Traditions - Those of you who buy your kids pj's for christmas eve...

Who do they think bring them?

I want to start this tradition with ds (2.8). I have always got pj's for christmas and for the last 2 christmas's have bought some for ds but it never occured to me to wrap them to wear on christmas eve. I need a good story to tell him

I just tell them they are from me and Daddy to make them look nice because Father Christmas is coming. Although I slip them, wrapped, into their beds/underwear drawer while they are in the bath. Then "go get your pjs".... But seen as that is all that is from Daddy and me it is fair enough.

We buy PJs for Christmas Eve. We do not go along with the FC myth. It is us, the parents, that buy them, along wiht all the other Christmas presentes.

We can easily justify new PJs with renewal.

What we do is this. I have everything done for the 23rd. On the 24th we go for a walk in the woods and collect holly etc, and make a xmas floral decorations and then have a big meal about 2 then we bake and decorate biscuits and mince pies, go to an early evening mass(priest always says hi even though we only go once a year) and after that dh and I give them the PJ's as our present to them, bath PJ's and biscuit and hot drink in front of the TV, bed. We told our kids that we brought them PJ's and santa brings the rest.

I do the new PJs thing, but it's never occurred to me it needed a 'cover story'!

They are just produced on Xmas Eve along with the mince pie & Scotch for FC, carrot for Rudolf...

The dc have usually already been given presents by CM a few days before, which they open with her, & they usually get presents from FIL when we go to visit somewhere between Boxing Day & NYE...so they just assume that Xmas = several days of new stuff.

lol at cover story

I've seen a few posts on here about elves or Jack Frost bringing them and just thought it'd be nice to have a story.

Santa doesn't bring all ds' presents just some of them. That's what my parents did with me so i could thank my relatives for their gifts.

We put them on their beds so they find them at bedtime, act all surprised and say that Santa must have brought them. My children were 8 and 4 last year and believed this,no question. Primark do some lovely PJs very cheaply.

Oh no, I meant santa brings everything WE buy. The rest comes from our family, as I am a great believer in thankyou cards.

Mine are older and know that mum is on the lookout for red PJs - will get them early this tear as we;re going to Lapland. Everyone has to wear red. Dds 1 and 2 got theirs today - they are still excited.

me and dh

got the John Lewis ones for them last year, they were lovely. Had penguins and snowmen on but were that lovely soft cotton.

ended up treating myself to some rather nice PJs too so winners all round

Last year "someone" rang the doorbell while DD (7) was getting out of the bath leaving the package on the doorstep for us to discover. DH swears he saw a little elf skipping away.

She's having major doubts about Santa this year so I'm glad I did something like that even if it was a bit naff

Ous dcs know that some of their presents come from FC and that some are from us, or Granny and grandpa, aunts etc, so giving pjs on Xmas eve has never been a problem.

santa brings some stuff, parents give the rest.

i dunno why I'm stickin my oar in though - I don't do xmas eve pjs we have a book for Yule, but that is from mummy because it is me who does Yule.

We stage a phonecall from FC to tell us to get the kids there special present out (i.e the pj's)
Then we tell them that fc wants them to wear them so he knows where to deliver the rest of the pressies to. they are 2 and 4 so they think its magical. a

i wrap them and it's the package they get to open on Xmas Eve.

We do this on Christmas Eve(thought it was just us!).

They are just a treat from mum and dad and dcs put them on for photo under the tree.

Ours are delivered into their drawers (unwrapped) by elves who are doing the final Naughty or Nice checks (i.e you have to be extra specially well behaved on xmas eve as the elves are watching) One year I did little notes with them along the lines of make sure you get to sleep nice and early etc they love it!
