My lovely tree is ruined by DD's 'art' :)

Ok, I know Christmas is about families and children should be encouraged to be creative and we should make them feel good by displaying their crap art and so on, but why oh why does it have to be on my treeeeeeeeee?!?! I normally say that I like it displayed on the mantelpiece where everybody can see how brilliant it is but she's not being persuaded this year

last year my son did a lego tree was quite nice

i hate perfect xmas trees, i detest matching decorations, i usually beg my teenagers to make decs with me however this yer i have the pleasure of a 6 year old who i can delight with gliter and glue and multicoloured paper and paper chains and crepe paper - i truly can't wait.

I put the DCs work of arts on the tree always. They love it. I love it.

I like nice matching trees mine is meant to be silver and pink picked by DD1 last year. I 'helped' her choose a gorgeous silver star for the top of the tree with white sparkling lights.

She brought home a toilet roll holder covered in white tissue and silver paper that slightly resembled a deformed angel. It took pride of place on the top of the tree

I also have DH to deal with who seems to love cheap and tacky multi coloured crap hanging everywhere he can fit it at xmas.

my brother still insists on putting up this god awful homemade 'turkey' made out of cotton balls and empty toilet roll tree decoration ( I kid you not) on our parents tree. He is 33

Its not decorated until their stuff is up.
Gives me happy memories, gives them a happy feeling that their efforts are appreciated...y'know, makes us feel all.....CHRISTMAS-Y inside!!!!!!!

What about a mini tree for all her stuff and the other tree for all the matching stuff?

When I fled domestic abuse (sorry to add a dampener but bear with me one of the very few things I rescued because of its utmost importance, was the doily fairy decorations made by my DC.

My mum still has crap art we made for the tree 35 odd years ago and some of it still goes on the tree for old times sake.

I make a living out of selling "classy" (read bunting-esque) Christmas decorations.

Consequently my home, at Christmas, is bedecked with cheap tinsel and DCs home-made stuff. Not a hand-made glass bauble in sight.

I love the crap - I did have to throw out 2 of the "santa stop here" door hanging things when DD made 3 in a week at preschool . My mum still puts our stuff up, including crackers we made at Brownies that were carefully unrolled to get the goodies, and then redone to be displayed for all eternity

I hate sterile 'perfect' trees-there is nothing nicer than some DCs art work IMO.

I remember one year when ds was little that my xmas tree had a load of wwc wrestling figures dangling off it..

I always used to let my dcs decorate the tree when they were little (supervised!). I used to love it that the lower branches were groaning under the weight of all the decs while the top half was bare cause they couldn't reach. All part of Christmas for me and now mine are older and I could have a perfectly coordinated tree should I wish I really miss it and it's not the same anymore.

Get a tree just for the kids. I'm going to do the same when Ds is older. Bog roll with a bit of tissue stuck on with string isn't appealing is it.

I love our tree, lots of cotton wool snowmen with an eye missing etc, it's nt up yet, but can't wait.

Started making Christmas cards with the DS's yesterday and they tired of it before me, I love all that stuff, though not the glitter.

My Mom turned "tasteful" with the tree when we were about 14yrs old, I was gutted and I so wish we had kept our old decs for me to use now.

In a few years time when your children don't even come home for Christmas because they are backpacking in Vietnam you'll be sobbing over your DC's handmade decorations and lovingly picking up bits of dropped glitter with the pad of your finger.

Christmas is not about style, it's about love, families, memories, Drambuie (oops and Jesus).

yes but mismatched homemade kids stuff is imo stylish. my tree will not have a bare branch and if it does we will make some more stuff. Though I do have an irrational dislike of tinsel. Matching colour themed trees are the height of naff. I am, of course , a style guru

Our xmas tree went up yesterday and everything has to matching colours this year is gold & silver - with no tinsel allowed! Thats gone up the stairs upto DDs room.

And we have DD's tree ornaments on there ( we pick one every year)

Come on it's really not nice for children to grow up feeling the decorations they made are not good enough for the family tree.

DD Will be making chocs to put on tree etc- but she makes other decs we put around the house!
