TODAY was last day for standard parcels

No f*cker told me did they??? It is now going to cost a small fortune to get my sister's stuff sent (not finished making, let alone wrapping). I may leave one of her presents for her birthday and save time.

I just want to curl up and hide from it all, but again that won't help.

Can't even do loads tonight as promised a mate I would do her circuit class.

AND I left Flameboy sleeping on the sofa and curled up in bed with a book (obv before realising the posting thing) - he woke and rather than yelling "MUUUUUUUUUUUM" like normal - he stayed quiet, got a calendar and ate the entire bloody thing watching some film on Channel5.

Argh.

Wine would help here people... or sympathy, or something

Don't worry - there there

santasinmywaistband · 15/12/2008 16:21

Large glass of wine and extra chocs for flameboy on the way, although I will have to send them virtually as parcel post has now finished

FannyWig · 15/12/2008 16:21

have a look here. IT might be cheaper than you think.

TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 16:28

You can send quite large things as a 'packet' which does first and second class, if that helps.

Packet
Length: over 353mm
Width: over 250mm
Thickness: over 25mm

items over 610mm x 460mm x 460mm should be sent by Standard Parcel

Weight range First Class at new price
0-100g 114p
101-250g 145p
251-500g 194p
501-750g 251p
751-1000g 308p
1001-1250g 430p
1251-1500g 500p
1501-1750g 570p
1751-2000g 640p
2001-4000g 822p
Each additional 2kg or part thereof 280p

from here

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 15/12/2008 16:29

Blimey!!!!! How can today be the last day?!!!!! I have things to send tomorrow.
Thanks for the info TA - thats very useful.

TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 16:31

You do have to be very clear when you speak to the old lady (stereotyping, me?) in the Post Office: "I want to send this First Class as a packet. Not parcel post. Thank you."

saltiresaysSANTA · 15/12/2008 16:34

tinsellian - that only works if you actually manage to get served in the PO. Ours has 12 counters. 2 were open. There were 46 people, including me in the queue!
I ahd to give up after 25 minutes as I would have missed my bus.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 15/12/2008 16:37

I will have two hours tomorrow in which to walk the 30 minutes each way to town, go to post office, go to vets, pet food shop and camera shop.

Its going to be challenging isn't it.

TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 16:43

How about printing post labels online?

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 15/12/2008 16:59

oh WOW!!!!!!!! You are officially my hero. Thats amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously. You have saved me an awful lot of queueing. I am eternally grateful.

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 17:07

I print everything online and take it to the sorting office - soooooo much easier. Time to do my santa stuff NOW, but still not for my sister

I can't do courier as my sister will be arsey if she misses it and then has to locate parcel place to collect.

Flameboy needs no more chocolate , although to be fair, he did have 2 calendars from us (result of crossed wires) and the third was from my dad, so he ain't gonna be dipping out

Right, off to ignore my children and sort parcel!

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 17:15

After all that... 2nd class is cheaper

Still doesn't help with DSis, but still....

I don't have to go tonight either now, can print and post tomorrow when it is quieter

Last day for posting parcels????

I have just finished packing up my secret santa! Will it get there on time?

It's 6kg and a rather large box .

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 18:26

For 6kg you are probably best off with a courier anyway tbh - do a search for cheap uk courier on ebay

OP posts:
NotTooTiredForChristmas · 15/12/2008 18:27

Off to search - thank you oh wise one .

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 18:30

Oh and just found a little stack of Flameboy's chocs - he must've got sick of them and put them aside for later

OP posts:
TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 18:50

Hasn't quite got the hang of the little numbered windows yet then?

Glad I could help with the postage stuff.

TinselianAstra · 15/12/2008 18:50

By the way, what's so scary about poinsettias? IS it becaue they look like flowers but aren't really?

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 18:52

Be a flower or a leaf, don't be a big red leaf pretending to be a petal - it ain't right.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 15/12/2008 19:08

'Be a flower or a leaf, don't be a big red leaf pretending to be a petal - it ain't right. ' - LOL!!!!

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 15/12/2008 19:41

That worked brilliantly (printing postage label) Packet is now in post box (after a bit of cramming). hooray!

PoinsettiasScareMe · 15/12/2008 20:43

yay!

OP posts:
TinselianAstra · 16/12/2008 12:58

Well done!

I sent DP off with my cards today, so hopefully he'll see a big red box at the side of the road and remember what it's for.

Was a bit annoyed that my stamps all had scary-looking pantomime dames on them, so people will know that I'm using Christmas stamps for months afterwards.
