I've left it too late to buy ds much wanted present. Do I disappoint him or pay 2X price on ebay?

title says it all. He wants the lego police centre, retailing at £47 and sold out everywhere. There are a few on ebay for £80-£90, dh will be mad if I pay double but can I really disappoint my ds? It is the only thing he wants and he has talked about it for weeks.

Try your local toyshops and garden centres - I got DS a Playmobil firestation for his birthday this year. They have been discontinued for ages but found one at our garden centre.

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:42

Thank you for all your suggestions and responses.

Thisisyesterday, that is really kind of you. Thank you. If you happen to be in the Brighton shop and get a chance to look, I would be extremely grateful. I'llkeep this thread updated so you know if I am still looking.

Lazycow, you're right. I have never hd this problem before, I cant believe how quickly lego sells.

Ds is 8 and still beleives in santa, I dont want to shatter his dreams just yet. Cant believe I am buying into this crap and seriously considering the ebay option. at amazon prices here too!!

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:44

tillyblue, that is a very good idea, I will have to grit my teeth and take him to toysrus.

Sniffyhock, I honestly cant recall seeing toys in any garden centres. My dad might recall though, being tyhe keener gardener.

lol

will def have a look next time I am in Brighton.
there is also a shop in bluewater if you're anywhere near there?

tillyblue · 08/12/2008 21:48

Bunny3 we took ours recently and all their steadfast plans were cast aside and they all became obsessed with new ideas.
Beware the aisle with battery operated 4x4 cars though, even the 11yr old wanted one!

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 08/12/2008 21:49

Or could chance buying from cgi.ebay.co.uk/7744-LEGO-CITY-Massive-POLICE-STATION-Playset-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ380087687055QQcmdZVi ewItemQQptZAUToysHobbiesBuildingToys?hash=item380087687055&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177abroad ??

downbutnotout · 08/12/2008 21:54

chippy you are a lifesaver - have been looking everywhere for the lego city fire station and that link led me to one. You have saved me from the madess of ebay - hurrah!!!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 08/12/2008 21:55

bunny3 - is it the police station? I can try here in Budapest for you - I think it is available. Am travelling back to Dublin next Tuesday night so could take it and post it from Dublin for you.

I am happy to do this and for your to send me a cheque. I am looking for a Man City jersey for DS that a MNer is trying to get for me in the same way. Happy to pay it forward!

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 21:57

tillyblue, I am deffo toying with a trip to toysrus (no pun intended!). Bloody hate remote control cars tho, forever recharging batteries and dd2 gets scared!

Fab, they have the lego in Oz!!! How much do you think it might cost for postage? Bit of a risk with timing too. When dh gets home from work (if he ever does) I shall presnet him with all your wonderful suggestions.

I feel your pain. Two years ago I searchedfor the copshop. Bought the fire station as back-up. Then eventually found copshop in obscure toyshop. This year I closed the xmas lists early and got everything about a month ago.

MincePirate · 08/12/2008 22:00

i'll have a look in my local toyshop for you tommorrow.

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 22:01

Buda, would you really do that? That is so kind. Please, yes. My email is [email protected]. I will keep this thread updated if I get it elsewhere (highly unlikely) or if ds changes his mind (possible). Thank you again. Can I just clarify the model no is 7744. If you email me, I can email you my mob no if it's any use.

One other option you could try......do you have friends / family in Ireland? We were hunting for the Agents Mission6 command centre which is sold out everywhere in the UK, and my sister managed to pick one up today in Argos, and it is now winging its way to me!!

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 22:03

Mincepirate, than you. Please look if you happen to be in a toyshop lego dept!! Thank you.

and they say goodwill is dead! Well not here!!!

Chippy, nxt year I'm getting santa letters written in September!

pregapuss · 08/12/2008 22:09

How about finding one somewhere in the country that sell it and seein if a kind Mumsnetter will post it to you if you cover costs and give them an extra fiver for their troubles? I would do it if you find one near me (postcode area UB9 or HA4)

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 08/12/2008 22:12

bunny - I will look tomorrow.

I know what you mean about goodwill being dead! This is one of my fave bits of MN!

DITDOT · 08/12/2008 22:14

Have tried my local tiny tiny toy shops just in case they had one stashed away gathering dust!!

Try these 2, my friend swears by them for unusual/hard to find lego. Websites are rubbish but they may be able to post if they have it.

Londons of York 01904 424544
Chyldes play 01759 306041

Both near York but you never know!!

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 22:15

pregapus, thank you for that. I have checked all stores near you (I used to live near there, Edgware) but it's sold out.

Buda, I always turn to MN when ~I have a crisis. It has helped me through a miscarriage, SN problems (ds), fertility problems, the lot!! It always comes up trumps.

time for a glass of wine and a mince pie, I feel very Chrismassy now with all the kindness of strangers.

bunny3 · 08/12/2008 22:17

Ditdot, I will try those first thing in the morning. Thank you and thank you for trying your local shops too. There must be one somewhere!!!

ANTagony · 08/12/2008 22:21

try this They might post it to you.

missblythe · 08/12/2008 22:22

Have you asked in John Lewis if they have one in any of their stores? If they do, they can transfer it to your nearest one for free, or send it to you at home for cost of delivery
