Playmobil- which sets to buy?

Hi, my dd1 loves playmobil and wants to add to her collection for x-mas, so far she has got (over the past 3 years):

The circus + all the extras
The Park (slide, roundabout etc..)
A princess set (which doesn't get played with)
A rubish truck
Camper van
Ice cream parlor/shop
Rabbits
Police car

Last christmas she got the circus and it has been played with almost every day.

I'm not sure which set to get her this year, she likes the look of the modern house (but its a bit pricey), also the farm, the Pyramid and the church.

Which set does your child/children play with the most?

I don't really want to buy the house as the furniture is not included and it would end up costing me 150.00+ .

noah's ark.

lucykate · 09/10/2009 16:55

what about the take along house?, i am tempted by the modern house as a joint present for dd & ds

Marne · 09/10/2009 17:04

We had the take along house (mummy sold it), it kept coming apart at the hinges and dd1 didn't really show much interest in it (until now, she's asking where it is ).

I like the idea of the Ark.

Just noticed that boots are doing playmobil 3 for 2.

I like the look of the modern house but i think if she really wants it i will have to buy it 2nd hand with the furniture.

She already has my favourites, the camper van and the rubbish truck.

Every collection should have BBQ man, to provide on-site catering.

DD has the old-fashioned mansion instead of a dolls house (DH & I gave her the house, and asked all the rellies to give her a room set each to share the cost).

The boats are good, especially if they come with a motor, and can be played with in the bath/paddling pool.

Just seen http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/en_GB/Product-Show?pid=7925&cgid=Ritter this for re-enactments of the child-catcher scene in ChittyChittyBangBang

FrightsMonth · 09/10/2009 17:06

sorry

midnightexpress · 09/10/2009 17:09

Our faves are the rubbish truck and the camper van too. Apart from that, we only have the rescue helicopter, which I wouldn't recommend. The DSs hardly play with it (and they're both obsessed with vehicles of all descriptions) and it has an annoying winch thing which they just unravel and it gets wrapped around everything.

Marne · 09/10/2009 17:14

Oh, we have the BBQ man (he's a must), i prefer the old mansion to the modern home .

I wish i could buy it as a joint present but dd2 would destroy playmobil, Dd1 is also eying up the sylvanian family tree house.

actually, if they like the camper van and the rubbish truck, can i recommend the ambulance. that's been a huge hit in our house with ds

MrsJohnDeere · 09/10/2009 19:13

most popular here are:

aeroplane
helicopter
ambulance
rubbish truck
knight' stuff (in phases - out of favour at the moment)

the only thing that hasn't really been played with is the police boat

BBQ man popular here too. Also scary gardening man with shears.

I bought the castle and a pirate ship today, my idea being the pirates attack the castle! They joint present between the 3 dcs.

Would have bought a lot more if it wasn't so expensive!

twolittledarlings · 10/10/2009 23:00

I got the Noah's Ark for my girls 2 years ago and they really love to play with it. It has so many bits to it, they are forever taking the animals out and then tidying them back in.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 11/10/2009 16:04

Another vote for Noah's Ark.

Ds had it for his 2nd birthday. It still gets played with now (by him and dd, 4) and he has just turned 8!

He has had a couple of farms but once they all went into little pieces, they've not really been played with as too fiddly to put back together.

Airplane good too but mostly played with without wings and wheels as these fall off so easily.

Have you seen the Playmobil advent calenders? They are great.

We have the plane and airport, supermarket and modern house....only the supermarket doesn't get played with every day.....the house, (I bought it second hand from ebay for about £65 2 years ago) has been worth it's weight in gold, never has something been so loved in our house! (because it was on ebay I did get all the rooms included- it honestly looked brand new)

I think this year we're going for the hospital....

The farm is £99 on Tesco direct instead of £199 at the moment, and I think it's about half price on the Entertainer as well.

potteringpenguin · 11/10/2009 16:20

Noah's Ark is £29.99 on the Toys R Us website at the moment. Just got it for me ds! And I didn't have to go to my least favourite shop of all time.

ramonaquimby · 13/10/2009 13:53

the carry along house is great - check out tesco.com, got it half price there about this time last year.

whatsthetimemrwolf · 16/10/2009 04:14

DD has the Grande Maison which has been popular. The aeroplane never seemed to fit together properly(put together by drunk relative on Xmas day!)and is big to store. The camper van has been the most popular of these.

I'm considering the hospital this year. Size wise, does anyone know how this compares to the grande maison? Do you have to buy all the extras like the house?

mysteryfairy · 16/10/2009 09:22

I'm guessing your DD is 6+ if she has been getting playmobil for 3 years. My DD got the pony farm (rather than the general farm) and various accessories last xmas and she has loved that all year. My DD is 7 now and I think it's quite common for them to go through a "horsey" phase at this age - at least I'm hoping she outgrows it as I've no ambitions to own a real horse! We have a stream of playdates wanting to come and play with the pony farm so definitely worth considering. Not one of the classics as I think it's only been out a year or two but athe base farm is only about £50 so not so pricey.

Here it is on amazon

We have a landrover, a dressage, horse washing station etc as well.

Divatheshopaholic · 16/10/2009 15:42

Im so excited reading here, never bought playmobil before. DD is 5 at easter, so we decided to buy dolls house.

facebookaddict · 16/10/2009 15:55

I've bought lots and lots of vintage (1974) playmobil from ebay in advance of my near 3yr old getting into it. We hide it when his playdates come round though as hundreds of fiddly bits and when he's with his buddies they just throw boxes of toys around rather than playing 'properly'....hmmmm, perhaps playmobil is MY toy, not his....

He is in love with the Caravan ("Kangavan") and car with bike rack, but also in favour:

Holiday house
Beach rescue set
Forest Lodge with animals
(we also have 4 vehicles of different sizes and these have the most playtime so far)
and Supermarket that he hasn't seen yet (Xmas)

I hope that when DD is old enough she and DS may play together with this stuff?...

haggisaggis · 16/10/2009 16:02

We have the hospital and i have to say it doesn't get played with much (and took AGES to build!)
It is quite large - but you don't need to buy anything else for it. It is not easy to move around - the roof came off when we tried to carry it upstairs and it was a minor rebuild putting it back together.
My 2 (7 and 9.5) play most with the ambulance, camper van, cargo ship, crane and rescue boat. dd piles all teh people on teh cargo boat and takes them for a cruise!

ramonaquimby · 16/10/2009 16:57

oh no -= bought the hospital in the damaged box sale last spring......and ambulance.....oh dear ah well. good resale value in future.

OrmIrian · 16/10/2009 16:58

Ark is good. There's a lovely looking stable. And the woodland ranger set is good too.

Bucharest · 16/10/2009 17:17

The pony thingy (and a couple of other things) are on the additions/very websites which are offering £30 off a £60 spend with code ZG003 at the moment (kindly posted in Codes by someone)

paddingtonbear1 · 16/10/2009 18:30

dd's fave is the camper van. She doesn't play with her hospital much (got it on for sale board if anyone wants it)!

LostGirl · 16/10/2009 21:27

Have you seen this thread, contains details of rumoured playmobil damaged box sale, possible starting next week.

We bought the hospital in the last sale and it has been well used, though not as a hospital, more a general purpose building for a house/school/police station etc. I think dd at 6 is maybe too young to really appreciate what a lot of the things in it are for so just adapts it to whatever stories she wants to create. Certainly do not regret buying it.

I agree though that the camper van is probably the most used, and is a great starter piece as it comes with everything they need and can all be packed away inside it.
