Baby annabel or Baby born. Which of the feckers is less foul?

Dd really wants a doll with a dummy.

She adores dolls, and really will play with the horrid plastic thing for ages.

Is it worth investing (I use the word loosely) in Annabel for maximum play longevity? Anything else I should know about these loathsome bits of plastic?

Baby Born is quite ugly. Our BA is still going strong after about 7 years - onto 2nd child now

Depends how old she is, my DD (not quite 2 at the time) got BA last Xmas, and it is SOOOOOO heavy she can barely lift it! It's also very creepy as when in 'on' mode its head follows you round the room (seriously!!)

However, saying that she does love it (just schleps it around in a buggy!) I would say that alot of the plastic tat accessories are useless though, we had to take a rocker thing back as it fell apart every time you but the doll in it

She's 3 1/2, gnatbite - but a very diddy 3 1/2.

We have a horrific thing called "Love me better Laura" - if you put a thermometer in its mouth it lights up like a demon, then you have to give it some "medicine" to shut it up.

I think BA are better as are soft bodied. The BB are hard plastic things that can't be cuddled imo...

Well, I imagine you may already have decided upon "love me better Laura" but if not, there is a My First Baby Annabell which doesn't have the electrical bits and is therefore hopefully much lighter (and less creepy!)

Baby annabel,
my dd1 has got both and even though she is now 8 I still make up excuses not to have to make up the food to feed baby born,
it just sounds more hassle than its worth,

I would say Baby Annabel. Because she is soft and her dummy stays in better. Baby Born you kind of have to shove it in. Also, baby Anabel makes noises which I am sure your DD will get a real kick out of. The only down side is you cannot put her in the bath. In that case, if you have a child with a water fetish then baby born is better.

Just go for any one providing it doesn't make a noise.

I speak from experience. DD had one that malfunctioned and it wouldn't shut up when it was supposed to. Even DD got fed up of it in the end.

Annabel is much nicer than Baby Born.

Baby Born is hard bodied and can't be cuddled.
Annabel is soft bodied and cuddly and is really quite pretty as far as dolls go.

My dd's have one of each, in fact my dd2 has two Annabels - Annabel is still played with, both by dd2 (6yo) and dd3 (2yo)

Well, that is a pretty resounding vote for BA so far, I feel. Thank you all.

Although I note none of you have really attempted to convince me I won't hate the thing. I guess this is one of those dreadful parenting decisions where you have to be child-led

Dh is currently singing devil woman having seen the thing on the argos website

I saw My First Plastic Monstrosity tooAnnabell too, gnatbite - damn the bastards for their lack of dummies - otherwise, a definate go-er.

Am off down the pub to have a few stiff drinks before steeling myself to buy one.

I think it's the moulded plastic hair which makes Born so fecking ugly. I mean, if your real baby looked like that you'd run out of the labour room screaming wouldn't you?

I noticed last Christmas that there are nice ones with proper hair (well, not proper, but YKWIM) in the Co-op (if you have such a thing) Tiny Tears etc.

Does Annabel have hair?

baby born doesnt have creepy mechanical thing going on, he/she can go in the bath. dd has annabelle and baby born, plays with both all the time.

We got this evil fecking thing from Tchibo before they fled the UK. If you put it's dummy in, it makes a sucky noise and then burps when it's removed. Slap it's back repeatedly and it laughs and shake it and it cries. What lesson do you think DD has learned?

Yes that's correct: banging dolly's head on the floor to make her scream is fun and even more fun is punching her repeatedly in the back to make her laugh.

My how we laughed when we bought her this very lifelike doll (and I was seven months pregnant with DS at the time).
