Dear Janet, John and family

I only have 2 children surely its not that much effort to add their names!!!

TipsyFairydifferentID · 18/12/2008 12:56

maybe they have forgotten the children's names especially if they have 25 cards to write and all of them have 2 children. 50 extra names to remember is quite a lot, especially if you don't know those people as well.

andyrobo237 · 18/12/2008 12:57

I would only do that if I was unsure of the names or spellings of them, not out of laziness.

SixSpotBurnet · 18/12/2008 12:57

I rather like it.

And I sign a lot of mine "From SixSpot, MrSixSpot and boys". Well, I don't literally write that, but yswim.

mumblechum · 18/12/2008 12:58

I ended up doing that last night after card number 35 or whatever.

Does anyone actually read Xmas cards anyway??

VivaLaPotPourri · 18/12/2008 12:59

I do that, I don't always know their names.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/12/2008 12:59

I do it on the envelopes and then write everyones names inside. How do you feel about that??

Sonnet · 18/12/2008 12:59

My 2nd daughters name is rather difficult to spell - so we oftern get addressed like that!
Does make it less personal somehow

PuppyMonkeyNuts · 18/12/2008 12:59

We had the same thread earlier in the week. isn't it supposed to be the thought that counts? I dunno, I stopped sending cards at all three years ago cos it's all a load of bollox really isn't it?

Cies · 18/12/2008 12:59

I write that if I can't remember the spelling or the names.

I have more of an issue with "To you all".

NewHollyOtherIvy · 18/12/2008 12:59

I did it this year to one of my work colleagues simply because I, for the life of me, couldn't remember the name of one of her sons

I do usually include the names.

Mumblechum... I always read mind

NewHollyOtherIvy · 18/12/2008 13:00

or even read mine! FFG - my typing today is shi*te.

NewHollyOtherIvy · 18/12/2008 13:00

FFG... what's that?!?!?

SixSpotBurnet · 18/12/2008 13:02

I used to have some friends who had a daughter called Chloe and a cat called Zoe - or was it the other way round...?

Could never ever remember!

islandofsodor · 18/12/2008 13:02

I always write and family. I have lots of sets of friends and cousins with between 1 - 4 children each. I can not always remember names.

2pt4WiseMen · 18/12/2008 13:02

Perfectly acceptable to write it on the envelope if names are inside

I also have no issue with people who could be not quite sure of childrens names doing it.
Its quite close friends that do it that annoys me. They definitely know the childrens names (and they are normal, easy to spell names too)

My DWs Aunt & Uncle don't bother even with the to bit - they just sign it from themselves - lazy gits. We sat there the other night and have 6 names to sign from - luckily names aren't too long.

BTW - anyone recieved a Mumsnet Xmas card from anyone else????

harpsiheraldangelssing · 18/12/2008 13:03

oh lord I often do this
I also started to write "with love from the

PestoHoHoHoMonster · 18/12/2008 13:41

I do this when I can't remember the DH's name or the children's names.

Better than not sending one at all methinks.

moondog · 18/12/2008 13:42

I get pissed off with ones addressed to 'Davies family'. I never have and never shall share dh's last name.
I don't write any meself though.

Iklboo · 18/12/2008 13:44

We get one from FIL addressed to "Mr & Mrs (DH initial) Iklboo". It really irritates me for some bizarre reason

CliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 18/12/2008 13:45

I hate being called Mr and Mrs

HuwEdwards · 18/12/2008 13:47

oh I get cards addressed to Mr and Mrs, we're not married, have been together 20-odd years etc. His associates call me Mrs and mine address everything !

piscesmoon · 18/12/2008 13:52

I thought it was convention to write Mr and Mrs with DH initial? I put Mr and Mrs J Smith, do you mean I should put Mr J & Mrs A Smith? I often write my friends and then family, this is because a lot of them have older DCs and I don't know whether they are home for Christmas or not. I don't see any of it it as being important.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 18/12/2008 13:52

I must be lazy then as I right xxx, xxxand family but also write from xxx, xxxx and family. I have about 50 cards to write so writing your 2 dc and my 3 is 5 extra names a card. I am completely unorganised and not wrote out some of the cards I should be posting so there we go
