I bought my MIL a lovely handbag from M&S and my FIL a set of pyjamas and a chunky knit sweater with zip at chest.

MadameDuBain · 09/12/2009 12:44

Not been shopping yet but we are thinking nice household diary/cookbooks, smellies for MIL and a novel for FIL.

In the past my pressies for this generation have included cheese knife/board set and a whole stilton, that went down well; nice champagne; or household stuff eg a quilt or throw.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/12/2009 12:44

Kevin McClouds Grand Tour of Europe.

LaDiDaDi · 09/12/2009 12:47

Jo Malone set for MIL.

Pillow that you can plug an ipod into to listen without headphones, book and wine for FIL.

Need to think of a birthday present for FIL for Xmas Eve!

Big pile of books, and tickets for Chelsea Flower Show for MIL

CremeDeMenthe · 09/12/2009 13:50

doggiesayswoof · 09/12/2009 13:54

MIL is probably getting Terry Wogan's book.

Her DH is getting some nice old postcards of the area he was born in (found on Ebay) - we got them framed.

IsItMeOr · 09/12/2009 13:56

Grandparents' journals for them to fill in and give back to DS (like this as they are long divorced but this is nicer if they're still a couple)
Framed photo of DS
Cardigan for MIL (as requested)

IsItMeOr · 09/12/2009 13:59

My dad likes these
My mum likes Christmas jigsaws (WHSmiths always have several nice ones new each year)

merrycompo · 09/12/2009 14:01

I have got my ILs exactly the same as they are getting my dcs i.e. NOTHING

YouKnowStuffingIsForLunch · 09/12/2009 16:42

A magnetic message board with 3 photo frames which I have filled with pics of the DCs for MIL, wrapped in paper made by ds2.

A wooden puzzle thingy for FIL (he hates receiving presents - loves giving them - and so is impossible to shop for )

WeThreeNinks · 09/12/2009 17:18

saladfingers · 09/12/2009 17:34

What about National trust Membership, annually costs around £70 for a retired couple? www.nationaltrust.org.uk

Mincepiedermama · 09/12/2009 17:34

Thanks IsItMeOr. Sorted. I will get my ILs the grandparents memories book. I bought it for my dad last year and he thought it was great.

WaitingForVino · 09/12/2009 17:35

FIL has passed away but he always liked Schnapps (being Austrian)

MIL not nearly as much fun. Took her shopping to M&S last year and said, pick a few things you like. Worked rather well as she is hard to please!

This year she's getting a new bling collar for her doggie. And a photo calendar from the kids (this is an annual thing). Plus marzipan fruits. And maybe a jigsaw puzzle.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 09/12/2009 20:09
