I'm of the 'first weekend in December' school of thought, but DH reckons advent is 28 days not 25 . Personally I don't give a crap because neither of us are christians but we do have a mahoosive ugly fabric advent wall hanging with pockets big enough for a big bar of chocolate per day so I wouldn't want to wait too long and miss some scoffing opps.

We do ours on first of month, but that's just habit coz that's when I had to do it at work.
It's when your advent calender starts so we'll stick to that I think

EnchantedwithEdwardCullen · 24/11/2008 21:10

This Saturday

I know its the 29th, but we are out Sunday and like to have them up for the 1st!

OneBoyOneGirl · 24/11/2008 21:11

Normally 1st of December -

DorrisMcWhirter · 24/11/2008 21:11

I try to leave it till the 12th now a days (used to be much earlier). Mainly because we have a small house and the tree takes up half the lounge!!

peachygirl · 24/11/2008 21:15

After my birthday - on the 5th. This was a family rule when I was little. Although putting the tree up on my birthday was a special treat.

At work I have to start preparing for christmas a bit earlier otherwise we wouldn't get everything done but at home thats the rule.

happynappies · 24/11/2008 21:20

Always around December 15th - that's my Dad's birthday, and thats when we go to buy the tree, family tradition!

hannahlouhoo · 24/11/2008 21:21

Not doing it!!! ds is 8 months and just started crawling i cant face the trips to a&e!!! going to put tinsel and cards up but not messing about with a tree. mabye next year!

When i was little my mum used to dress the yuca tree up with tinsel( i never knew the differance!) I only knew about this when i looked at some old pictures and asked why was the plant got tinsel on!!!

Twiga · 24/11/2008 21:23

We would usually wait until after the 12th (dh's birthday) but are going to do it asap after the weekend as baby no3 being delivered on 18th and want Christmas stuff all in place before the chaos of new baby starts.

Twiga · 24/11/2008 21:26

hannah - don't miss out on having a tree, good tip from off of here which we're going to use as ds (17months) is into anyhting is to put tree inside playpen if you have one. If not could you buy a little one and put it up out of reach?

psychomum5 · 24/11/2008 21:29

first weekend in december in our house.

DD3's birthday is 7th december and she always like the tree up before her birthday.......means it is nearly here then in her eyes.

SoMuchToBits · 24/11/2008 21:31

About a week before Christmas.

The way things go in our house is:-

My birthday cards up (from today, which is my birthday for a week or so), then ds's birthday cards up (5th December onwards) for a week or so, then Christmas cards/decorations up.

heymammy · 24/11/2008 21:31

Two Saturdays before Christmas Day, making it ehm......the 13th this year!

Strange little rule we have, not sure how or when it started but it seems to work in a not too early not too late kinda way.

twinklytoes · 24/11/2008 22:42

when school breaks up. tree / decs go up and watch miracle on dvd and then next day visit santa and his reindeer at local petting farm. any sooner and they'd be too much excitement and not enough sleeping.

Lubyloo · 24/11/2008 22:46

The weekend before Christmas so could be a week before Christmas Day or just a couple of days depending on how it falls.

swanriver · 24/11/2008 22:56

German husband used to insist on buying tree on CHRISTMAS EVE and decorating it on same day. I have now forced him to do at least five days before Christmas. It was too much to do at last moment. On the other hand, we put up all the other decorations at beginning of Advent, except for nativity scene.

The Saturday a fortnight before Christmas, so this year it will be the 13th.

It's become a tradion, go over to my mum's first thing and decorate hers, then go over to PIL and put theirs up and finally spend the evening decorating our house with a take away (and maniac cat trying to kill the tree ).

DontCallMeBaby · 24/11/2008 23:08

I want it to go up the weekend of the 6/7th at the earliest. DH wants it next weekend. Grr. I really don't want it up in November, nor do I want it up before our wedding anniversary (on the 4th), but he says if it's not up next weekend it's a week more without it! Like it's not up for long enough anyway. [scrooge]

Tommy · 24/11/2008 23:09

the Sunday before Christmas unless Christmas is on a Sunday in which case it would be the day before or maybe the Friday if they're lucky.

Hate decorations going up too early.

Advent calendars usually start on 1st December so not sure how you can start eating the chocs early?

GrimmaTheNome · 24/11/2008 23:11

First W/E of Dec.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 24/11/2008 23:13

Normally about 15th, but this year 6/7th Dec as DH is then away for 10 days. Also this is the first year the DSs are getting into it, and we're going away on 27th, so tree doesn't have to last into Jan.

Iloveautumn · 25/11/2008 10:27

Hum - Sunday just gone cos it snowed all weekend and it seemed like a festive thing to do!!!

Usually not til the beginning of December tho!

nappyaddict · 25/11/2008 10:28

xmas eve

Marne · 25/11/2008 10:31

6TH/7TH i think, usualy put them up on the 1st but can't be bothered this year.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 25/11/2008 10:32

this year it will be Saturday 13th as that is the day the tree is being delivered.
it is usually the 2nd weekend in December.

I get other Christmas things started before that though.
