I get my mum a Good Housekeeping subscription. But it doesn't have to be that one; lots of magazines to choose from depending on what your mum is interested in.

onesouffle · 11/12/2009 08:54

I've done that for the last 2 years - I think she's a bit bored of them :O Although would never say!

Oh my face didn't work!

Ah yes ikwym - I have done the same but it's what she always seems to ask for.

How about a pamper day somewhere?

We've got PIL membership for the Royal Horticultural Society but visiting posh gardens is their 'thing' so not much good if (like me) you think once you've seen one garden you've seen them all

onesouffle · 11/12/2009 09:10

A pamper day is definitely something I'd like! However she's not really into all that beauty stuff.

She'd be overjoyed with anything I get her as she's so appreciative iykwim! But she does so much for us I want to get her something a bit more interesting and thoughtful

My mum's 63. I have bought her

Stieg Larsson (sp?) book triology
Paloma Faith's new cd
some beautiful wooden earrings
a calendar from dd
3 canvases painted by dd
a lovely photo of her & dd she's not seen printed large in a beautiful frame I made!
this dress which she'll wear over a black polo neck & leggings an this one which I have in 3 colours & she loves.
Am also getting tickets to Flamenco ballet.

misshardbroom · 11/12/2009 11:02

ok, have read monkeysmama's post and now feel like the meanest daughter going!

I am getting my mum a voucher (which I will fashion myself) for a day's course at the Royal College of Needlework (that being her thing). I also have bought her the latest Stephanie Meyer.

She's 64, btw.

Diselfchanted3 · 11/12/2009 11:04

That Elemis set, shes 44.

CMOTdibbler · 11/12/2009 11:06

My mum is 67 - she's getting a photobook of our year (with captions to remind her as has memory problems), and some books.

FIL always has the same mag subscription, and actually gets quite worried that DH won't renew it for him as he enjoys it so much

monkeysmama · 11/12/2009 11:06

I'm very close to my mum , she's great. And she's very "young". She'd think I'd lost the plot if I bought Good Housekeeping etc.

Bucharest · 11/12/2009 11:09

Mine is getting:

That Elemis set
A thingy made of ceramic to attract bees to the garden
A bird table and bath
Jo Malone soaps
The grandparents journal thingy someone linked to a while back
Inspector Morse dvd boxed set
Thornton's chocs
Book about growing up in the 50s.
Photobook and calendar of dd.

(seems a lot, but nothing, I repeat nothing, cost its RRP and a lot of it was hugely coded or ebayed!)

teameric · 11/12/2009 11:11

my mums 63 too and I'm buying her a new bag, a Nica purse, some Fenjal bath oil and a big framed picture of my DC's

saintnickelas · 11/12/2009 11:13

my mum's dead silly, so i have bought her a teddy bear from truprint (special offer) that has a photo of me & OH on his teeshirt! (she collects teddy bears)

she and dad are getting a home-made christmas pudding too (made in a posh bowl)

I'm not allowed to spend a lot of money on her.

oh, and walnut whips, if i can find any!

nettie · 11/12/2009 11:16

A top she asked for and Killers Dvd. She's 62 going on 18

spookycharlotte121 · 11/12/2009 11:17

I have bought my mum:
susan boyles album
some slipper boot things that she has been going on about for ages
and a poetry book she had as a little girl "a childs garden of verse by robert louis stevenson. she waants to read it to my little ones and my niece which i think is cute.
might get her a sodoku book too.

Knownowt · 11/12/2009 11:17

Tickets for Alan Bennett's new play. MiL is getting Nigella's salad hand things and a scarf from Kew.

differentID · 11/12/2009 11:19

I've got my mum a coat, slippers with hard soles, Thornton's special toffee, Long Way Around DVD (we'd brought a different charley Boorman series to watch when we went to visit her in septe and she liked him, so this was the result), and I need to pick up a couple of throws for her.

monkeysmama · 11/12/2009 11:20

What is the Elemis set? I like Elemis!

I got my mum & nanny the grandmother book together last year & my mum says she's had some of her best evenings in years filling it in with her mum & laughing about memories. My nanny is 95 so the stories she puts in there will be so different to dd's life exeriences when she's old enough to read it.

Bucharest · 11/12/2009 11:23

T'is on the promo code thread (all Shiney's fault) It was on QVC last Sunday and MN bought the lot!

saladfingers · 11/12/2009 11:26

Great walnut whips usually for sale at counter in M&S Saintnickelas

Unfortunately my mum dies several years ago but i wish i'd given her the grandparents memories book as there are so many questions i wish i'd asked her

WewishyouaNORTYxmas · 11/12/2009 11:28

I've bought my mum (and MIL) (61 and 63) an electronic photo frame each and a 2Gb card to go in it and crammed it full of family pics.

They also have calendars for next year with photos of my DCs on and homemade cards

WewishyouaNORTYxmas · 11/12/2009 11:29

oh and my mum has the boxed DVD set of Gimme Gimme

SkipToMyLou · 11/12/2009 11:29

I found a silly kitschy vintage brooch of two highland terriers, I know it'll make her smile! I found it online, there's loads of vintage stuff around and it doesn't cost the earth.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 11/12/2009 11:30

spooks on DVD, and a wooden penguin

onesouffle · 11/12/2009 11:35

Wow! loads of responses thanks!

Will definitely do some pics in frames of my boys.

What is this grandparents book? Do you make it and get them to fill it in?

She likes suduko

Monkeysmama you're a much better daughter than me!

Can I now be cheeky and ask what you're getting your Dads?! Mine is 70 perhaps I should start a new thread!

Right I'm off to town AGH!
