DH says that if we take them down too early, it's unlucky. But I thought if you took them down too late, it's unlucky.
Is there an optimum luck date?

mine come down on new years day

scienceteacher · 04/01/2009 09:43

I don't think luck comes into it. Tradition says at the end of Christmas - Epiphany, 6th January.

Lemontart · 04/01/2009 09:43

12th night was the traditional date. Unlucky after this date is the usual saying, but ok before.

Mine are down YAY what a relief to clean up after an awful Christmas. I know that sounds a bit bah humbug but with entire family being ill with various viruses, one trip to hospital and all of us been to the doc at least once... glad it is all over and cannot wait until DH and DD2 are better

mustrunmore · 04/01/2009 09:43

Ours are down, cos I was so sick of ds2 taking everything off the tree, and all the cards falling down when the blutack got too warm!

bellavita · 04/01/2009 10:06

Ours came down Friday.

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2009 10:08

Ours are down the day after New Year's Day otherwise my teeth start getting itchy.

PuppyMonkey · 04/01/2009 10:09

And I'm starting to worry about all the festive emoticons still on the right there too. When do they come down?

Ambi · 04/01/2009 10:11

I do mine on New years day, it feels too strange having them around at the start of the new year.

2sugarsandapuppy · 04/01/2009 10:12

Tuesday, I think, but am so sick of them, and sooooo tempted to do it today.

Mogadishu · 04/01/2009 10:13

Hmmm up 12 days before christmas
down 12 days after

or

up on 2nd Decemeber
down on 2nd January

or

Feel free to add. Mine are up.

mrsruffallo · 04/01/2009 10:22

yes, the 6th is when everything should be taken down

ABloke · 04/01/2009 10:24

oh rubbish the 6th????????

I have been lied to for years.

Naughty parents.

piratecat · 04/01/2009 10:25

i just had a look as was wondering myself.

The eve of the Epiphany, is the 12th Night, which is the 5th. They should be down by tomorrow night apparently.

piscesmoon · 04/01/2009 10:25

It should be the 6th-mine are coming down now ready for back to work and school.

tribpot · 04/01/2009 10:27

Oh good. Only approx 330 days til ds stops asking me if we can take the Christmas tree down from the loft

ABloke · 04/01/2009 10:28

Down by tomorrow

I wonder if you have to take the tree down.

Hulababy · 04/01/2009 10:28

I think you are supposed to take them down before the 6th (or evening of 5th).

Mine are coming down today.

NomDePlume · 04/01/2009 10:30

Mine came down yesterday.

piratecat · 04/01/2009 10:33

it's all gone to quick. i don't want to take mine down.

NomDePlume · 04/01/2009 10:35

I didn't want to take mine down either. Mainly because they take ages to put away - 90% of the baubles are glass and have to wrapped individually, not to mention all the other bits and bobs that go on display on the fireplace etc. Very dull job

MrsSeanBean · 04/01/2009 10:40

Piratecat is correct; they come down tomorrow night. I hate it when decorations go up 15 November 1 December and are taken down about 27 Dec.

lucky4some · 04/01/2009 10:49

hi,xmas eve is when xmas starts so take that as the first night so the twelth night would be 4th january,my b/day is the 5th jan(tmrw)lol and the tree n decs have never been up on my birthday

NomDePlume · 04/01/2009 10:51

mine go up first sunday in Dec. It's what my Mum did and so I've continued it. It takes so flipping long to get everything out and looking 'right' that it just wouldn't be worthwhile putting it up for less than a fortnight.

piscesmoon · 04/01/2009 10:55

I have just taken down my tree and it has hardly dropped any needles-a good reason not to start too early-mine was still growing the weekend before Christmas.

Hulababy · 04/01/2009 12:25

DD and me have just taken everything down and out. Decorations back in the loft. Tree chopped up and in garage/bin for now.
