Why next weekend instead of now?

Next weekend gives a relatively short time to enjoy the decorations before it is time to take them down.....

frumpygrumpy · 05/12/2009 16:10

because I am waiting on the outside decoration arriving, its a big light up tree thing that sticks in the ground. I don't want to put up the window stuff until we can do it all at the same time. Tree should have arrived yesterday but didn't.

Nobody will talk to me.

it's too early!

weekend of 19th after schools finish is plenty of time - any more and you'll have to dust them.

pooka · 05/12/2009 16:12

We're doing our decorations on the last day of term (so the 18th).

Early = boring by the time Christmas comes round, IMO.

frumpygrumpy · 05/12/2009 16:12

not quite sure whether to laugh or cry........

glad you agree, it IS too early. We're quite busy next weekend but.........its plenty early.

it's still very early.
we always put ours up the weekend before christmas (lucky this year because it's nearly a whole week: i remember having to wait until 23rd once or twice!)

they can wait another week.

bigchris · 05/12/2009 16:15

lol
yesterday a mum at school said she was putting up her decorations tomorrow as 'that is when the twelve days of xmas starts'

Earlybird · 05/12/2009 16:15

My inside house decorations are up, with exception of tree which we'll do today.

Outside house lights are up, and greenery going up today on railings, front door, garden gate.

Christmas carols on on stereo currently.

May even light the holiday scented candle later....

frumpygrumpy · 05/12/2009 16:16

My DP just gave me the "we always do what you decide" line. Yup. That's the way.

Mine are up!! Never boring before Xmas!

DecorHate · 05/12/2009 16:16

We're waiting till the weekend that school breaks up too - though I have put up some window stickers and a door wreath already!

DecorHate · 05/12/2009 16:17

Lol at Earlybird living up to her name!

frumpygrumpy · 05/12/2009 16:17

In my defence, I've just come out of 2 weeks 'Kids R All Ill' hibernation. I'm worn out and decidedly un-Christmassy. I need to build up.

DH and kids have decided next weekend is when they get the tree and do the decorations. They are going to drop me and my mates off in Manchester so I can party for the day and when I get home Saturday night the plae is going to look like Santa's Grotto no doubt!!!

PandaEis · 05/12/2009 16:54

we are doing ours tomorrow evening the only reason for that though is DH is working away as of next week and he wants to help DD make a mess put the tree up before he goes
i am a christmas fiend though so i dont mind

TheChewyToffeeMum · 05/12/2009 17:03

BigChris - My husband came out with that "12 days before christmas" thing once too. I don't know where he got it from as his mum is quite religious so she wouldn't have told him wrongly as a child.
I am trying to fend of the moaning from him until as late as possible as it will be me preventing toddling DS from trashing the tree every day while he is safely at work.

AngryPixie · 05/12/2009 17:07

Next weekend for us too, and all down on New Years day.

We put ours up on Wednesday, but we are going away for Christmas until the New Year so I wanted to enjoy them. It's also DD first christmas, I know she doesn't understand...

clam · 05/12/2009 17:30

Same argument going on here. Kids furious. Luckily, friends across the road are doing theirs this afternoon, so they've wangled an invite over there to help. Am hoping that'll take the pressure off me.
DH grumping upstairs, feigning illness, and being 'bah humbug' about the whole thing. Says fine, we can have outside lights, but only if he's not expected to put them up!

Happy Christmas, clams!

nickschick · 05/12/2009 17:36

I love christmas but our decs go up the second weekend in December.

monkeyfacegrace · 05/12/2009 17:37
