Hello!
I want to buy a few classic Christmas films to watch over the festive period and wondered if anyone has any personal faves?

I will definitely be getting scrooge (alistair Sim) and I have Polar Express but any other magical Christmas movie recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!
Barbsx

The Grinch - fab, fab film.

It's a Wonderful Life.

The Slipper and the Rose (not at all a Christmas film but somehow makes me think Christmas).

HeadFairy · 01/11/2008 22:45

Holiday Inn, an absolute classic. Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, White Christmas, the works

ceciliaaherne · 01/11/2008 22:54

Scrooged
Love Actually

tootiredtothink · 01/11/2008 23:05

Oh yes, love Love Actually. And Bridget Jones.

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 01/11/2008 23:28

Santa Claus (not to be confused with Santa Clause). Stars Dudley Moore as an elf that goes bad, but then turns good again.

And Love Actually as well. Nothing like a bit of Colin Firth and Andrew Lincoln with Christmas music

mrsmaidamess · 01/11/2008 23:31

Only a shortie but we love The Snowman. Makes me weep every year.

QuintessentialGunpowderPlot · 02/11/2008 10:29

I actually love Home Alone. The first one. We bought Polar Express after seing it at the Imac, but of course it is not 3d, it is still a great film.

The Snowman
It's A Wonderful Life
My 2 boys love Elf

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/11/2008 11:48

tmmj - we found Polar Express boring too.

DCs adore both the Raymond Briggs shorts, though it does lead to them shouting 'bloomin' Christmas', which isn't everyones idea of festive charm.

Muppet Christmas Carol and The Nightmare Before Christmas are fantastic.

TwoToTango · 02/11/2008 12:33

Jack Frost
The Grinch

barbareebaa · 02/11/2008 13:47

ooh thank you!

I had forgotten about The Snowman! I haven't seen the muppet Christmas Carol so will look for that too!
Me and DH absolutely love Polar Express - think it's the music and some of the animation is stunning (although some of it's a bit 'odd'- the children sometimes look a bit scary!!)

This will be our first year as a family (baby due in just over a week) and while our families are in Yorkshire we are staying in LOndon (sob) so am trying to make this Christmas feel as Christmassy as poss!

Has anyone seen 'Meet me in St Louis' with Judy Garland? Is that christmassy?

cyteen · 02/11/2008 13:59

Bad Santa

seriously, it's essential Christmas viewing.

BeauticianNotMagician · 02/11/2008 15:46

Just the other day i bought a dvd twin pack of the snowman and father christmas from hmv for 4.99.We will watch them both on christmas eve before the boys go to bed.

LolaLadybird · 03/11/2008 23:16

The Holiday, Love Actually & Bridget Jones are all on my girly Xmas film list and I can't wait. DS was born at the end of last November and v colicky so screamed his way through every December evening - so v much looking forward to making up for last year's lost Xmassy evenings.

And I agree with MildMannered completely - Albert Finney Scrooge is Christmas!

p1umpudding · 03/11/2008 23:20

Home Alone for me!
