I've left it too late to buy ds much wanted present. Do I disappoint him or pay 2X price on ebay?

title says it all. He wants the lego police centre, retailing at £47 and sold out everywhere. There are a few on ebay for £80-£90, dh will be mad if I pay double but can I really disappoint my ds? It is the only thing he wants and he has talked about it for weeks.

we had this a few years back (luckily he had 2 things he wanted and we got one)

we gave him the money (OK a pretend voucher he loses everything!) and said we wopuld take him out to buy it so he could have the fun of carrying it home (well santa said that).

Worked a treat

Where do you live? I have a suggestion of where to try if you are in the south east.

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:22

on the lego site it says backorders now accepted for 10 Jan delivery. I ordered it from them a few days ago hoping they had it in stock (it said available on website, I'm sure but they have emailed me to let me know order status is backorder).

Do I make sense? Probably not!!

I'd disappoint him rather than pay double.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 08/12/2008 21:22

Have you checked your local

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:23

Peachy, I like your idea but it will be really hard on ds to watch his sisters opening their big presents when he just has a few little ones.

Gaspod, I'm in Dorset, where did you have in mind? I have family and friends in South East.

or in stock at some of these stores

GaspodisWearingASantaHatHoHoHo · 08/12/2008 21:26

Place called Toytime in Hildenborough. Totally random shop on a farm but have lots of stock, lego and playmobile. Might be worth a try.

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:26

Have tried every argos for miles.

twentypence, I really cant stomach paying double to some opportunist on ebay. But it is all he wants, nothing else will do. He looks at it in the argos catalogue every single day.

Ds has been going on and on about a crappy HotWheels set. Last year he went on and on about getting James and Percy trains.

Neither of these things happened. He will get hotwheels but a nice sensible one that folds down rather than having a million bits of plastic around his bedroom and the crucial one goes missing. it was also half price

ChippyMyrrhton · 08/12/2008 21:30

this one instead?

ChippyMyrrhton · 08/12/2008 21:32

oh, it's just gone out of stock, sorry.
have you searched by the model number 7744?

MaryBeWaiting · 08/12/2008 21:32

Have you tried Legoland? Plus if you spend over £75 you get a free annual pass?

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 21:33

bunny, I can check in the Brighton Lego shop for you if you want? am guessing it might be sold out if it isn't on the website either, but worth a look maybe?
I won't be down there for a few days, but can look if you still haven't found one

MaryBeWaiting · 08/12/2008 21:33

Sorry, scrap that, I see from the website the shop shut yesterday

Lazycow · 08/12/2008 21:33

I think in future it is better to manage expectations. I have already told ds that he need to list a few things he would like and thAt Fc can't always bring the thing he wants most so it is better to think of a few things but he should get at least one of the things on his list.

I think this time you should get him to name a few things he'd also like (just in case), buy him one of the cheaper ones and get him a voucher for the lego one. The only problem then though is whether your other children will be unhappy he has got 2 things. If they will be (quite likely) I'd choose between getting the others a very small additional present each as well or paying the extra (whichever is the cheapest option)

how old is he? could you give him a smaller police thing? van/car etc so he has something, and tell him you will get it asap?

ChippyMyrrhton · 08/12/2008 21:36

here?

tillyblue · 08/12/2008 21:37

I would suggest taking him to a fantastic toy shop and subtley helping him find something else to put on his list. Most kids are easily swayed by the things they see in there dont you think?
