Hello, as the title says really.

Dh made one for me a few years back. It was mainly my favourite songs or bands etc.

Id really like to do him a romantic one for xmas mixing a bit of cheesy music with some classics and some current stuff. Problem is... i cant think of many! I'll need around 10 songs. He's in the forces and is currently deployed so he's been away from home for 4 months. Id like to do something that he can put on when he's away and will make him smile, a bit tongue in cheek, as well as know how much i love him.

So far im thinking of some Nora Jones and some sinatra for the obvious stuff. I love like Michael Buble so was thinking of using Everything. I was also thinking sex bomb by tom jones and the baywatch theme

I made a mix tape for my DH back in the dim and distant past when we were both young lovers and not knackered parents. I'm searching my brain to remember what was on it but having no luck. DH is at work or I'd ask him. That'd scare him as he'd definitly not remember, he prob doesn't even remember the tape!! Now what randon choices can I suggest to embarrass myself. I am not v.cool. How about Coldplay, 'Fix You'? It has that nice line, ' Lights will guide you home...' which would be appropriate if your DH is away. The Kings of Leon 'Sex on Fire' might sit ok next to Mr Jones 'Sex Bomb'. Or 'Use somebody' from the same albumn is a bit softer. I also like 'Here comes the sun' is it Nina Simone? That would fit with Nora Jones maybe. I hope your DH is doing ok and you too with him away.

Thanks curlytoes.

Coldplay - had forgot about them. I love 'yellow' will definitely include that one.

Love KOL too, especially that song.

There's a few oasis songs that he likes that are good. He likes snowpatrol too.

The main problem I'm foreseeing now is I don't know how to work the music thing on laptop - the thing that you download misic through so he'll have to help with that bit!

We're doing good too, he's home in 8 days

Elbow are great for romantic songs. Starlings, in particular, is just gorgeous.

DaftApeth · 17/11/2009 08:20

What about this for a laugh?

Crowded House "Better be home soon"

Hi Sandychick,

Lovely idea and I hope your man is back with you asap.
I'd second Elbow, I like "Audience with the Pope", how about Massive Attack, "Safe from harm" which has some very suitable lyrics and you can't really go wrong with Everything But The Girl - "Missing" is great but there's also a really moving song called "We walk the same line".

Good Luck!

The Man Who Can't Be Moved by The Script - not exactly the same situation as you but still a lovely song about someone who has parted from his love and decided to camp out at the place where they first met in case she comes back. The chorus says:

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
I'm thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And see me waiting for you on the corner of the street
So I'm not moving. I'm not moving.

Always makes me a bit teary.

thereistheball · 17/11/2009 15:34

Ahem - will try that again.
