Parents of girls - Baby Annabel or Baby Born? Which one is best?

I reckon Baby Born could probably take Baby Annabel in a fight, but other than that I really don't know which one to go for; both seem to have an inexhaustable supply of shite accessories, and whilst I'm mildly disturbed by Annabel's bed/car/table/cigar humidor all being sheep-shaped, she looks like the more interesting doll (all together now - Baby Annabel turns her head, oh wow! She knows her mummy now....). Baby Borns just look like your bog standard plastic dolly - apart from the swimming one, which just looks like some nightmarish freaky thang!

I know DD probably won't care which one she gets for Crimbo but thought I might canvass opinion here first before I take the plunge and buy one.

Ta muchly

DD had Baby Annabel, but if you want a more realistic Chou Chou baby (Also by Zapf) is weighted like a new born baby. DD had the bog standard one that didn't do anything but I am not sure if they still do it.

We have both, which is probably not the answer you want to hear! Baby Annabel better for cuddling, but Baby Born comes into her own in the bath. Ours are older models though so they don't do a lot, I believe the newer ones are practically real babies.

Raindog · 03/10/2008 08:37

Baby Born is in the sale at the Entertainer shop so that's what I'm going for!

2beornot2be · 03/10/2008 09:43

Baby Annabel I got my god daughter one 3 years ago and she still plays with it :-)

Lilyloo · 03/10/2008 10:38

DD got baby born that swims last year but wants baby annabell this year so i have got her one with a car seat of ebay and a box of accessories from argos for £30

goingfor3 · 03/10/2008 10:40

My girs have both and definatley prefer baby born. She can get wet which is a huge bonus.

nailpolish · 03/10/2008 10:47

annabel definitely

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 10:48

they all end up being dragged naked around the floor

go for the cheapest

Marina · 03/10/2008 10:49

Baby Born here too!
We have Big Baby Naomi and Small Baby Colin and they are much loved (and usually nekkid as capp says)

Tamarto · 03/10/2008 10:52

Annabel is heavy, Baby Born is not.

Annabel is noisy, Baby Born is not.

My daughter has both, i prefer Baby Born, however she has no idea BB can poop, nor does she know that Annabel can do things as i have never put batteries in her

Cappuccino · 03/10/2008 11:12

I have spent many hours of my life holding Annabel upside down and shaking her in an attempt to make her cry 'real tears' when her head is completely chockful of water fed to her from her little pink bottle

it is not a good example to a child of how to handle a newborn

Sazisi · 03/10/2008 11:15

Get her a Baby Stella!!! Much cuter fgs

Khara · 03/10/2008 11:38

We have a baby born because dd wanted a boy baby and they do a boy one. (Although nearly all the blimmin' accessories come in pink only, and dd hates pink - she has brothers!)

Like Tamarto's dd, mine has no idea that you can feed the thing or that it poos & wees because cleaning it afterwards seemed far too much like hard work & I'm sure it would have gone mouldy very quickly - yuk!

MiaWallace · 03/10/2008 17:29

Baby born is a pain to make cry and when you give her a bottle water gets everywhere.

I would recommend baby Millie. She laughs, cries, burps and falls asleep. Plus she comes with a free wooden cradle which is really pretty and good quality.

MiaWallace · 03/10/2008 17:31

Forgot to add she sucks on a bottle/dummy too

Fennel · 03/10/2008 17:32

Noisy dolls with batteries are a pain.
Especially after you leave them out in the rain and the "chuckle" function goes onto autopilot.

Baby born is the most popular here. She wees and poos. what more could a small child want? And you can leave her out in the rain.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 03/10/2008 17:39

Baby Born half price at Toys r Us

Marne · 03/10/2008 17:43

dd had a baby annabelle and only played with it on x-mas day (soon got fed up with it)

We have bought her a baby born (half price at the entertainer online) for this x-mas as they do alot more than baby annabelle. I think its the poo thing that makes baby born so much better than annabelle

clayre · 03/10/2008 17:44

my dd has both and loads of accerories i dont think she has a favourite, she dos love playing with them thou!

Cappuccino you squeeze her arm to make her cry real tears!

Buckets · 03/10/2008 17:46

Baby Born - silent and bathable
Baby Annabel - you'll be slitting your wrists come Boxing Day

notsoteenagemum · 03/10/2008 17:48

Baby Annabel is a pita, we got one when expecting DS thinking DD could have a real baby, HA! She hated the crying and then thought we could turn DS off when he cried too!(if only!!)
Think BA has prob advanced since we had ours fourish years ago but think if everything makes a noise /flashes/ does something dc lose a bit of imagination. DD def preferred her 'quiet' dolls.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 03/10/2008 17:51

I remember when DD3 was a newborn, coming across DD2's Baby Annabel sprawled face down at the bottom of the stairs one evening and being absolutely cataleptic with shock for a minute. Until commonsense reasserted itself and I realised I had just left DD3 in her moses basket in the living room.

Get Baby Born, it's the ugliest, freakiest head known to man but doesn't speak- a big bonus , plus the kids like the poo and wee function as others have already mentioned.
Baby Annabelle looks better but the noise will drive you to the gin bottle.
Corolle dolls are prettier but more expensive and the accessories are also nicer if you want something a bit more upmarket.

sandyballs · 05/10/2008 11:57

DD was given Baby Annabell for xmas when she was 3. She has played with it every single day since, and slept with it every night. She will be 8 in March.

lunavix · 05/10/2008 12:36

Baby Born has a freakishly large forehead, which is why mine isn't having it

I'm quite smitten with this one actually www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/truhome/trutoys/trutoysdolls/trutoysdollsbaby/035319
