is a dull gift then you guys?

OP posts:
Goober · 13/12/2009 15:46

I think of it as a luxury that I can live without. I wouldn't buy it for myself.

Sorry if I am poor and you find me dull.

TheFoosa · 13/12/2009 15:47

anything bath related

sherby · 13/12/2009 15:48

a pen

pens are so dull

it is the crap present for people who work in offices

Alarmbellsring · 13/12/2009 15:48

depends if you have lots and lots of money doesn't it?

If you can afford to buy expensive perfume all year round then it's hardly a treat to be given it at Christmas.

If you can't afford it, then it's obviously a treat and a nice gift to receive.

Common sense surely?

CirrhosisByTheSea · 13/12/2009 15:48

Speaking as a representative of poor people across the land, maybe it's because perfume (to some) is a luxury they don't buy the rest of the year

oh, to be rich enough to find perfume 'dull'

MeringueUtan · 13/12/2009 15:49

ooh no i like bath stuff
pens YES

MayorNaze · 13/12/2009 15:49

i want perfume as a present so then i don't have to pay for it

the lush karma one, if anyone wants to buy me a present

CirrhosisByTheSea · 13/12/2009 15:49

I think you should re-name yourself OP to something with Marie-Antoinette in the title

"they have no bread? Then let them eat cake!"

"Do they not have perfume all year?"

bellavita · 13/12/2009 15:50
Alarmbellsring · 13/12/2009 15:50

And a dull gift would surely depend on the recipient?

A bid watching book is only interesting to a twitcher non?

We do not all have the same personality as you

Perhaps I could rename too

TheFoosa · 13/12/2009 15:52

If I received anything by 'written' by Katie Price I would be very disappointed

TheFoosa · 13/12/2009 15:53

I once got Ulrika's autobiog for Christmas, was devastated that the giver knew so little about me

Hassled · 13/12/2009 15:54

Body lotion. That's a dull present. I have more body lotion than you can shake a greasy stick at, and I don't even use the stuff.

sherby · 13/12/2009 15:55

a book, mug or dvd about some sport that the person plays once a year

ie golf

ahundredtimes · 13/12/2009 15:55

I find I'm always wanting presents that everyone else thinks are too dull. Like scented candles, I bloody love (nice) scented candles. Nobody ever gives them, because they've become a kind of by word for 'I couldn't think what to get you.'

I'd like a nice pen too - very much indeed actually. And bath stuff. And perfume.

Lord. But it's all homemade this, and thoughtful that and 'brilliant find' at the market.

ahundredtimes · 13/12/2009 15:56

Body lotion - tick. Yes please.

WilfSell · 13/12/2009 16:01

I saw 4 soaps in the Sunday Times. Miller and someone. 35 quid. For soap. Dull AND eye-wateringly expensive.

I'd rather have the perfume.
